Weekly Predictions – Troy

Another season…another year of weekly predictions.  It’s always a fun thing for us during game week to throw out our guesses and then see what you think.

Last time we did this, the RazorBloggers were split over whether to pick Wisconsin or the Hogs.  In the end, it was HogBlogger who chose correctly…not that it made him or any other Razorback fan feel good after a tough loss.

But a new season means new hope.  And this year, it also means a new reward for the commenter who submits the closest pick.  We’ve partnered up with our friends at Carpenter Clothing Co. to create the very first run of RazorBloggers Network t-shirts.  (Whoa…t-shirts…we feel big-time now.)  Here are the contest rules:

  1. The winning entry must pick the winning team and then be the closest to the combined total score of both teams.
  2. Any ties will be broken by a random drawing.
  3. The weekly winner will be contacted via e-mail for a shipping address and t-shirt size.  (So make sure to fill out the e-mail address box in the comment form!)

So here we go:

Troy TrojansWalking on Sunshine: The Hogs are certainly ready to hit someone else.  With Monk out, the passing game struggles to get off the ground.  Troy QB Omar Haugabook keeps it respectable.  Arkansas 42, Troy 19.

HogBaller: I think this game will be closer than most expect.  Troy brings an experienced QB and WRs to town.  The Razorbacks will undoubtedly counter with a ground attack led by #5…and that should be enough.  Afterwards, the coaching staff will be thankful for the early bye week, as there will be plenty to work on before travelling to Tuscaloosa.  “The WildHog is unveiled” – 24, “Finally a Trojan team we can beat” – 14.

HogBlogger: These Trojans are much more to the Hogs liking than the ones from previous years.  The starters hit the showers early.  Arkansas 45, Troy 14.

TipsterHog: Sunshine’s preview yesterday helped me gain more respect for our opponent this week.  In the end, however, stopping the Hogs’ running game will be completely out of the realm of possibilities for the Trojans.  Arkansas 38, Troy 10.

Leave a comment with your pick and feel free to add your own take like “Trojan horse breaks down on the back stretch” or “All McFadden’s toes are 100% and Felix won’t fumble three times in a game for the rest of his life.  Hogs roll.”

  1. OwassoHog says:

    Hogs 55

    Trojans 24

  2. Carolina Hog says:

I had 38-10 on the last thread so I'll stick with it in spite of duplication of Tipster's pick

  3. CharlieHog says:

    34-17 Pigz

  4. MikeD says:

Razorbacks 51 (Tejada will get his points)

    Trojans 24

Felix has more yards than D-Mac this game. The expectations are high for him. He'll be back on track just in time for Bama, and goes off! GO HOGS!!!

Just for fun… someone giving Felix some BIG props.

    Rushing to the front

  5. Hawgfan100 says:

My pick is the Hogs 34-17 also (only I posted it yesterday in the Troy Preview post, #4. ;^)

  6. WCB says:

    Hogs 37

    Trojans 20

  7. Chris H says:

It will be close for two quarters, which will lead to grumbling. But we will end up running away with it.

    Hogs 42

    Troy 13

  8. WCB says:

    Hogs 37

    Trojans 20

*sorry for the double-post – I forgot to add my email.

  9. McBeast says:

    Hogs.

    Combined Score — 46

  10. MichHog says:

    Hogs 48

    Trojans 17

    total: 65

Let's see how salty the defense is going to be.

  11. HogBloggerJr says:

You herd it hear first, this won't be a blow out. Troy brings experience, a great game planning coach and the underdog mentality. I think just like last year playing Florida State the Trojans will look like they are about to shock the world, for 3 quarters. Inside sources tell me we will run first, run second, run third, and if that fails we will continue running. Look for the passing game to be as one sided as ESPN's man crush on the Big 10 (which ironically has 11 teams making me lose sleep at night wondering which one isn't really "Big"). However that's neither here nor there:

    Hogs 31

    Trojans 17

  12. Carolina Hog says:

Damn, I forgot the email address. Go Hogs!

  13. Jayhawg says:

    Hogs 31

    Trojans 13

  14. Boyer in the Distric says:

    Hogs: 41

    Troy: 17

  15. BACON BITS says:

    ARKANSAS 41

    TROY 21

The hogs defense starts of a little shaky but we get kick return for a touchdown, Tejada gets us two field goals, and we eat up the clock with our powerful running game…………GO HOGS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. Carrmaduke says:

This game will be close all the way…through the 1st quarter. The WR's and QB prove serviceable and the RB's prove it will be a long year for opposing run defenses. As for our D, under 75 rushing yds, but we get burned too much in the passing game, but it's bend don't break…

    Hogs 44

    trojans 10

    WPS! GHG!

  17. Michael Stansbury says:

    Here it is-

    Hogs 17

    Troy 3

Troy is up 3 nothing after the half- than the Hogs come roaring back-

    Size xl

  18. HogNEdmond says:

The first game of the season against a Sun Belt foe … Does Houston take the oppotunity to work on a passing game much in need of some confidence or show-off an already-proven running game? Just kidding… too easy. Hogs run for a bunch but have to rely on Tejada several times early.

    Hogs 30.

    Lesser Trojans 14.

  19. Mike in Magnolia says:

    "China recalls Trojens"

    Arkansas 48

    Troy 17

Troy may be good, but the chip on their shoulder is not near as big as the Razorbacks who still can't get respect.

Plus #5 read the Fox Sports Hiesman pick and DMAC saw were is was not even in one of their writters top 5. Yea #5 is ticked so watch out.

  20. Mike in Magnolia says:

    oooooooops I forgot 48 hogs 17 troy

    I also misspelled Trojan

  21. Wood says:

    Arkansas 28

    Troy 20

Troy picks on Hogs 3rd and 4th DBs the whole game. Last minute drive fails by the Trojans when Chris Wade drops back in coverage and picks off a pass (the only turnover Arkansas forces) to end the game

  22. Mike in Magnolia says:

Dang I'm glad I'm not as pessimistic as Mr. Wood

  23. Carolina Hog says:

    Mike,

If Troy holds us scoreless at the half I will streak Dixon on a pogo stick.

  24. Mike in Magnolia says:

Carolina, At least wear a thong

  25. 2TourHog says:

I remember some time back, HDN let it slip that his goal is to score 24pts per game, well I think he gets the 24.

    Hogs 24

    Troy 28

    Bye Houston.

  26. JRM says:

    Arkansas 38

    Troy 17

Worse than the score seems, McFadden takes zero second half snaps.

  27. Dieing Hog says:

This is a statement game for the hogs and HDN will have his guys fired up especially with all of the off season drama 38-9 hogs

  28. Carrmaduke says:

Sounds more like wishful thinking on your part 2TourHog. I sure hope you just stay home. Tulsa plays tonight…I'm sure they would love to have more fans.

  29. 2TourHog says:

I think you are going to be very surprised by the outcome on Saturday Carma.

  30. Carrmaduke says:

You are correct…if we win by less than 3 TD's, I'll be surprised.

There is no way you can truly believe we will lose this game…it is obvious that you just hope we do so your ultimate fantasy of Nutt being fired comes true.

  31. Defense Wins Champio says:

I do not see a blow out. After all it is Troy that UA is playing. Their opening season history against top teams speaks for itself. That says it all. Arkansas should score 24 to 17 for Troy. Gentlemen if the defensive backs are not sharp the score could be higher for both. However, I am looking for a good game for Casey and his teammates, and a UA win.

  32. Waldron Hog says:

    Hogs 31

    Troy 27

The end is scary as we hold them on downs inside a minute on our end of the field.

    We learn 2 things.

We have a QB – WR problem.

Our secondary has a learning curve.

  33. GonzoHog says:

I'll stick with my original post prediction. Hogs 50-27. Our defense might have a few screws to tighten up, concidering all of the new guys. I think Troy will make a game of it in the first half with a couple of big plays by the QB, but a good togue-lashing by Coach Herring at the half, and a couple of adjustments, the defense will stiffin up. Our offense, as a whole, will be unstoppable for Troy to stop. I here thier defense should be much better this year with 8 returning starters, but it won't make any difference. If the best D's in the SEC couldn't shut down D-Mac and co. last year, what difference is Troy going to make?

  34. 10KHog says:

We need a spreadsheet… it's hard to figure out what scores are available?

  35. oldskooljt says:

    Ark 35

    Troy 17

  36. WAHog says:

Tejada gets the first four FGs of his Heisman campaign and the running backs add four TDs. We win 40-10.

  37. gohogs728 says:

HogBloggerJr- I hope you are better at planning parties than predicting scores because you missed this one… I will give you credit on the Big 10 stuff though. Anyway, Troy won't pose a threat past the first quarter. Our guys are fired up and we will have a couple young receivers have good games plus DMAC and Felix will obviously roll.

    Hogs-45

    Troy-10

  38. Anonymous says:

    35 – 24 Hogs

Troy returns one int for TD.

  39. Hi on the... says:

    42 – 24

Troy scores early, Hogs 1team D gives up 10 pts.

Troy returns one int for TD. Then score late in fourth qtr.

  40. Razorbilly says:

Hogs 24 – Troy Zippo. I'm tired of hearing how great their offense is. Our defense out scores them with a pick for a touchdown.

  41. HankHog says:

The HDN era begins to really crumble after this game. With Gus' offense gaining over 500 yards in his Tulsa debut the arguments are only going to get louder of what might have been.

    Ark: 24

    Troy: 21

  42. HJHog says:

    Hogs 42

    Troy 13

When can I pick up my shirt, Tipster?

  43. Razoree says:

Casey explodes to everyone's suprise (Hey, we can all dream, right?)

    Hogs – 38

    Troy – 10

  44. 10KHog says:

    (edit)

    Razorpiggies – 45

    T-Squared -24

This should not be a close game despite all the coach-speak and media hyping up their offense so that just in case it is close they can go: "See, I told you they were good".

  45. Pigor Mortis says:

    Wildhogs – 38

    Roadkill – 14

    #5 – 145 yards and 2 TD's

  46. NielsBoar says:

    Hogs – 24

    Troy – 17

Troy is no rent-a-win. Hogs start slow and look very beatable, but manage to escape this game with a W. Hogs will be much improved on both sides of the ball by the time the Alabama game gets here.

  47. Buaman22 says:
