Hold All Tickets: Week 14 Rivalry Weekend

1940 Rose BowlWe gave back all the progress we made in Week 12 last week.  Our 9-9 record over the last two weeks is not going to pay the bills.  This week’s rivalry slate of games offers some good chances for us to get back on track.

In our friendly, season long competition with Arkansas Fight, Graham is hot and we are not.  His four week winning streak (68%) has him flying high at the finish.  With two weeks left, we have no margin for error.  😉  You can see Graham’s Week 14 picks here.

Here we go.

TCU at Texas – The only Thursday game on our card, the Longhorns have really improved over the last month offensively.  Texas is averaging 32 PPG in their last three and with a defense ranked 24th nationally in points allowed (21.0) we think they can hang in here and keep this one close, and have a shot to pull off the upset.  Texas +7.

Stanford at UCLA – The Bruins are flying high after thrashing USC 38-20 last week.  After struggling defensively early in the season, UCLA has only allowed an average of 299 YPG in the last three.  Star WR Ty Montgomery is out for the Cardinal, which deflates an already struggling Stanford offense.  UCLA -4.5.

Colorado State at Air Force – HC Jim McElwain has the Rams clicking on all cylinders as they enter the last week of the regular season with a 10-1 record and tied for the top spot in the Mountain Division.  Air Force starting QB Kale Pearson (concussion) is iffy-questionable to play.  We like CSU big.  Colorado State -6.5.

Virginia at Virginia Tech – Two good defenses against two bad offenses.  Virginia Tech is fresh off a 6-3 overtime loss to ACC bottom feeder Wake Forest.  Can’t see either of these teams scoring much at all in this one.  For the two teams combined, the under is 15-6 on the year.  This game the last four years has gone under the total.  We’re going under.  Virginia/Virginia Tech Under 41.

Mississippi State at Ole Miss – The Rebels are reeling after their 30-0 shutout in Fayetteville.  The Ole Miss offense without star WR Laquon Treadwell is sputtering, and now QB Bo Wallace is hobbled.  The Bulldogs have to make a statement for the Selection Committee in their last game.  Mississippi State -2.

Idaho at Appalachian State – We see a lot of quit in Paul Petrino’s Vandals.  Idaho (1-9) ends their death march by making a very long trip to Boone, NC to face an App State team who is on fire, winning five straight (4-1 ATS).  Can’t see the Vandals stopping the App State rushing attack (244.9 YPG).  Appalachian State -16.5.

Minnesota at Wisconsin – The Badgers are looking to clinch the Big 10 Western Division with a win over the Gophers this week.  Star Minny RB David Cobb is ‘very questionable’ after suffering a hamstring injury last week.  Minnesota is at the back end of a brutal three game stretch (Ohio St, Nebraska) and will likely struggle against the 3rd ranked Wisky defense (16.1 PPG).  Wisconsin -14.

Michigan State at Penn State – We have seen few offenses worse than Penn State.  The complete inability to run the ball and protect QB Christian Hackenburg does not allow PSU to sustain drives and win field position.  Michigan State ranks 6th nationally in points scored (43.9), and should do enough to cover this number.  Michigan State -13.

Oregon at Oregon State – Oregon is playing its best football of the year down the stretch.  QB Marcus Mariota is pretty much a lock for the Heisman, and the Ducks find themselves solidly behind Alabama ranked #2.  Oregon has covered six straight, and isn’t giving many points to an Oregon State squad that has lost 6 of 8 and struggled to score.  Ducks keep the mojo going.  Oregon -19.5.
