My sincere opinion about this guy is, with the sucsess he’s had the last 9 years at Creighton, which is based in Omaha, Neb., he may do very well here. He may not be a big name coach, but big names are built in big schools. I don’t believe anyone was talking about Billie Gillespie when he was at UTEP, and I don’t think anyone was raving about John Calipari when he was at UMASS, back before 1996. Eddie Sutton came from this same school, back in 1974. Did anyone know him? The biggest issue when we hired Nolan Richardson was that he was the first black man to hold a coaching position at the UofA. Dana Altman deserves as much of a chance as any of these guys did. The word is, you never have to worry about his players not being prepared, or not playing with intensity, and that they play with disipline. Sounds pretty nice to me, considering we didn’t see much of this the last 5 years.

Solid pick. I like the pick. Great fit for our program. Go Hogs.

Yawn! Somebody wake me up when we see something exciting from UofA! No offensive guys but this just isn’t that much better.

Let’s see if the guy steps up before things get exciting. I’m afraid that Frank has left us high and dry here. A whole lot of talking but little to show for all of the hype. :-(

We’re not going to really see what this guy is made of until we see him recruit the next couple of years, and see what he does with his own players, but I will say this; he is going to have to show that he can make Stan’s players live up to exspectations next year. This current team is exspected to win at a different level next season. This will also have a big impact on the type of players he’ll be able to bring in. Good luck Coach Altman! GO HOGS!!

I don’t think a lot of Arkansas fans would have been happy unless Broyles hired Phil Jackson.

I’m excited about this pick. He seems to be just what we as fans were wanting. The return of 40 minutes of hell and fast break dunks and all with out the poor me attitude. Also congratualations to Heath for landing with the Big East. Good luck to both fine men.

The best news is Beverly is staying!!!!! He’s already passed one test. Now, let’s see how he does this weekend when all those stud AAU players are in town for The Real Deal on The Hill. From all accounts, we’re going to have one, maybe two scholarships open THIS year. So, he still could get a couple before next season… not that there’s a whole lot out there to choose from right now.

Yawn! Somebody wake me up when Owasso has some positive to say about Razorback sports.

    Amen to Carolina Hog!

  11. OwassoHog on April 3rd, 2007 9:05 am

Hey, we are getting a new AD! That’s positive! Maybe.

  12. BlindHog on April 3rd, 2007 9:52 am

No maybe about it. 50 years is only about 25 years too long for one administration. That could be Frank’s legacy. A lot of that will depend on David Lee and Houston.

I do think Altman deserves a chance. He shows some skills. Stan did a good job off rebuilding the team so Altman didn’t have to come it with nothing to work with.

You know I noticed on the Creighton board that he had a 4 star point guard signed who is asking for his release. If he can sign a couple 4 star guys every year and solid players otherwise, and then coach then okay. I will besurprised if he signs as good a crop as Heath. But Stan’s never quite panned out on the floor. We will see. Probably a solid recruiter but not necessarily a great recruiter. Of course he has never had a good place to recruit to. Creighton is a nice place, and a good school, but nothing to draw the attention of great players.

“But Stan’s never quite panned out on the floor”
Either they were not that “good a crop” or Stan couldn’t quite coach’em.

  16. GONZOHOG on April 3rd, 2007 3:39 pm

As far as players are concerned, Darrien Towns is the one that worries me. He has a world of talent, but only plays when he feels like it. I hope Coach Altman gets this kid’s mind right, because Stan was just too nice a guy to fix it.

  17. Dieinghog on April 3rd, 2007 3:55 pm

I am not real impressed yet. I know everyone is looking at his record but all I saw was Stan on stage. This soft spoken guy from a small school with this deer caught in the headlights look. I hope he can get it done in the SEC.

  18. Dieinghog on April 3rd, 2007 4:01 pm

Only Towns can fix Towns as much as I hate to say it the kids lazy and he plays when he wants to play. He has real potential but he will still be a come off the bench guy next year until he makes up in his mind he is ready to commit to the program.

Most likely Owosso is a virtual LSU tiger fan or Ole Miss Rebel fan in disguise as a hog. They would be hard pressed to prove their loyalty to the Razorback nation. Real fans do not constantly bad mouth their program. And Owosso is a constant belly acher. No doubt with so much belly aching, they live on indigestion medicine. And with that sour attitude probably has never had a real job in their life….or at least for any duration. If they have a job it is likely a very cushy job and their last name is “Hall”.

  20. OwassoHog on April 3rd, 2007 11:47 pm

Defense, sorry… true fan and a graduate of Uof A. Having said that, if you have a “sick” feeling so times it is better to just “throw up” and move on rather than continue to be “sick”.

I’ve been a supporter for almost 30 years (probably attending more than 100 football games) during this timeframe I have never see anything within the program like we have the last year. How many self-inflicted wounds can we take?
