If Arkansas plays like that on Saturday it (((((((((will)))))))) be ugly. We missed way to many free throws, way to many silly fouls, and we settled for the jump shot too much, instead of trying to get the ball inside. Florida may beat us by 30 Saturday. But if Arkansas can figure out a way to pull one of the big upsets on the road, that should be enough (if they hold serve at home) to get them into the tourney, with some credible play in Nashville as well. I don’t understand this new SEC basketball scheduling, how do some teams end up having to play the top two teams in teh conference twice, while others just once? Arkansas still has to play 3 horrendous road games down the stretch, while, the other teams they’re competing with for that 4th spot in the SEC tourney have it much-much easier down the stretch. Seems unfair. And the officiating was terrible tonight, they let them push off to get the offensive rebound time and time again. I hope the officials Saturday are better than this bunch tonight, or we may lose by 40.

      Jeff,

With 18 conference games and only 13 teams to play against, math dictates you’ll play some of the teams twice and some once. Some teams will have easier schedules than others. The flip side to what you’re saying is that the SEC is pretty terrible this year, which means there are not many opportunities for a quality win. Our schedule down the stretch may be tough, but playing Florida twice and Missouri twice means we at least have the opportunity to notch two more quality wins, and we wouldn’t have that chance if we only played those teams once each (though I agree with what I think you’re implying…it’s highly unlikely we’ll beat either of them on the road). Other than UF and Miz, who else in the conference would be a quality win? A couple weeks ago we’d have said Kentucky, but they’re on the verge of falling off the radar after losing Noel. I guess Ole Miss would be a quality win (if we had beaten them, that is), but that’s pretty much it.

If we want to think Big Dance, the bare minimum down the stretch will be beat UK and TAMU at home, beat LSU on the road, at least be competitive with UF and Miz on the road, and win probably two games in the SEC Tournament. But I still don’t think doing that will be enough to get us in. I think we’re either going to have to pull a shocker in Gainesville or Columbia, or win the whole thing in Nashville…otherwise it’s NIT. Which I would be OK with at this point, although it’s a letdown from preseason expectations.

        Skywalker,

I agree with most of what you say, especially the statement you made in regards to the NCAA tourney. I think if Arkansas can find some way to pull one of the big two on the road, that will get them in. Or option 2, we have to get the 4 seed, and make it to the Semi’s in Nashville. While of course holding serve at home and beating a tough LSU team on the road as well. That would get us 22 wins, with several quality wins against Tourney teams, and that should do it.. IMHO.. Again, it just seems unfair that we have to lineup twice against the best 2 teams in the conference, while the great Alabama, who’s currently ahead of us only has to play Florida and Mizzou once each. And Ole Miss who’s ahead of us, only has to play Florida once. Kentucky who’s ahead of us, only has to play Mizzou once. Let’s be honest, this set’s up completely unfair scheduling. I’m gonna laugh if Arkansas pulls one of the big upsets, and gives them a big chit burger to eat.

The good story is that the team is winning games. The past 3 years have been very poor play in the last 10 games of the season. I do not expect much on Saturday but hope for a respectable finish to the season. I feel the Mike Anderson influence starting to have a positive effect. Next year should have continued improvement.
