Tay Waller scored 29 points and made seven 3-pointers to lead Auburn to a 92-83 win over Arkansas on Saturday night.

They played smart. They played with maturity. They played with swagger, for 35 minutes. That little give and go has turned into an offense.

For all of that, they looked lost in the last five. They’re still young.

I was already set in my mind that we were going to win this game midway threw the second half. We coughed it up! If it wasn’t for the 3 pointers by Auburn we would have won this game! When I played basketball, the goal in my mind while playing against perimeter offense was to pound the post. Powell handled his job but Washington, on the other hand, can’t stay out of foul trouble. Hope Washington picks it back up soon. As of Now!Or at least during the post season?…

‘Crucial Play’ 2.39 left to play, tie game: My boy Cox has checked in for some reason in a hectic situation? Cox wide open for the three!? Fortson drives the hole and shoots up some crap, hoping to draw the foul and make the basket.] C’mon Man!!!?? Either dish it to Cox for the three?!(Cuz, like I’ve said before, Cox is a good shooter.)OR, kick it out and run some offense! And in some “razorback spirited way” Cox would have made the three, we would have won this game.

On a final note, it would have been a bit nicer on us if Miss State would have lost to LSU, then we would go to Baton Rouge to take them on, and win. Which we Must do! Surely, as of now.

If the seniors don’t pick it up next game, I say give their playing time to someone else.

I agree with you about seniors, OBH. Washington is not getting it done. I think he should kiss goodbye any thoughts he had about playing pro.

The Hogs played well enough to win most nights, but Auburn was inspired playing at home on a Saturday night, especially the last five minutes. It seem as tho they made every shot during that stretch.

Hogs are playing competitively, and that’s all I asked of them this season.

Not sure about that – Washington doesn’t hurt us too much when he’s out there, he just doesn’t help us. Although I think with Delvon coming up hopefully he puts some pressure on Mike to step it up. Mike is a better player than just taking a charge every now and then.

Delvon was a beast yesterday. If he can build off of his performance the past few games we may just have a post game going into the SEC tourney and next year between he and Powell. Pelphrey has got to get a Steven Hill type, and one big guard that can defend the perimiter. It’s just too easy to shoot over Fortson and Clarke. Britt can’t cover everyone, unfortunatley – and I think at this point I’d rather see Cox than Welsh. Welsh is a guy that hurts us out there.

Hogs are still improving – they are really rotating a lot on offense which is a good thing. A road game when the other team is shooting the lights out is tough to overcome.

YOu give up 92, you didn’t play much defense.

    • Swineherd

Maybe not much D, Golf. But look at the shooting stats: Aub. shot 61% FG and 75% FT for the game, hitting 25 of 40 FTs, twice as many FTs as the Hogs. That says something about the officiating, IMHO, part of the reason for Washington’s troubles. The announcers have been saying Washington hasn’t been getting equitable calls from the refs the last several games.

So you try to play D and the refs whistle you for fouls. You back off and Aub. hits 61% from the floor. Hell, Aub. couldn’t hit 61% in warmups. They had a great night, for them.

The results are in: basketball has the most corrupt officiating among major sports.

Good points, I agree with you…except I think SEC football officials are the worst in team sports overall. Even worse than NBA officials.

      • GolfHog

What beat us was all of the uncontested threes. Washington has plenty of help inside now. We were undisciplined and lost focus.

Inside 5 minutes every possession is critical. You can run off of good defense but in half court you have to get a good shot.

Auburn played very aggressive defense and we did not take advantage.

      • Swineherd

Hard to argue against your contention, soup, about SEC football refs, especially after last year’s FL game and the following one AL v. ?, that led to the squad being suspended for a week or two. But in basketball it is every game in which the fouls are lopsided, usually in favor of the home team. My theory is that the refs don’t want to listen to the jeers from the fans; they like to hear the cheering; so they whistle against “Away.”

Basketball is hard to call, no doubt, but when two teams are playing each other close, the number of fouls should be about equal. In the UA/AU game, the Hogs were whistled for twice as many fouls. That’s bogus.

Ha. Try pulling off a win at Ole Miss. Year in and year out Ole Miss fields a team of mediocre, at best, players. After all, how many student athletes would want to go to a school in the most poverty stricken state, play in a high school type facility, and have that stupid “hotty totty” crap ringing in their ears all the time? Yet, pulling out a win in their crappy “Tad Pad” has been next to impossible until this year. Maybe this year their talent level has sunk so low that the refs just CAN’T hand them a vicorty on a silver platter.

So keep in mind HOG fans: When we have a little setback here or there, just remind yourself that things could be much worse. Think how bad it would be to be a Retard Rebel fan.

      • Swineherd

Swineomite, that’s great sports satire, the only context in which it is currently PC to call retards retards. Otherwise, the word retard will be removed from standard dictionaries, and in the future it will be referred to in polite conversation as “the r-word.”
