ArkansasRazorbacks.com: Auburn crushed by Hog offense

Another opening offensive barrage by the Arkansas Razorbacks left the 17th-ranked Auburn stunned and with the Tigers’ first loss of the season.

The combination of almost 300 yards from sophomore quarterback Ryan Mallett and a 100-yard day from senior tailback Michael Smith drove Arkansas to its fourth 40-point day and a 44-23 victory.

    For the Auburn fans who came on our blogs to say:

    We'd lose because we couldn't run. Why? We didn't have any SEC-caliber RBs. Oops!

    We'd lose because we couldn't stop Auburn's offense, especially their rush game. Why? We didn't have an SEC-caliber defense or DC. Oops!

    And finally, to Coach Tubs: well, at least you got the margin of victory correct…just not the correct team. Oops!

    Let this be a lesson to y'all where shootin' your mouth off is concerned. ;^)

    Hawgfan 100,

    I agree.

    It sounds like the Tiger/War Eagle faithful aren't any smarter than the Aggie bandwagon.

    As far as Tubby is concerned, I believe he stated his comments porposely so it would fire up the Hog D. I think he still has ill feelings about the way Auburn let him go after last season. Just an opinion.

    The Hogs are getting better and better every week and THAT'S A FACT!

    GO HOGS GO, BABY!!!!!

  3. Hawgfan100 says:

    You're probably right about Tubby; he always was a crafty one.

    The Hogs are getting better and better every week. And I was very glad to see that two of our traditional bugabears–not being able to respond when a team really socks us in the mouth and not being able to deal with losing our best players during the game–were handled extremely well by what is essentially still a young team. Finally, once and for all, let's leave Robinson alone. He's done a super job with the defense, especially the last two weeks (shutting down the #1 and #2 rated offenses in the country at those times, yes?)

    I'm very proud of our team today, very proud indeed.

    • OwassoHog says:

      Hawgfan100, I'm with you on the Robinson portion. While the defensive side is continuing to improve with each game, it seems to have slow/stopped the inappropriate comments. Yes, we still let a few too long runs yesterday… seems to be the pursuit angle vs. basic tackling :-( !

      As for a good… I've got to say that not getting some of those comments from HogBaller has to close to the tops of this week's list. ;-)

    "…seems to be the pursuit angle vs. basic tackling!"

    Yeah, I was stunned watching Leon in for Ford during Auburn's great Third Quarter run. He looked like he was on drugs; I mean, getting totally spun around and left in the dust on a sweep?! I couldn't believe it (still don't…;^)

    But, I have forgiven much worse in the past so buck up Anthony, keep working hard, you'll get there and we'll be rooting for you when you do.

  5. T-towner says:

    Bizzaro-game. AU gets 2/3 of their offense in the third quarter and look pitiful on offense and defense the rest of the time. Comparison scores are the ultimate waste of time, so here I go wasting time:

    Georgia 52-Arkansas 41;

    Auburn 26-Tennessee 22;

    Arkansas 44-Auburn 23;

    Tennessee 45-Georgia 19

  6. Hawgfan100 says:

    Shaping up to be a bit of a bizarro-season which may actually work to the Hogs advantage. ;^)

  7. GonzoHog says:

    I think the Florida game will result in a loss, but on the flip side of it, I believe we can still make significant improvements.

    The Gators are a very good team folks, so in my opinion, if the Hogs can keep the score within 10 to 14 points playing in Gainsville, it'll show great effort on the Hogs part.

    We're still very young and the Gators are still much more talented than we are, but we're getting there.

    We really need to at least make this game competitive, so that we can keep gaining confidence before heading down to Oxford for that showdown with Ole Nutty's team.

  8. GolfHog says:

    Someone who knows run the stats for me; when was the last time a Gus team scored 3 in a half?

    I agree. Get off of Willy's ass for awhile. This team will get better every week.

    Somebody was having a coming out party. It was us. Chizik should have had his team ready.

    Now we have all the momentum we can have going into the swamp. Can we win? Once in ten maybe? Bobby and Willy will need a game plan. Ole Miss might be the better place to put our hope.

  9. Carolina Hog says:

    Of all the comments I've read from Auburn players, coaches, and fans I've have not seen one positive comment about Arkansas. It's all about them giving us the game. Can we please play them again tomorrow so we can kick their asses again. We were missing star players and our QB played average and we still worked them over. We have now beaten them 3 out of the last 4 meetings. If we're lower tier, what does that make you, Auburn?

    As for Florida. On some board someone said that they doubted they'd overlook us after this week. Bull crap! I think that's underestimating Florida's arrogance. They only respect USC, Texas, Oklahoma, and LSU. That's it. I saw a Fla. blogger today predicting we'd end up with 6 wins. Now, Florida may be able to bring their B game and still beat us, but if they come in to that game the way Auburn did, that might leave the same way as well. Go Hogs!

    p.s. Elton Ford may be our Bob Sanders. He seems to make a big difference in the overall performance of our D.

    p.s.s We need some injury updates. That's my worry right now.

    • pLANEolG8RB8 says:

      Calm down there Carolina Hog….weeeeeee gatas love us some suweet pig feets, pickled hog knuckle, and some smokin' boston butt. Weeeeee sho aint takin dem der hogs fo granted. In fact dem gatas probly gonna play they bestest game this here weekend and i know we gonna get yall's best….WE GET EVERYBODY'S BEST. Good Luck and God Bless Razorback Nation. We'll see you in the SWAMP

    I've been a huge critic of the defense, but I have nothing to complain about anymore. The defense was lights out against a great offensive team. Our D line played at another level, the linebackers were solid and the secondary played great.

    What's exciting is that we are now battle tested. We have taken some shots and have fought back. I was really impressed by the open field tackling; it seems we've gone back to basics, which was desparately needed.

    I do think Florida will overlook us. I think it's gonna be a close one.

  11. Hawgfan100 says:

    Injury updates: yes, please.

  12. GonzoHog says:

    I know we're not to the predictions yet, but I'm gonna make an early prediction anyway.

    I think we lose a very competitive game in Gainsville.

    Gators-20, Hogs-14.
