Bowl Predictions — East Carolina

Congratulations to HogNEdmond for the closest prediction last time of 31-24.  His quote: “As good as the offense has been at home, it has struggled equally as bad on the road.  I have a bad feeling.”

Ah yes, HogNEdmond…we remember getting that “bad feeling” during overtime.  A tough loss, for sure…but one that’s now (mostly) behind us.  Hopefully the excitement you felt when you received your winning RBN t-shirt helped you get over the guilt of picking LSU to get it.  Ha…just kidding!  Nice job, man.

As for the RazorBloggers mini-prediction contest, yours truly is attempting to blow it.  After having a nearly insurmountable 2.5 game lead with three to play, Sunshine has won the last two contests to narrow the gap to 1/2 game.  I’m starting to get that “bad feeling” again.

Since it’s been a few weeks, if anyone needs a quick refresher on how we judge the winner of our little contest, you can check the rules here.  So here we go:

East Carolina PiratesWalking on Sunshine: The Hogs should be able to run the ball, setting up the play-action passing game, while the defense struggles to stop the balanced Pirates.  Eddie Money gets ‘em “Shakin’” in the second half and “Just like Ronnie (Wingo) sang…I say, just like Ronnie sang…Hogs finish strong.”  Arkansas 35, East Carolina 24.

HogBaller: The Liberty Bowl and Memphis provide Hog fans with a bevy of “B’s”: Beale, Blues, Blowout and BBQ.  The Hog offense proves too much and puts this one out of reach early.  “Will Mallett Turn Pro” 48, “But I Don’t Wanna Be A Pirate” 19.

HogBlogger: Next year starts now.  Arkansas 42, East Carolina 24.

TipsterHog: With 50,000+ Razorback fans expected to attend on Saturday, the 2010 Liberty Bowl should feel like a home game.  And, as HogNEdmond said, this offense performs much better at home.  Arkansas 42, East Carolina 27.

Leave a comment with your name, e-mail address and pick.  And feel free to add your own take like “Skip Holtz finds time to interview for two more jobs at halftime” or “A Pirate’s life for us.  Hogs roll.”

After a sluggish first quarter, our Hogs roll. 42-17 HOGS!

The Hogs are too pumped and the Defense wants to make a statement!!!!!

I believe the Pirates will pressure Mallett early and it will take at least a quarter for the o-line to settle in. After that, the Hogs will start clicking and the defense will do their job.

No contest… Hogs win 51-23. Mallet will find lots of receivers but we will score with a balance of running/throwing TDs. We’ll need one more prediction… who decides to enter (and stay) in the draft!

  • BLP

OK OwassoHog. Here is your one more……

Hogs win by 10 (who knows if it will be a high or low scoring game…. Petrino’s first bowl game with the Hogs and all).

Who goes in the draft and who stays: Damian Williams will go high in the draft and Mitch Mustain will remain a 3rd string bench warmer at USC. Haha.

I hope Mallett stays for another year, but my gut feeling is that we have about a 50/50 chance of keeping him for another year.

Skip could use this one on his resume’. You know dad has helped out.

He won’t get it. Arkansas 45-21

Sporting Eye-Patches – the Pirates only see half the field – while the Hogs run wild!

I am a ECU man but a Hogg first born and raised in Little Rock. I dreaded the day that we would play ECU and have told everyone that as long as the pirates do not rattle mallet we will win big. I think our defense will make us proud and our o-line will do their job. Ark45 ECU19. They have a better FG kicker than we do.

It’s supposed to be cold and wet and the lay off won’t help our passing game. Hogs still win rather easily.

    Hogs – 31

    Pirates? – 17

Hogs defense will make a statement – that it is good outside of the SEC.

I pray that if Mallet is throwing high that the Crown of the Field is not mentioned as an excuse.

I also pray that Ryan stops having imaginary converstations with ESPN Commentators. Maybe I pray that for all of us.

I also pray that R Crimm lights somebody up to make my day special. A bonus would be for J Nelson to do the same.

Due to suspensions and injuries (Tank Wright has injured his ankle in addition to DD according to Chris Low…:^( our D struggles even more than usual. Mallett and the offense will shine though and that should be enough (fingers crossed), though I will note it was NOT enough for Houston.

This feels like a game the old coach would have let the players have fun and the final score didn’t matter. I think the new coach wants a bowl win. I think he gets it with a lot of offense and a couple timely stops.
