The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly – Southeast Missouri State

Some random thoughts from Sunshine after watching the SEMO game.

The Good

  • We all knew going in that this might be a game where Michael Smith might get the stage…and he didn’t disappoint.  Smith, the 5 foot 7 inch tailback, was electric in his moves and broke a few more tackles than one might have guessed in posting 116 yards and two TDs.
  • Nice to see Robert Johnson, now a WR, contribute with a good 22 yard catch and run in the third quarter.  The ovation from the crowd was great, and let it be known that the Hog fans appreciate his contributions while he adjusts to a new position.
  • Great to see London Crawford and Damian Williams grab their first TDs as Hogs.  We want these guys to stay happy as they wait for their role to increase.
  • Some may not have noticed, but Mark Bonner was a demon on special teams.  It seemed like he was in on the play on every kick.  Good to get him back after his injury to bolster our kick coverage units.  Keep an eye on #49.
  • And what can I say…Keith Jackson, Jr….69 yard interception return for a touchdown…oxygen mask on the sideline…Crip Hall Award in his pocket.  Doesn’t get any better than that for a D-Lineman.

The Bad

  • The muffed punt by Cedric Washington was the worst play on the day, where there were few negative plays.  It was discovered (after the fact) that Ced had a concussion from a few plays earlier.  Looking up into the sun was no help either.  So we’ll give him a “mulligan” on this one, and hope it doesn’t happen again.

The Ugly

  • I have to agree with Scott Cain’s blurb…the “green square” right in the middle on the Pig-Screen was about the only “ugly” thing of note on this sun-splashed day in Fayetteville.  Bring on the Rebels! Go Hogs!
