Effort + Execution = Excellence. And it helps when you hit 10 of 15 3-pointers, too.
In their 68-52 win over LSU on Saturday, the Razorback basketball team seemingly rediscovered the formula for success. Here’s hoping that they won’t soon forget it…but they probably will.
Historically, this team has been the proverbial “yo-yo.” They play “out of their mind good” one game…then “tank it emotionless” the next in defeat. As fans, we need to always remember this. And while we may not accept it or understand it, we must continue to remind ourselves that, yes, the yo-yo will indeed rise back up eventually.
Much of the credit for the success against LSU goes to Sonny Weems. Sonny was aggressive and accurate early — scoring 19 of his 21 points in the first half — while staking the Hogs to a big lead. Patrick Beverley’s double-double (14 points and a career high 15 rebounds) was equally impressive.
These next three games at home for the Hogs are the most important of the season. If they hold any hopes of winning the Western Division, then let’s not kid ourselves: they need to get all three. At the halfway point, that would put their record at 6-2, with 5 of the last 8 games on the road.
If they give the kind effort that they did on Saturday night, all else will fall into place. If not, then those 1:30 a.m. practices will become regular reminders…reminders that shouldn’t be necessary with team full of seniors.
So for those of you who were dangling a foot off of the bandwagon last week…hang in there. This bunch will challenge your resolve. We’ll see you at Bud Walton on Wednesday night when Mississippi State comes to town.

It's not gonna help the cause any that Thomas has been benched for the next (and possibly more) game(s)…
Just one more reason not to be motivated about this team's chances to turn the season around. Why is it that the Seniors seem to have the most problems? So much for Sr. leadership. I'm not too excited about this win over LSU anyway. If fans want to look at that win as monumental, because it's been so long since we beat them on the road, then go ahead, but it took a team that's supposed to be good, lead by 6 seniors, to beat the lousiest team LSU has put on the court in years. O-V-E-R-R-A-T-E-D!!!
that was one of the poorest displays of basketball on a collegiate level i have ever had the misfortune to witness. pathetic. if we were up against any team that night besides lsu, we loose by 20. i support coach and can't wait until we have some playmakers.
A spot-on post and follow-up comments as well. This is a very frustrating team to support. I think we will be much better when all these seniors are gone. Not one of them shows half the resolve to win that Corliss did.
I pretty much agree with what everyone else has said. That said, I am withholding my final judgment on this team until after this week's games against MS State and Florida. If they play well against those two teams then we might have some hope for the rest of the season. What really irritated me about the Georgia game was that they didn't put any effort into it. I sort of expected a loss to Georgia, but damn they could have at least acted like they WANTED to win.
That said, I love Coach Pelphrey and I feel like once he gets his own recruits then the program might turn around. I guess these seniors are used to Stan Heath's lack of drive, and I just don't know if Pelphrey, even though he tries hard, can rid the seniors of the problem of spectacular underachieving that was taught to them over the last three years.
They better get ready to run when Florida come's to town. Anytime those guys get an inside tipped ball or an outside defensive rebound that thay can catch and go, it's off to the races, and 9 times out of 10 they'll get some points out of it.
I wouldn't say I was off the bandwagon exactly. I will enjoy the wins that display some version of college basketball skill and effort, both of them. This team occasionally forgets they are in a game and actually plays like they practiced.
There is no way to judge Pelphry with this team. You could actually make the case that we were too harsh with Stan's game day performance and too generous with our praise of his recruiting.
Someone asked the question the other day about basketball players versus athletes. Weems and Beverly are basketball players, stars even. I still don't know why they won't throw the ball to Townes but there must be some reason.
I salute you for your dedication and faith in this group of Razorbacks. They need it and I know it will be rewarded with a wonderful run through the NIT. Expect big wins over Miss St and Florida before they tank. A mini run at the end will net them 3rd in the West but the first round loss in the SEC tourney will leave them on the bubble for the NCAA. They just don't care.
Can you really imagine one of Eddie or Nolan's teams not playing all out in ANY conference game?
They knew from the minute they stepped on campus what was expected if they wanted to play for the Razorbacks. They knew they had coaches who were in charge and that if they didn't play as coached, they would sit. They wanted to succeed.
