Game Predictions — Vanderbilt

Congratulations to longtime reader Carolina Hog for the closest prediction last week of 38-24.  His quote: “Haven’t seen these Hogs really click yet.  This could be the week, but I’m not banking on it until I see it.”

Yep…another week gone by…and we’re still waiting for this team to “really click.”  But one thing you can bank on: Carolina Hog.  That’s two prediction contest wins for Carolina this season after nailing the exact score in the New Mexico game earlier this year.  If this trend continues, you’ll be wearing a clean RBN T-shirt every day of the week!  Nice job, man…again.

So here we go:

Vanderbilt CommodoresWalking on Sunshine:  I’ve got a bad feeling about this one.  Vandy is better on defense than a lot of people realize.  They tackle well, cover well, and will bring a lot of pressure.  And with our recent propensity to start slow for early morning kickoffs, this one has ‘upset special’ written all over it.  Bobby Petrino, though, has not lost at Arkansas when he was favored to win.  Nothing is ever easy.  Arkansas 31, Vanderbilt 24 (OT).

HogBaller: The Hog offensive and defensive units get off to a fast start.  While the Commodores are more than capable of making this a very tough game, the Razorbacks pull away late and avoid the upset.  Arkansas 35, Vanderbilt 24.

HogBlogger:  The third slow start in an early morning game this season is a charm.  In a bad way.  Vanderbilt 28, Arkansas 24.

TipsterHog:  Wow…that’s some nervous RazorBloggers making those picks.  But as an old college football sage would say: “Not so fast, my friends.”  For once, the Hogs actually show up early to play and we crush the Commies.  Arkansas 42, Vanderbilt 17.

Leave a comment with your name, e-mail address and pick.  And feel free to add your own take like “A Commodore is more than a Captain but less than an Rear Admiral.  Discuss.” or “Anchor drops.  Hogs roll.”

Hogs settle down and settle in for some dominating ball…on both sides of the line.

    Hogs-34

    ‘Dores-17

  • ArchHog

    Dear Hogs,

Please get your mind right for the first half of the game. I’m not sure how many more games I can handle with mini heart attacks and blood pressure that’s thru the roof!

    Sincerely,

    ArchHog

At this point I honestly have no clue, so here goes:

    Arkansas – 34

    Vanderbilt – 27

Hmmm….I am a bit nervous too, Vandy has been pretty decent at home this year. But surely the Hogs will find a way to win :-)

    Hogs 31

    Vandy 24

Vandy keeps it close for 3 quarters, but the Hogs pull away at the end.

    Hogs – 38

    Vandy – 21

By halftime, Hog fans are wondering what they were so nervous about. Arkansas 37, Vanderbilt 17

    Hogs – 31

    Dores – 20

Petrino doesn’t lose to Vandy. Hogs first balanced attack leads to a big day for Dj and J Wright. Hogs cruise 41 – 10.

I’m assuming Petrino has got the attention of the players, the coaches, and himself to solve the first half blues . However, (with me it’s always however) if that gets settled there is no guarantee that there wouldn’t be a second half let down similar to the last Reb TD and the on-side kick. This game may provide an answer to Carolina’s question as to what the Hogs are really made of. I thought, and said so before the Ole Miss game, that the Hogs needed to seriously address the first half lethargies. But what I saw was pedestrian play calling and Wilson’s inability to move the sticks. Worse was the scoring by the opposition. What gives Willy? Razorbacks came out of a bye week seemingly unprepared and against a fanatically driven coach who badly wanted to win that game. Don’t see that for this game providing the coaches do their thing with the offense. However (there’s that word again) a lot will depend on whether the secondry has learned to tackle or at least get to the ball carrier. Even so, a coming out party; Hogs 41, Vandies 14

These guys are good. Franklin is the real deal. He won’t last long in Nashville. All those new openings are looking for the next big thing and he could be it. To get there he needs a signature win.

But, the hogs are coming together. Not fast enough for the fans, but they get better each week. Tyler will rebound off a poor showing and Dennis will look like Knile Davis. The O-line will come to play and Willy will be the goat for one more week.

    Arkansas 35-24

  • Jcul

Hogs sluggish early but D steps up. Hogs-34 Dores-20

  • MemphisHog

I just hope we win. Vandy has nothing to lose and everything to gain. Honestly, what do we gain from beating Vandy? Yes it’s a necessary win for a BCS bid, but in the short term, it’s one of those games that if you win, everyone says “yea they should have won.” But if you lose, everyone bashes the team.

    Hogs – 34

    Dores – 23

  • BSD

Worst game day atmosphere in the SEC doesn’t get any better this week; students don’t show up (literally) for the start of the game, and we give them reason to stay in the dorm:

    Dores- 17

Bad feeling about this one. Hogs have given no reason to feel good. We start a little faster, but it doesn’t matter as Vandy is much better than Ole Miss. Defense makes Rodgers look like his older brother, and their defense is better than any Hog fan believes.

    Vandy 24

    Hogs 14

  • T-towner

The Commodore defense is good, but the offense less so. Unless Arkansas sleeps through the first half, or has a rash of turnovers, this game will be a cruiser for the Hogs.

    Arkansas 36

    Vandy 10

Leaning more toward Tipster – Hogs finally come out fully focused on the game at hand!

    Hogs 42

    Dores 20

  • OlyWaHog

The Ole Miss game was the wake up call, but even a wide awake Hog team still has to deal with a scrappy Vanderbilt at their house. With Tyler Wilson basking in his ESPN glory, and a still-improving Dennis Johnson running for 140, we show enough offensive balance to score 37.

    Ark 37

    Van 20

  • Ward Hog

Tyler throws a lot better today and our running game has life now that DJ has the reins. Vandy’s secondary will have some success, but DJ will open things up for us and allow our WR to have big plays in the second half. Greg Childs where are you?!!!

    Hogs 38

    Vandy 17

Wow! sorry Ward Hog, I never even looked before I posted below. I think we’re on the same page though. (lols!)

    • GolfHog

This may be the game where we see some scoring by special teams.

  • HB_NHB

This game does have the makings of a trap game, but I think the Hogs once again find a way to pull it out in the second half.

    Hogs: 38
    Vandy: 21

  • http://www.therazorbackblogger.com/ GonzoHog

Tyler gets his rythem going early and DJ keeps the Commadores D off balance with gashing runs inside and out.

Joe Adams and Marquel Wade keep us in good field position most of the game.

D-line shows up early to take Vandy’s run game out of the mix. They harrass the QB Rodgers enough to make him commit too many mistakes.

    Hogs roll, 38 – 17.

  • ARKANSAS MAN

    BLOW OUT….52-14

  • I Like Pigs

I’m just going to keep predicting this until it comes true: Hogs play their most complete game and compete in all 4 quarters.

    Backs – 31

    Dores – 17

  • Carolina Hog

Hogs 31-14. Hog’s still not great but its still Vanderbilt.

  • http://razorbloggers TampaHog

It may be Vandy, but it is another road game in the SEC. Vanderbilt is playing with confidence as they have now won as many games this year as they did all of the last two seasons combined. However, the Hogs have drive and desperately want another chance at a BCS bowl.

    Hogs win a close one 28 – 20

  • tomahog

    Hogs 38

    Dores 20

Air Wilson get his groove back

  • Bean Counter

I’m concerned about this game with the early start time, the Hogs history of starting slow and Vandy’s history of being a guaranteed win (which they aren’t this year). In the end the Hog’s will prevail though 28-17.

  • Defense Wins Champio

Might as well be a contrarian to help the Hogs win! Vandy is indeed much better than they have been since they lost that great QB to the pros. Defense can be impressive. They will hit you! It will be a battle. Wilson is knocked out of the game and DJ tweeks his ankle, and Vandy rolls to a 29-20 win.

    • Jonas

DJ is out and Tyler came out. I hope they aren’t hurt, jackass! You should not predict injuries!

  • Nuclearhog

Hogs roll all over the commies 44-17

  • JayTownHog

We hand the ball off like crazy in the beginning. Hogs score early and late. Vandy acts like their making it a close game then…”CHILDS PLEASE.”

Hogs roll late to put it in the books.

    Razorbacks: 41

    Vandy: 24

  • Pigsooietime

Hogs understand the importance of how difficult this game could be. Hogs came well prepared and running on all cylinders . Wilson shows why is the best qb in the sec. Hogs-48. Vandy-24

  • OwassoHog

I haven’t been close all year… so, will I get off to a better start today? Who knows but the Hogs will… they have too… Bobby said so. Hogs will win on the road again. 34-17!
