Game Predictions — Tennessee

Congratulations to longtime reader Little R for the closest prediction last week of 38-27.  Her quote: “Mark Richt leading his team in Hog Calls gives us the extra edge.”

Yeah…we’re sure Georgia Bulldog fans flipped the channel over a few times from the…uh…”Game of the Century” to make sure the Hogs took care of business.  Their path is now wide open to win the SEC East.  And as Coach Petrino said after the game, if the Hogs would’ve played a little better, “It could’ve easily been 60 points on the board.”  But Little R…we know you must have factored in a few dropped TD passes with your pick just to make sure you won a RBN T-Shirt, right?  Ha…congrats.

So here we go:

Tennessee VolunteersWalking on Sunshine:  Once you get the stone rolling like the Hogs did against South Carolina, it’s hard to stop.  The Vols don’t have the firepower on offense to hang around.  Arkansas 41, Tennessee 19.

HogBaller:  A sellout crowd at RRS watch as the Hogs take care of the Volunteers early and send a great group of seniors out right.  Arkansas 51, Tennessee 17.

HogBlogger:  Hogs roll on Senior Day.  Arkansas 42, Tennessee 10.

TipsterHog:  Tennessee coach Derek Dooley is also a lawyer…but there’s no way he plea bargains out of this verdict.  Arkansas 45, Tennessee 14.

Leave a comment with your name, e-mail address and pick.  And feel free to add your own take like “Vols won’t need to bring their frat boy kicker“ or “Smokey lays down.  Hogs roll.”

Tennessee might actually need some Volunteers out on the field this weekend. Hogs are going to destroy the Volunteers.

I’m thinking the Hogs come out overlooking Tennessee and stumble again in the first half like they have several times this year, but blow it up in the second half.

I’m not sure who will be overlooking who in this game. It is at home and it’s Senior Day. On paper this looks like a blowout. Tennessee can still become bowl eligible with victories over Vanderbilt and Kentucky who, despite past records, are traditional rivals. Putting your eggs in one basket might not be the Vols coaching staff’s idea of strategy (I have this feeling that Bray will be ready for Vandy). The chatter I read on the USC sites last week was that although the Hogs were favored they were beatable (It seems that using the Military Channel’s Top Ten ratings that the Hogs fear factor is not high – probably thanks to Ole Miss). On the other hand chatter on the Tennessee sites this week was despair . I’m thinking that Dooley is more worried about the ‘Dores and ‘Cats than he is about the Hogs.

As a rule Arkansas gets MSU just before the big rivalry game with Ole Miss and all thoughts by the Dogs are on that game, which may explain the Hog’s positive record against MSU. This year Ole Miss is is total disarray and will probably get destroyed by LSU the week before. The MSU staff figures that game to be a lock, rivalry not withstanding. Add to that the game will be on CBS and Mullens may want to put his best feet (sic) forward. All of this is clear to the Hog’s staff and that the MSU game will be a challenge even though the Hogs are not supposed to lose in the Rock. Hopefully, the Hogs aren’t looking ahead one week (or further). If they can get off early (ha ha) then Mitchell can get more touches in preparation for the next two games. Razorbacks 41-Vols 14.

A little letdown after a big USCe game.

    Tenn: 21

    Ark: 34

(Hedging my bets, it most likely will be a big rout.)

  • Justin

The defense is coming together at the end of the year as it did last year. Should be a big rout.

Not as much fun whippin’ ‘em without Fulmer on the other sideline. Dooley is doing well.

Big time statement game for our boys leading this home stretch. Need a dominate performance to impress the voters. Hogs rout Vols 55 – 10.

  • Carolina Hog

Hog’s 41-16. Most complete game of the year. Defense put up back to back good performances.

  • Hawg65

Hogs go out with a bang at Fayetteville and a full house gets to enjoy the game for a change without having to win it in the second half. But defense stills gives up 2 TDs and 1 FG.

Tap the breaks. UT’s losses include Bama, LSU, SC, Georgia, and FL(with QB).

I will go with the common opponent game scores and fuzzy math:

    Arkansas 27.25

    Tenn 18.75

BTW, looks like the SEC West schedule rotation didn’t work out that well for UT this year.

    • Guinness Snout

brakes, my mind is slower than my fingers

  • soupdhog

Stoerner as the honorary captain is a bad omen, but doesn’t stop the Hogs from crushing the Vols. The best part of this game? We’ll only have to hear Rocky Top played 3 times.

The Hogs have finally got it together and almost get a shut out.

    Hogs: 49

    Vols: 7

  • T-towner

Clint Stoerner gets a pass on this one. AND, I might add, he did not fumble the ball against UT in 1998. The refs made a bad call (see 1971 as well) on a non-fumble. The play was dead the instant he set the ball on the ground while still holding it in his hand. The ground cannot cause a fumble!

    Enough of that:

If we should have had 60 on South Carolina, surely we can get to at least 50 against the Vols before Bobby shows a little mercy? Hogs won’t be looking ahead. They’ll be business-like, but fired up on Senior night.

Arkansas D doesn’t allow a single touchdown the whole game! Greg Childs gets his first Touchdown of the season! Hogs roll big in this one…with 300 yrds passing and 100 yrds rushing, should be a fun night on the hill.

  • Tnarch

Things are so bad at Tennessee that they had to track down a red-shirt freshman and get him a police escort to the stadium an hour before the game to have a kicker….3 extra points and a short field goal earned him the game ball. No game ball for any Volunteers this week. It all comes together for the Hogs. Tennessee Volunteers will feel like they’ve been to the Alamo again.

Hogs give up a couple of TD’s early but other than that it is all Hog’s 49-17.

Woooo Pig Sooooie!!!! It will be a lot of fun to see who ends up the new Arkansas leader in receptions (153) between Wright (150) and Adams (151). My money says Wright takes charge in the first half, but Adams won’t stand idly by without a fun battle in the second half. In the end, Wright will be UoA’s new receptions leader… for now. Oh, and there’s the beat down that we hand the Vols! Hopefully, Stoerner won’t ‘drop the ball’ when it comes to being honoray captian (still hard for me to forgive that one!).

Thanks for the love from last week’s picks, TipsterHog. You know how I love adding to my wardrobe! :)

My how times have changed…..the Hogs are the big boys now and the Volunteers find themselves trying for an upset. I say we continue our streak of winning when favored.

Whats orange and ugly and says UT on anything? Texas or Tenn, both have Fugly colors. I love messing with the Texans here. See a UT and orange anything… tell them ‘Yeah, I’m a Tennessee fan too’. I LOVE the expressions and the verbage that comes from that. Yep, if it rocks their ship, I will swish it. :-)
