Wow, after reading the ArkansasRazorbacks.com link, I am simply stunned. How much more sad could this be?
After all the hype surrounding last nights scores around the country, what started out as a great day for the Razorbacks, has turned out to be the worst I can ever remember.
This puts things in reality and shows the insignificance of football as opposed to a human life. God bless his family and God bless Garrett Uekman.
The Westboro Church seems to be looking at protesting Garrett's funeral. If this is the case, a counter protest needs to be arranged to block these people. Also if anyone has any pull in the Arkansas Legislature we need someone to stop this insanity. I believe in the 1st Amendment but freedom of speech does not mean freedom to say anything anywhere you choose. A funeral is a family's last chance at mourning their loved ones. It is not a chance for someone else to desecrate the memory of the family member. Funerals are private. They can exercise their freedom in their own church.
If this is indeed true, then an effective counter-march needs to be organized immediately. Hate Speech has no place anywhere, least of all at a funeral. And the UA Community really needs no more distractions at this time.
What?…Why?…What are they crying over? What in God's creation is so important about what they think right now that they believe a protest is in order at the expence of the Uekman family? What an outrage! I'm simply at a loss for words. Where do these people come from, Mars?
I've heard on the news a couple of times where funerals are beginning to be protested by certain people with so called agendas or beliefs…big deal. Their first amendment rights may cover their butts legally, but doing something like this, at the expence of a family, makes them look fake IMO.
How can they say they represent the Lord when they have no respect for their fellow brothers and sisters? They should do the right thing and stay away from that funeral!
Now many of you know how deceased veteran's families felt about this group of kooks. My son played basketball at Catholic and my grandson, freshman football this year. One of my son's friends posted on face book that he knew of 200 Catholic High alumni that will not let them get anywhere near the funeral. I can only hope. If I weren't so far away and too old, I would join them. Beat them with my cane and dare the authorities to arrest me. Funerals should be sacred and out of bounds. I once thought that Justice Holmes was correct with his yelling fire in a theatre concern. We now have a social construct that allows too much tolerance on one hand and yet, is too PC unforgiving on the other. Irrational. My solution; make the Westboro group join the Occupiers downtown, they deserve each other (as fellow protesters, that is).
