  1. Great win for the Hogs! WPS!

Rebounding! Assisting! Free-throw shooting! Five different leaders in all major statistical categories! Sounds like a great overall game for the Hogs.

This is a great win for the hogs. SC is a tough team. Probably the most balanced game we've played.

I am very impressed with Powell, both as a player and a person, and especially with his confidence and compusure. In interviews he speaks confidently without seeming cocky or arrogant, and he sounds mature beyond his years. I hope he stays on the straight-and-narrow: if he does, his future looks bright indeed. His basketball talent is on open display and is beyond dispute.

Powell is very impressive. Last night he was the heart and soul in providing leadership. Everyone played well except Washington. Unfortunately, his foul trouble not only comes from bad habits but also a reputation for getting into foul trouble this year.

This team is headed places if Fortson doesn't get outcoached. It could be fun to watch.

    • T-towner says:

????? Fortson gets outcoached? What does that mean?

      • GolfHog says:

It will be interesting to see how much longer Pelphry can go without saying something hopeful or positive. If they get to the tournament with a one seed he may have to actually set a goal or call for some recognition for his troops.

He may have very good reason to fear expectations. They look like they are coming together to me. But, they are young. He knows better than I.

    • Swineomite says:

How in the world does a player get outcoached? Maybe that is an expression of doubt in Pelphrey's aptitude as a coach. Or maybe it's just a puzzling string of words that somehow fell together. I've had my doubts about Pelphrey, especially early on this season, but he seems to have things going pretty well right now. I don't see much to fuss about in regard to the team or the coach. I'm just enjoying the ride at this point. GO HOGS!!

      • Swineherd says:

Uh, dunno how a player gets outcoached unless. . . this could be an oblique reference to my somewhat tongue-in-cheek remark calling Fortson a player-coach following his 35-point outburst, a game in which I said Fortson not only played but coached the team to a win. But I do believe that when a player assumes a leadership role he also takes some coaching responsibilities upon himself, becoming a "floor general," if you will. It's a delicate role for a player: how to help teammates without seeming to condescend to them.

World is truly ending in 2012 if we outrebounded somebody.

  7. Swineomite says:

You know, these guys are fun to watch again for the first time in a long while. Teams at the very end of the Nolan era were semi-exciting to watch. The Stan Heath era produced some victories, but the teams weren't all that extiting to watch. The first part of the Pelphrey era has been pretty mediocre until the SEC strech began. Now all of a sudden, this team is hustling, playing together and with intensity, and winning. These guys are all of a sudden FUN TO WATCH and the attendance at Bud Walton Arena is starting to show such. Today is a great day to be a HOG fan :-)

  8. Soupdhog says:

The Hogs are a very dangerous team right now. Early in the season, all you had to do is stop Clarke. Then, all you had to do was stop Fortson and Clarke. Now, you've got to worry about Clarke, Fortson, and Powell – which leaves Washington available if he can stay out of foul trouble. Combine that with value added bench play and decent defense, the Hogs are a scary team for anyone – even Kentucky.

They've come a long way, baby.

    • Soupdhog says:

And I'm sure coaching has had nothing to do with it, cause, you know, 18 and 19 year olds can coach themselves to first place in the west and the 3rd best record in the SEC.

      :)

      • OpinionatedBlowHard says:

Coaching is everything. I think it is Rob Evans who has improved all these players in the background. ;)

  9. T-towner says:

If mulligans were allowed for basketball teams, we could maybe arrange to combine last year's non-conference record with this year's conference record and the Hogs of old would truly be back. Like Coach Bobby said this past football season, "How's that sound?"

  10. Swineherd says:

Well it's time to give credit to everybody around the team: they have played themselves out of a deep dark hole. It's almost as if a spell has been broken or a curse lifted. Perhaps their earlier difficulties really did cause them to bond as a team.

So they all deserve applause: Starters and subs, coaches and trainers and assistants, even the administration. . .. No, wait! What? Let's not get carried away.
