OK, the football team now has a better record than the basketball team. Question: Will the football team score more than 47 points in their next game? Will the Runnin' (Scared) Razorbacks score more than 47 on Saturday?

This team is so pathetic I can't even take them seriously any more. It doesn't even bother me when they lose. Every time I hear Pelphrey speak I feel a little disgusted. I'm starting to pull for the Hogs's opponents.

  2. OKOFCOURSE says:

Pelphrey's not the problem it's Long; he's calling the shots. Everything's going to Hell in a handbasket and he's now trying to build a practice facility that we don't want or need just so he can use it to make money renting it out. If you want to blame anyone else then blame B. Alan Sugg, the Wizzard behind the curtain, because he's the puppeteer pulling the strings. I hope everyone is happy that "Daddy Frank" is gone and had no say in his replacement.

    • opinionatedblowhard says:

Daddy Frank did not particularly do much to help basketball when he fired Nolan.

    • Dustin says:

We don't need a practice facilty? Really? When Ekpe Udoh was deciding where to transfer it came down to Arkansas or Baylor. He was asked why he chose Baylor and one of the reasons he gave was "better facilities."

  3. soupdhog says:

Living out of state, this was my first chance to see the Hogs this year. It's a tough call to blame Pelphrey 100% for what's going on with the program. On one hand, he is accountable for the selection of players that have bolted for whatever reason, but on the other hand, is it a little bit of bad luck that Fortson lacks some discipline and Sanchez and Washington are hurt? If you have Sanchez and a healthy Washington, it's a different ball game. When Fortson comes back it's a totally different team. BTW, does anyone know what he did to justify missing all of 2009?

It is painfully obvious Pelphrey is not fielding an entire team and has no offensive threat other than Clarke. He cannot play the style of ball it takes to beat a team like Baylor – use your speed, press, etc. He has no depth to pull from since he only has 7 players.

I think we have to give Pelphrey another year to try to right the ship and field a team. It can't get any worse, right?

  4. GolfHog says:

    Right.

I have no doubt that the AD and Pres have a hand in the pie. When it gets this bad Pel has no credibility. He is easier to push around. On the other hand, its been a long time since I saw anything on the floor that reminded me of actual coaching. He seems lost. Time for the BOT to step in an give the program a new direction.

    • opinionatedblowhard says:

You ever have that boss that keeps giving you useless information to try and help in a problem. I think that is how the players feel about Pel.

  5. gas hawgs says:

I don't normally comment on blogs about anything, but I'm not sure what to make of these hogs and it's killing me.

Everything seems to have significantly regressed from the time that Pel inherited the program. It was painful to watch last night as the hogs only ran three or four set plays all night. I keep thinking what if, what if we could have convinced Cal to come to Ark? I have watched Kentucky a little and what stands out to me – is not only the quality of players that team is fielding but the amount of coaching that is always occurring. During timeouts our team just seemed to stare off into space as the coach talked to them about the next possession (or not). There's a tremendous difference in the quality of coaching our players are receiving and, at this point, I'm just not sure what they are learning in practice. I think back to the Nolan years and Mike was always on the sidelines coaching – we are missing that and the product on the floor shows it.

I also heard Jimmy Dykes comment about us missing out on a player because we have no practice facility. Teams that need practice facilities are those ones that don't have on campus arena's.

I wish I lived on the Hill so I could see them in person but I'm pretty sure it would be just as difficult to watch at Bud as it is on TV.

    • Swineherd says:

No practice facility? Well that explains a lot!

      • opinionatedblowhard says:

Wonder if Nolan would have ever said, I can't recruit because I don't have a practice facility. He did say it was hard to recruit to the area because of the size of the area. But Nolan's practice facility was running their ass off till they decided it would be easier to listen.

  6. OKOFCOURSE says:

A practice facility is needed so the theater Class can do plays there and all the other school activities can do things with it and has nothing to do with athletics. That's what you get when you let the President of the University chose our new AD. If you think John White was horrible then just wait because there has been no change per se. Oh, by the way John White still works for the U of A and probably @ the same salary only now w/o the same responsibilities or work load because he did exactly what the "puppeteer" demanded. Oh, did anyone else think it was funny that Jeff Long didn't have enough money to do certain things (aka – Give Petrino's brother a raise, renovate the shower area in the football facilities, or to buy out Phelphrey contract (althought I want him to stay at least another year) but he did find a million dollars to give to the University. WHAT A MAN!!!!!

  7. OKOFCOURSE says:

    opinionatedblowhard,

I heard that Daddy Frank had an agreement with Bill Self to leave Ill. and come here but that was canned by John White because he wanted a black coach (Stan Heath) to help in the upcoming legal trouble with Nolan.

    • opionatedblowhard says:

Wonder if Frank was a little worried that maybe some of the lawsuit had merrit and didn't fight White very hard?????

  8. Swineherd says:

I have said all along that the problem goes deep into the administration, and you guys have named the culprits, dead to rights. I agree with GolfHog that at this point the Board of Trustees are probably the only ones who can save the situation.

I think there is a deeper problem, but that subject is taboo, even on this site. I am not optimistic that the Powers That Be have the will or the wisdom to fix it. They may not even see it. I would bet there are powerful and influential people in Arkansas who are even more disgusted than we are, and they will demand change and improvement, soon. They will not put up with losing (money).

  9. OKOFCOURSE says:

You might be right opinionated about that but I can't say for sure. I do believe the solution is to let the people making the decisions MAKE THE DECISIONS and be held responsible. I know this sounds simple and it is, but when you have someone secretly making decisions (pulling the strings so to speak) then there's a problem and I think that's the case here. B. Allen Sugg making decisions and being insolated from the repercussions of these bad decisions by his own official appointed butt-boys is bad news because you can fire John While and Jeff Long and so on and so on but the Cancer still remains.

    • Swineherd says:

You're probably right about Sugg. He's been here too long not to have tons of influence, and you never hear what he thinks about anything. And for that matter we don't know what the BOT thinks about any of this.
