Good luck, Stan. Class guy. Just didn't get the expected results quickly enough.
Wow. I can't say that I'm stunned, but more perplexed. Two 20-win seasons back-to-back. Two straight NCAA tournament appearances. Why did they wait so long? Hopefully someone goo-oo-ood is lined up.
So HDN gets two straight losing season and a terrible bowl record, and he stays. Stan improves the team every year, and he's fired.
I'm very disappointed with this decision. And what people don't get is that the player morale is going to be low as a result of this decision. Some may leave, some may stay. Those that stay will take a while to learn the new system.
Disappointed Hog!
A sweet, sweet man. I hope we were all wrong about him and he goes on to greatness. On the other hand, it was time to move on and let Stan get a fresh start.
I may not have heard it right from a friend of mine, but he told me that Stan is now the head coach at South Florida. Does anyone know if this is true? Also, I hope now that Stan has been let go, we make a hard push for Billie Gillespie. I think he makes 1.4 Mil. a year at A&M, and they will probably offer him more to stay. Kentucky, I believe, is wasting their time waiting on Billie Donavon. Florida doesn't mind spending money, and he is happy where he's at. If Kentucky is ready to spend the dough on a big name coach, they better go after Bill Self while the gettin is good. All of this being said, this could work out well for the Hogs, if Kentucky screws around long enough. There is no telling what is going on behind the sceens anyway. I have also heard that Gillespie could be named the Hogs new head coach as soon as Wedesday, but I'm not sure how reliable this information is.
Fire SH, Keep HDN, does that really make sense? Anyone?
HighAltitudeHog,
I agree. Right on. Fire a coach who is in the rebuilding process and making progress. In reality, Broyles and White didn't want Heath to stay on permanently. They needed someone to fill in the gap after Nolan so that they could get a coach that is truly in their back pocket. Don't be surprised if Arkansas gets hammered in the national press for lying about retaining a coach.
Folks need to voice your concerns directly to White. Looks like the clowns are running the entire university!
This is exactly why I am a dieing hog fan. There is something rotten up on the Hill and it ain't the eggs. How can a coach 2-6 or whatever the bowl record is go 2 straight loseing season and stay but the other coach inprove each year after starting with nothing go to the real big dance not the garbage bowls and be fired. This makes it really difficult to remain a fan but we do as we must. Well I suspected a long time ago the reason behind Heaths hiring this just puts a period on it.
Bye! Bye! Stan….. Bring on a GREAT!!!!!! COACH!!!! Mr. Frank Broyles….. Lets put the "P" back into "THE PROGRAM" Lets the "H" back into "HOG" Lets put the "R" back into "RAZORBACK" And for "GODS SAKE" Lets put the "Sooie" back into "Wooooooooo!!!! Pig!!!!! Sooooie!!!!!"
Sounds like Nolan is talking the same points others are:

Players are gonna start considering transferring now…Thanks a lot Broyles…loser…you could have at least waited until after next season so Heath could finish out with the class he started with…but I see how shady things are up there….Nutt you have a huge target on your back now…The wrong coach was fired today…Good luck wherever you go Heath….Thank You
I believe all of you guys make valid points, as far as personal feelings about Stan. Everybody likes him, and wants the best for him and his family, but the reality of it is, if you say keeping Stan validates keeping Houston, then you are escentially saying that two wrongs make's it right. I would love for Stan Heath to be able to stay, but unfortunately, in the real business world, you have to take your shots when they are availiable. The athletics department's budgeting will always have to come in mind first. Like it or not, this has a lot to do with the hiring and firing of coaches. I'm not sure what it looked like, exactly, when Houston completed his 2nd 4-7 season in a row, but considering we were still in the process of paying off Nolan, and the fact that Frank Broyles felt like he owed Houston a couple of more years after the fiasco with his personal friend's trucking co., which basically screwd up recruiting for a couple of years, it was not the ideal time, overall, to fire Houston. With the up and down year we had with Stan and his players, and the combination of coaches becoming availiable, who have proven themselves, it was time to hire a high profile coach, to turn this program around. Nolan doesn't have his hand in the cookie jar anymore.
A lack of consistency got Stan Heath fired and nothing else. You guys would really by crying down the road when Heath knew he was on his way out next year and recruited a team that could not win in division II. We would be back where we were three years ago. Stan Heath was a nice guy (to a fault) and it cost him his job. I wish him luck wherever he goes and look forward to a better (hopefully) and tougher coach.
As for the Houston Nutt comments made above, it is hard to call the Capital One Bowl a garbage bowl. Give it a rest and have some respect for the departure of Mr Heath.
Yes we made it to one New Years Day Bowl in 8yrs or whatever it is and we lost just like the rest of the garbage bowls and the facts still remain he has not got it done and on top of that he had 2 loseing season so there should be some discussion as to why he is here and Stan gone. Lets just hope next year with a team full of seniors and some seasoned guards we don't give to much credit to the new coach for the season we are going to have.
Dieinghog, No one know's what kind of team we'll have next year. We're trying to find a proven coach, to regroup the talent that Stan has done an excellent job of recruiting. The next coach that comes in, will have all the pieces in place to sucseed with the influence he'll bring in.
We have the talent in place already to really make a run next year with coach Heath in place or with him gone depending on who stays.
1st off the team….Sean McCurdy…let's see who's next
McCurdy was already gone. Stan had already given him his release. As far as the rest of this team leaving or staying, it would be premature to say any of them are leaving, until the new head coach addresses the team.
