Beverley Named SEC Newcomer of the Year

Patrick Beverley (AP Photo/Dan Lopez)Arkansas freshman guard Patrick Beverley has been named the Southeastern Conference Newcomer of the Year by the Associated Press, it was announced on Tuesday, and junior guard Gary Ervin has been named the SEC Player of the Week for the second time this season.

[...] Among all newcomers in the SEC, [Beverley] is first in scoring, free-throw percentage, three-point percentage, steals and minutes played; ninth in rebounding, third in assists and second in three-point goals.

Beverley is Arkansas’ first SEC Newcomer of the Year since Joe Johnson won the award as a freshman in 2000.

    It's sad no one wants to comment on this kid's accomplishments. For a true freshman, that wasn't heavily recruited, he has done quite well in the SEC. If Houston Nutt can last 9 years, then Stan should be back next year to coach this young man. GO HOGS!!

    GONZO…you're right on…Beverley was a great late recruiting period pickup. Probably the best one of the year for anyone. And he may end up being a job-saver for Stan.
