Success was surely sweet…but the price was high. Mortgaged future for riches today. Promises broken without regard for integrity. Fools made of believers without a second thought.
In the beginning…all wanted to believe. That a proud ego had been humbled by evident limitations. That a new voice would be trusted and followed. That old men recognized the changing times…and realized that earning prosperity meant embracing that change.
Ultimately…it all proved to be only a mirage. Nothing more than a schoolchild’s lie. A devil’s bargain.
For those who continue to reign, nothing will be easier for them to implement than a fond return to a meager past. A reactionary time warp back to a familiar place.
Most assuredly they believe that you will continue to follow. That their duplicity will be ignored. That time will exonerate and validate their actions.
The question is…are they right? Will you continue to be led by them?

I will always be a Hog fan, and will always root for the Hogs to win – regardless of who the coach at Arkansas is. As Sunshine knows, I've pretty much been an HDN backer from the day he arrived.
But, now? I'm ready for him to go, and I'm ready for Frank to go. The continuing soap opera that has been played out on the hill especially since the Nebraska near hire, has worn me down to the point that I would be glad if HDN would leave if that meant we could have a solid coach with an air of professionalism about him.
Nutt's failure to learn from each of the previous public relations nightmare has finally proven to me that he is not person for this job. I think he will still be coach for a couple or three more years, but I think it will be similar to Hatfield losing to Texas in Little Rock in a game where we were clearly the better team, and that we will point to Malzahn's leaving as the beginning of the end.
Some may say that his LSU overture was the beginning of the end. I will admit that most of the anti-Nutt crowd before Malzahn will agree with that sentiment. But, for those of us who still backed Nutt after LSU, but are no longer his backers after Malzahn…we will point to Malzahn's departure as the beginning of the end.
Rumors are hot and heavy that David Lee is coming back to Arkansas as OC. I like David Lee and was actually hoping that he would come back last year as OC and hire Malzahn as WR coach. But, I have to admit, when Malzahn was hired as OC, he represented my best hope for the future of the Hogs. We clearly saw the impact he made on the offense, but for whatever reason, Nutt has chosen to let the coach(es? is Alex Wood far behind?) responsible for the offensive juggernaut to leave.
The Hogs may surprise me and finish as good as they did this past year…but I don't see it. I still hope the Hogs win, and that they do well in recruiting; but I'm ready for HDN to go. It's just been too much of a circus.
Are you talking about Frank and HDN or GWB and Dick?
I feel pretty much the same Taxhog. I'll always root for the hogs, but "soap Opra on the hill" has got to go! My worst fear is recruiting in the future. It will surely be effected to some degree. Frank Broyles retiring, would be a good start to a new begining.
How can the OC for a team that just won ten games (with some of those wins coming against the toughest conference in the nation), pre-ranked in the top 20 for 2007, coaches the heisman winner for 2007, has another heisman candidate in FJ, and coaches his boys from high school take a demotion to coach at Tulsa?
I'll tell you how…plain and simple….the oppressive "climate" on the hill created by the coaching and administrative staff. Spin that however you want…but to me that "climate" has killed my spirit and made it diffcult to bear being a proud razorback fan. I can only imagine how Gus would describe the "climate" on the hill!
Up until yesterday, I had never called for HDN's head and always supported him, but now I will never have that same enthusiasm for the football program until HDN and JFB is gone. HDN and JFB you have lost all my support from now on! Please leave NOW!
I never believed the rumors…Gus offering his resignation last spring…continually calling him names of disrespect (come on…how juvenile?!!)…HDN telling Gus he would never have a chance to "run his offense as long as I am head coach!". With Gus leaving abruptly and taking a demoted position in a lessor conference…all those incidents that the UofA told me were just rumors were in fact TRUE. I just feel disgusted, cheated, taken advantage of, and completely disrespected!
I will always be a hog fan, but will never again be a fan of HDN or JFB!
To all in the hog universe of denial: Please be advised that Frank Boyles and the entire Nutt clan of butt kissers are actually aliens from another galaxy that feed off the negative vibes of honest hard working fans. Not until we chase these creatures back to their mother ship will we be free of a low life scum bag stupid beyond words fake football program. From now on when attending a Razorback football game please for the love of god wear tin foil around your head so the Aliens cannot feed off the bad vibes of sitting thru a entire half in which these hideous creatures run the same damn running play over and over again. We must be cautious and be very attentive to Gus at Tulsa. If he starts out calling the same running play over and over we will know he has been infected and the aliens are trying to infect other football programs. THEY ARE WATCHING YOU.
While I don't agree with their actions, since when do Frank Broyles, Houston Nutt, and the other PTB lead the fans? Frank leads the Athletic Department and Nutt leads the football team. While much of these events may be political, these men were not elected to political office by the fans.
Brent – Sorry to be confusing. However, by supporting this program both financially and as fans, I think that's the way we "cast our vote."
The question I was trying to ask is…do you support the leadership of this program and department any longer? My trust that those in power are still worthy of those positions has been shaken.
I say that by mid-summer the biggest part of the complaining will be over and by the time they hit the field next year you'll hardly hear a peep. Thats with the exception of the true darkside-Nutt haters.
Well said Tipster. If we were in the British Parliament, I would have to ask for a "Vote of No Confidence" to be taken on both the head coach and atheletic director. Sad state we find ourselves in now.

Who is going to finally stand up and say "The Emporer has no clothes!"
Apparently, Dr. Phil's show was just interrupted with news that Mitch Mustain is transferring…that is all I know…heard from a friend, who heard from a friend whose wife was watching Dr. Phil.
I agree with Tipster. I have never seen a coach apparently so mad at his own program. It would seem that Nutt is a condition–not a name.
It's amazing to me that all of you are so heavily sided on the Mustain train. The kid contributed very little. His stats are nearly identical to Casey Dick's. There was really never enough time to implement this so-called Springdale plan. And there is no guarantee that this plan will work, anyway. I, for one, have my doubts.
HDN called the shots this year. He won 10 games. Without much of a difference than last year. The inmates may be running the asylum, but I don't believe that is HDN's fault. He's a good guy.
But enough is enough. These complaints and grievances are absurd. We're not real sure what Malzahn brought to the program, anyway. In most respects, the team was identical to last year's team, and probably would have had a great season without the Springdale people. A 10-win season in the SEC isn't really because a few new people were on board that really had little contributions.
Let them go. If they don't want to be Razorbacks, then we don't want them. Right?
I agree with you KYLE 100 %.
I will tell you all it is the green-eyed monster called jealosy on Coach Nutt's back
that is in the form of Frank Broyles.
He ran off Lou and Ken Hatfield. The man cannot keep his nose out of the way.
It seems to me he wants his legacy to be the only coach to take the hogs to a national title till the day he dies.
Sad as it is that was 1964.Leave Houston alone and he will be fine.We do not need another Jack Crowe (Citadel 10 ARK 7) to lead us.
Remeber it is just a game and I for one am just happy to able to wake up and call the hogs on game day.
That is what it is all about.Iam 43 now and I still get chills every time I hear it.
let all the traitors be gone ,wish them well and when we kick thier tails, let us celebrate that we ARE ARKANSAS!!!
Kenyon Bell.
Well, I for one will not be going to any Razorback football games for quite a while. I will vote with my money.
And if you think Houston Nutt can bring us any farther than he has you have no basis for your belief. Let's see, in 2005 we had Casey Dick, Robert Johnson, Felix Jones, Darren McFadden, and Marcus Monk. Under Houston that year we had an awful year. Roll forward to 2006, huh, same players and we go on to win, become nationally ranked, and go to a decent bowl game. Gus was the difference even without being able to call his own plays. I have often said, "If you have the talented players and you still can't win, the problem is with the coaching staff." This is true of Baseball, Basketball, Football, and every other sport. I believe that any player who is anyone should leave this program so they will be able to fully realize their potential. Obviously, they will not get good coaching here or learn ethical behavior from them. I am ashamed of our football program now and cannot wait till Broyles and Nutt are gone.
Does anyone have any ideas how we can get this done? The time is now!
DDW, there is no question, it takes talent to win. And yes, the 5 players you mentioned all have lots of talent. The only problem with this is Johnson and Monk were the only ones that weren't freshmen, and they were, still, only sophemores at that time.(2005) You also contradict your own words. If Malzahn, truly, did not call the plays, how do you acknowledge that he was the difference? Are you suggesting that D-Mac needs to move on, so that he may resume his quest for the Hiesman, under a different coach? Maybe, we should just tell all 3,4, and 5 star recruits to stay away, until we have run off these two guys, huh? Maybe, we should all just be communists, until George Bush is out of office. This would make just as much since, wouldn't it?
