Razorbacks Unveil 2012 Football Uniforms

ArkansasRazorbacks.com: Arkansas Unveils New Nike Football Uniforms

The University of Arkansas unveiled new uniforms for the 2012 season Wednesday featuring Nike Pro Combat System of Dress technology combined with a unique cutting-edge design inspiration that harkens back to the Razorbacks rich tradition and history.

I always thought Razorback red, black, white and gray worked well as uniform colors. Seeing those colors together reminds me of the glory days of a full stadium, NFL prospects like Bill Bergey and going to watch the number 1 team in the nation play in Kay’s Stadium in Jonesboro.

I’m still upset they did away with Jumpin’ Joe, but that’s progress and who am I to stand in the way of the that (or political correctness.)

Yes, I saw many of the Arkansas State Indian’s games way back then. I enjoy watching football.

It is going to be a bit weird watching the Razorbacks dressed in Arkansas State colors, but I suppose I should get with the times and just accept this. This uniform thing helps bring attention and supposedly improves recruiting. Since the Hogs will pay anybody but Arkansas State a huge fee for a home game, I suppose it is the least the U of A can do to adopt and market the Arkansas State school colors. I’m sure Gus appreciates the gesture.

    Go Arkansas team Go!

I never knew the Razorbacks played in Jonesboro when you said a full stadium and the number 1 team. I was wondering who the number1 team was if it wasn’t Arkansas. I wish the Hogs would play the Indians/Red Wolves so the long time dream that ASU has would finally be put to rest with the thorough pounding year in and year out that ASU would receive.

Butt Fugly. Those are costumes, not uniforms. And that’s not progress; it’s just change. . .and not for the better. If you’re gonna defy tradition you’d damn well better improve upon it. When the sleeves are a different color from the rest of the jersey it looks more like a baseball uniform!

    Good luck in Omaha. WPS!

Not bad. I don’t have a strong feeling on uniforms one way or another, but these look fine — I didn’t think I’d like the white helmet, but I actually do.

Despite what JLS says about each helmet able to be worn with each uni, I highly doubt we’ll see the white helmet together with the gray uni — the University might have a heap of lawsuits on its hands for emotional distress, leading to heart attacks.

I would agree that these things look more like costumes than uniforms. The black costume is dog ugly. Everyone loved the red helmet with the white Razorback and it was recognized around the country. The white helmet is sad! With the white helmet it will sometimes be hard to tell in newsprint what team it represents. How terriblly sad. I thought we had made good progress with the uniforms in the last couple of years and I loved the “away” uniforms. But these are a big disappointment.

Those white helmets and red pants suck!…plain and simple. I like everything else.

On a side note, has Tyler Wilson grown bigger? I’m pretty familiar with the heights/weights of the players and I know Wilson is supposed to be listed at 6-3, 220 lbs., but if Tank Wright is supposed to be 6-2, 252, (as shown standing beside Wilson) then Tyler must be closer to 6-4, 230 now and Cobi must be closer to 6-2 instead of 6-3.

    Anyone see what I’m seeing?

The new black costumes look like they could be OK State, Oregon, Pitt, Purdue, T. Tech, Georgia, and a lot of high school teams. Black uniforms have become a fad across college football and hopefully it doesn’t last.

      amen!

I can handle the red pants, just as long as they’re worn with white jersys and red helmets.

What about all white…including the helmet? Now we’re getting somewhere. ;)

No thanks. Looks like OSU’s road unis.

If 11+ winning seasons continue, I suspect the uniform issue becomes a moot point. Personnally, I like the update. Human nature is to avoid change, but if there was no change, life in general would be pretty crappy. To quote Al Davis, “just win baby.”

I love the new uniforms. And I’m an old guy :)

You have to understand, the Nike brand, the quality and style of uniforms is very important in the eyes of the kids. These changes are more about something else that we can use to attract talent than ‘tradition’.

I’ve seen comments from folks that the uniform shouldn’t matter, it should be that kids want to be Hogs, blah blah blah…..maybe in fantasy land that’s the case. Reality is the fashion statement and popularity of t-shirts and uniforms play a larger role than most people think. And the charcoal uniform is huge in the eyes of the kids.

    Go Hogs!

Oh and by the way RazorBloggers, super glad you guys went back to the old commenting format. Now that’s what I’m talkin ’bout! ;)

Thanks Gonzo. We’re still tweaking the commenting format a little but we’re not planning to continue using IntenseDebate.

Ok… finally got a chance to check out the uniforms. What a big disappointment. White helmet, gloves, and gray jersey make this a bust. I think the gray letters make Arkansas hard to read but doesn’t quite fall into the bust category (along with the numbers).

As for all of the hype, I don’t buy it. Maybe the material but the rest is just hogwash to me.

I guess we’ve peaked as an football program now. Lowering my expectations even more for this year. :-(

soupdhog! thanks for your comment. Hognation has got to get out the mindset that we are some traditional super power like Ohio State, or USC. We aren’t. We’ve been good, but not great, and we need an edge. Part of that edge are these unis. We are doing the right things, and in a tradition preservation league like the SEC, we are setting ourselves a part as a new, and better alternative. If we keep winning, and keep looking good doing it, eventually we will be right there with Bama and LSU, and making them have to re think their uniforms. Plus, these new duds are straight up kick ass. All of them, white helmet included. Which, by the way, is the original color of the Razorback helmet, so what do you traditionalists have to say about that?
