E-Mail To Mustain Reported By Media

Over two months after they were originally leaked onto the Internet, an e-mail containing derogatory comments sent to Mitch Mustain and a related message sent to columnist Wally Hall are finally reported on by the Democrat-Gazette this morning.

Reporter Chris Givens provides excerpts of the contents of the e-mails sent by a Little Rock woman, Teresa Prewett, as well as the reaction by University officials to them.

This re-enforces the fact that HDN cares only about himself. The reason the Nutts did not like Gus, was because his name was becoming bigger than Houstons. Gus “the savior of the program” was being used by Nutt to get the Springdale boys, that is now more obvious than ever. Don’t even try to say Houston didn’t know about his wife and the emails. He was probably the first one she showed. I can see the two of them getting a good laugh out of it. If not, then why did it take him so long to respond? If he’s protecting his players, then why wait till after the bowl game to do anything about it? He wasn’t preparing for a game each week. I’ll tell you why; to hope it just gets swept under the rug. He was and is guilty. Now that the media sees through his fasaud, they will crucify him any chance they get.

    Spin this one

  • Michael Stansbury

I am done- I have been a nut hugger this whole time- this is the straw that breaks the camels back- I will send mt e-mail that Houston Nutt should be fired today-

    This is ridiculous-

Like shooting fish in a barrel.

I have seen the light. I have moved on. This has officially gone from a tragedy to a comedy, moving quickly toward farse. Until further notice all of my future comments will refer to Houston Nutt as ‘The Teenage Drama Queen’ and J. Frank Broyles as ‘The Queen Mother.”

    2TH

Remember, King Saul was afraid of little boy David and tried to kill him.

  • 2TourHog

    SES,

Too bad HDN didn’t learn from Saul.

  • d.black

Wow, sounds like the whole coaching staff and wives were involved in this. WHAT DID THIS KID DO TO DESERVE THIS.Until someone on the hill wiyh enough power or balls to rid this program of AD.,and all coaches it only going to get worse.Grown people trying to destroy one kid. They only want your money and as long as the fans continue to support them it will continue.

  • david

I agree with the e-mail . I hope all you mommas boy loving fans will go with him when he transfers. That will be in the best interest of the university and the state of Arkansas.

  • 2tourhog

The tides have turned David. If you truly are a fan, and care about the program and the University, then you will want the school to rid itsself of the cancer known as Houston Nutt. If you support him now, after seeing what he, his wife, and his brother are capable of, then you are not at all a true HOG fan. GO HOGS!!!

  • 2tourhog

Anyone seen Gonzo, Bluff, Dill, Defense……Where are all the HDN supporters now that the facts are out?

  • OwassoHog

Same place Houston and Frank are… HIDING!

  • Hogsdill

Present… 2tour. It’s not Nutt’s fault that the chick sends out ignorant e-mails. White and Nutt took care of it when asked.

  • Bluffhawg

It’s amazing how you bunch with springdale blinders on can blame HDN for an e:mail that someone else sent. Heck, I guess he’s now responsible for the actions of the entire state. Damned if you do, Damned if you don’t comes to mind.

I can also say that if I were in his shoes and received the abuse that he’s taken over the last few years, my wife would have done more than chuckle about a e:mail and forward it. I can promise she would have made personal visit and certainly would not have asked my approval first. That’s the reality of what happened!!! 2tour there’s your response!!

  • Mike in Magnolia

How dishearting to know that this whole thing happened. I had been a Coach Nutt supporter until real news information was printed. How unfortunate that this has happened to the University. This now published fact has vendigated all of those who were calling for the firing of Coach Nutt. I now have to agree that this is bigger than x’s and o’s and poor play calling this was an assault on a 18 year old kid and condoned by our coach’s wife and possibly by our coach. We have taken sports way to far when we begin to distroy an 18 year olds integrity with the support of our coaching staff.

I’m sorry Coach but it is NOW time for you to step aside.

Best wishes to you and your new team

  • OwassoHog

Right! And you don’t believe that Houston knew of the e-mail before January either! Just keep repeating those words while you are drinking your cool-aid… “I believe in Houston, I believe in Houston, I believe in Houston”!

You probably think that it was appropriate for Diana to forward this on with comments about it being funny. Oh, I’m sorry… that’s not Houston’s fault either (and it isn’t but she should know better). Would it matter if Danny had done so? Do you think this is any less important?

As for White and Nutt taking care of it, I disagree. There are just some things that can’t be undone (in fact, a lot really can’t be). That’s like saying that I caused you to be in an accident where you lose your legs and the police tell me not to cause you an accident where you lose your legs again!

It has already been stated that this e-mail was a part of the decision to leave the program. How can you honestly say that White and Nutt took care of this? I don’t believe that her apology was sincere – do you? I’m sure that she regretted it… regretted that it was made public but not the content. Therefore, she has accomplished what she wanted and life just goes on (at least for her).

  • 2tourhog

    Dill,

I knew you would say something like that. Did you even read the article? Nutt said he didn’t know about the email until 3 weeeks ago (that would be the first week in FEB). However Mr. White said he made Houston and Frank aware when he became aware which was when Beck forwarded the email to him in early January. You’re boy is a liar.

“This one got a lot of attention. We tried to handle it ourselves, but this one was taken all the way to the chancellor, all the way to the board. Even without the chancellor getting a call I was going to do something, like I would normally do when I get a couple of these things that go to my players. ”

    This proves prior knowledge.

If you think he didn’t know about an email sent to his brother and wife slamming a player then your seriously confused. You think Diana thought it was funny enough to send to others, but not to show her husband? [edit]

Last, if it’s Houston’s policy to

“I’ll always try to protect my players. I don’t like things being said to my players.”

Then why, when Danny was copied on this email in December, did he not do something about this? Does Danny not subscribe to Houston’s claim of protecting his players?

He saw the email, he did nothing about it until he was forced by White. Houston is not going to let anyone get more headlined than him. Not a coach, and definitly not a player. He will get his pink slip [edit].

  • http://www.razorbloggers.net/ TipsterHog

Yes…I deleted and edited some comments. You guys know I only do that when it gets out of hand.

    Let’s keep it civil, folks.

  • BlindHog

Just a thought folks, but when you get to the point that you are hiring coaches you don’t want and using scholarships on players that you don’t want only to abuse them and run them off it really doesn’t matter who knew what when. It’s already gone way too far. If he had to kiss up to Frank, the queen mother, and be a good little boy and do what the Queen mother said just to keep a job he wasn’t otherwise good enough to keep then he and we were already in trouble. This was a disaster waiting to happen. The teenage drama queen and the queen mother finally out smarted themselves. I’m very sorry personally. Frank should have gone years ago when he could have left the hero, on his own terms. Houston should have left for Nebraska when he had the chance. He knew. He made enough of an agreement to get a plane on the runway and then chickened out. Not Smart. They love the running football in Nebraska.

  • Bluffhawg

Just think, If the springdale brats had not been forced on us we could have called those good ole running plays, passed every now and then, won at least 10 games (probably more without all the whining), improved our recruiting and been able to enjoy our success. Instead we have to listen to all the crying and whining coming out of NW Arkansas. Day after day after day after day!!!!!

  • Butch Davis

And Bluff can’t seem to get enough of the whining he so claims to detest. Bluff is like magnet to steel with this site. He can’t stay away from all the “whining”.

  • Razorbilly

Bluff, who did the forcing? Whether we think HDN should be run out of town or not, any hog fan can see the problem goes beyond HDN. It’s past time to focus on the top. If something doesn’t happen soon, there will be nothing left but rubble in hog land.

  • hegyeg

    I love it.

  • ReasonRules

Who cares about the e-mail. We got outrecruited by South Carolina and North Carolina.

  • FortSmithHogFan

Hooray Teresa Prewett. Your email was right on point. Tell the over inflated egomaniac “Beck” Campbell to take her spoiled brat and go to another school. Football is a team sport. Mitch needs to join gymnastics or an individual sport so his mom can sit in the bleachers and root for only him, as she has done his whole life. THERE IS NO “I” IN TEAM BECK.

Here’s some comment on Wally Hall’s recent performance as sports editor of the state’s daily newspaper.

  • Justin

    This is dumb.

  • David Bradley

I cannot believe that anyone could talk about and treat these KIDS the way that they have been treated. The Arkansas coaching staff recruited them. If we all remember, several had decided to go elsewhere before being conned by the Right Reverend. Promises were made and broken. Lies were told. Things were attempted to be covered up. Why does U of A put up with all of this. We are a mediocre program at best. We used to have it better. I don’t care if we run every play, as long as we win. Hatfield did it and did it the right way. Broyles wanted to control the program then and forced Hatfield out. The guy won 10 games almost every year. Nutt is soooooo proud of his 10 wins this past year. We all used to expect that every year. With all of this said, we all need to get a life. That includes myself. There are much more important things in life than our precious Razorback football. Go spend some quality time with your own children and stay off the backs of those fortunate enough to play for the Hogs. I know I’m going to. When Hatfield takes over for Broyles we will all see the light.

  • The Professor

Boy were you diehard Nutt and Broyles fans set up by Waly Hall and the Demozette. Wally writes a negative column and receives innumerable e-mails telling him that he should go where the sun doesn’t shine. Then, whammo, the Demozette releases a “blue dress” (an e-mail) that proves (no rumors here) that the Nutt was truly deliberately trying to run off Mustain and Malzahn by psychological harassment. Gotcha. Based on some of the responses here, some previously Nutt-loyal fans were appalled by the behavior of the coaches and other parties involved. Others are diehard nutts and use the presumption that Coach had no idea about the e-mail even though his wife seemed to have sent it to everybody else. For those who believe this, I have a choice piece of residential property in Pine Bluff that I would like to show you. It seems that Ms. Prewitt, of e-maiil fame, was actng as an agent and supporter of HDN. Secondary individuals can carry out a mission and if caught, the head man can act as if he knew nothing about it, as some might claim for Richard Nixon. The coach stands above the fray and has his underlings do the dirty work.

What is most interesting to me was the Wally Hall time frame with the e-mail. This evidence was in the Demozette hands a long time ago, so why have they waited unitl now to releaase it? The Demozette had an editorial today claimng that it was just good journalistic practice, you know making sure that the sources were correct. Right! I have another piece of property in Pine Bluff… The editorial had all of the lingusitic inkprints of Kane Webb. Wally stunned me in a previous column where he said that Webb was one of the most talented editorialists in America (?) Talk about scratcing each other’s backs. To understand all of this media intrique, one must know that one of the duties of a sports editor like Hall is to be a homer. When the homer begins to criticise the program then you know that the coaches are on thin ice with the powers that be (whoever they are). I always paid attention to ole’ Orville Henry’s columns when he began to go negative, which was infrequently. It was like the grim reaper delivering a message of impending doom. These sports writers have a close relationship with the athletic programs and I guarantee that they do not report everything they know unless it looks as if it will become common knowledge. The timing of all of this looks suspiciously like Nutt and Broyles have lost favor and Hall and Chancellor White are the waterboys on this mission to create change. However, it would not be good for the football program to force Nutt to quit or be fired at this time, so it looks as if Broyles is going to be the fall guy.

One last thing about Mustain’s leaving. If you believe Mustain’s mother that Ms. Prewitt’s e-mail was the reason her son left the program then I have, in Pine Bluff,…. People n the limelight recieve numerous messages. You get desensitized to criticism unless it’s overwhelming. The e-mail was just proof for Mustain’s mother that her son wasn’t being treated decently and gave a reason to go see someone about it. One e-mail does not a decison make, but it’ makes a good excuse.

But forget the turmoil,. It’s all about winning. If Nutt wins next year he’s safe, if not then bye, bye. I remember when Richardson’s players were out of control in Fayetteville and nothing was done because Nolan was wnining. At other schools it’s unusual that wnning coaches are terminated because of rule breaking or bad behavior Coker goes at Miami not because he’s runnng a poorly disciplined program but because the powers that be don’t think that he was going to be able bring Miami back. Lessons were learned when Woody Hayes and Mike Price were terminated because of poor role modeling (and both Ohio State and Alabama football went downhill afterwards). The bottom line here, and you nuttaholics pay attention now, is that the fans were very unhappy with the team’s last three games, especially with Wisconsin, a team that they did everything to, but beat. It was ironic that the Badgers beat Arkansas with two end zone passes and a 52 yard field goal exposing the Hog’s own worst weaknesses. If Arkansas had won that bowl game then the Mustain-Malzahn-Williams affair would be a mild tempest, with most fans saying “who needs you?” . Those terminal games left doubt in many fans minds’ that Nutt could win big (Utah State. SE Mo., etc excepted) with the obvious talent available. But don’t leave your stadium seat and go home, It’s not the 4th quarter and there is probably still more action to come..

  • Carolina Hog

In the interest of reality? If we made a move now, where do you find a coach to come on board in March. Mike Shula? Mike Price?

  • David Bradley

    Carolina Hog,

So just let Nutt continue to run our program into the ground? It is time for change. We need a breathe of fresh air now and not later. Cut the ties now before any more damage can be done. When hopefully Hatfield takes over for Broyles, things should start to get better.

  • BlindHog

Ken is a sweet man but, he doesn’t seem like AD material. Unless you have a coach available to replace Nutt you had better let him have one more year. Surely he will be motivated to perform at the highest level after this. I can’t believe we screwed up the whole Butch Davis deal.

  • Carolina Hog

David, perhaps there is confusion about my tone. That wasn’t sarcasm, that was a question. We get so focused on problems and I’m just wondering what would make things better. Running a coach off is only half the solution, so let’s talk about the other half or is it more fun to just complain? At this point I think I’d focus on taking care of the Basketball issue and like it or not I’d give Nutt a year to pull it together. If you run off coaches to your two most high profile sports and your AD retires in a 1 month period, how long does it take to get the program back in shape?

  • The Professor

    To Carolina Hog.

Your suggestion that Mike shula or Mike Price would come aboard was taken with tongue in cheek. Shula had even less of an understanding of the kicking game than Nutt. Nutt can’t be run off at this point in time, that’s a given. But a new AD next year with no ties to HDN, would be emotionally better suited to fire HDN if such was required. Broyles resignation would begin the process of a different set of judgmental criteria by a new AD.

Regarding this fascination with Hatfield, Didn’t anybody notice that Hatfield was terminated at Rice after a 1-11 season. His successor, with a passing game, went 7-4. Rice did lose their bowl game (their first bowl in recent memory) but it was primarily because their QB was out with an injury. Hatfield is an even bigger dinosaur than Nutt with the running game. He still thinks that the wishbone is the main key to winning. I know that the AD is not the football coach, but then there is Broyles… Interestingly, Nutt has beaten Texas more often than Hatfield, But I think that Texas does not have the same cache of hate in Arkansas that it once had. I don’t think that Ken’s resume, in itself, is that strong a recomendation for the AD job. If your’re going to get an ex-coach then I I would prefer Lou Holz. (He is yuounger than Broyles). Now there is a coach with an imagination. Regarding Nutt’s raise: If Nutt is given an extension to 2012, then it may become the Richardson debacle deja vue. I expect the Board to put in some sort of buy out clause to protect the Universiy. I don’t think that a raise was inappropriate, but an excessive extension for a 10-4 season? Of course, if Nutt wins out next year this will all be moot.

  • Bluffhawg

I love it when I check this site and see that some people are saying that are program is running in the ground with a 10 win season in out belt. Seems to me the ones that are trying to run our program in the ground are the ones whining and never satisfied, even when we are successful. And yes “Butch Davis” (easy to see loyalty), I do check in every now and then to see if your still complaining, and of course you are!!

  • David Bradley

    Bluffhawg

What about our glorious 10-win season is there to be proud of? Honestly, who did we beat? Our schedule was conducive to success. The tough games were all losses. You will not find a bigger Razorback fan than myself. I live and breathe the Hogs. But, I am not satisfied with what we have. Neither should you. We, as the best fans on the planet, deserve better. This all includes our basketball program too. Do not get lost in mediocrity as most Arkansans are. Our 10-win season was done with smoke and mirrors. Let’s demand that our program be brought back to respectibility.
