Where we don’t actually interview John Pelphrey, but we make it sound like we do.
RBN: Coach Pelphrey, tell us about this year’s recruiting class?
John Pelphrey: “Anthony Borden has great, great physical size. [...] He’s well-proportioned. He can run and he can catch the ball. We hope he will give us some depth up front. I think in a year or so, he will be a major force for us.
“Jemal Farmer is a big, athletic wing. We needed that with the loss of Patrick (Beverley). I think he was the leading scorer in the Jayhawk Conference last year. He has a 40-inch vertical leap, and we expect him to fill some needs at the small forward spot.
“Marshawn Powell will help fill the power forward spot for us, which is an area where we definitely need help. I’m very, very excited about Marshawn. [...] I think he’s a consensus top 50 player. [...] He gives us a guy at the power forward spot that’s versatile from the perimeter. He can handle it, he can pass it and he can shoot it. He has a good understanding of how to play.
“We are very excited to have Julysses Nobles as a Razorback and in our program. [...] He’s a really good player and a tough kid. He’s committed to playing both offense and defense, and he’s committed to being a student-athlete. [...] He is a point guard from a great high school program, and helped lead Callaway to the overall state championship this past year. It was good for us to recruit and sign someone from Mississippi.
“Glenn Bryant is a 6-7 athlete who was one of the highest-rated high school players left unsigned. [...] He spent the last two years at arguably the best high school program in the country and played for legendary Coach Steve Smith. He is an uncanny shot blocker. He’s a tremendous athlete and we believe his best basketball is ahead of him.
“We are very excited to add Delvon Johnson to our team. [...] He will give us good front court depth. He’s a good player who we also believe has his best basketball ahead of him. He is a young man we will enjoy having around and representing the state of Arkansas. Not only is he willing to work on the court, he’s an outstanding student as well. He will help Arkansas.”

Arkansas Basketball has officially collapsed. I hate it. It is certainly not John's fault. This goes on Frank and White's plate. But, there is no light at the end of this tunnel. We might as well go ahead and give John 5 or 6 years and see how far he gets. The next guy will have a truly clean slate.
There is the hope of that big Arkansas high school class out there if there is enough program and are enough scholarships when the time comes. But, you never know.
That phrase, "he has his best basketball ahead of him" occurs a bit too often. They all should have their best basketball ahead of them. It sounds a bit like they haven't learned how to play yet.
Come on blindhog, things are not as bad as they seem. We have an upgrade on athletes at the least. We have guys coming in that can truly play above the rim, now if they have an basketball IQ remains to be seen. I think Pelphrey did a masterful job of bringing in the juco's. All reports state that we have some 4star possibly 5 star talent in our own back yard coming in the next few years. So i think trading sophmores to be for juniors to be was smart even though i thought andre and brandon had upside. Granted he will need a little time to get "his" players in but he's getting those long wing men coming and i'm exiting.
We'll see. This last bunch was way over-rated. It is a big mistake to raise expectations above where they belong. By dumping half of the last class he has essentially wasted (spent) a year and is right back where he started. Time will tell if that is a good move. As you say, the main think is having room for that class of Arkansas kids. If he does that and brings them in all he will have to do is win the SEC West.
I think the bottom line here is, no one really wants to wait as long as it's going to take to rebuild the program.
Last season shouldn't have really made anyone just through in the towel.
That was Pelphrey's first real season, and no one should've even thought an OU or a Texas win was concievable at best.
Let's just give the man a couple of more years. Shouldn't he at least get that, since we did gave Stan Heath 5?
