Defense and kicking are important 23. We lost the last two for lack of a couple of first downs. Or, yes, a good defensive stop. With our team you would put more stock in a couple of first downs.

The stats after four games played. (all stats courtesy of SECSports.com)
The Hogs are:
2nd in FG kicking
1st in T.O.P.
3rd in Kickoff coverage
2nd Scoring offense
1st Kickoff returns
1st Rushing offense
1st Total offense
6th Passing efficiency

10th Scoring defense
10th Pass defense
11th Punting
8th Turnover margin
8th Rushing defense
10th Total defense
11th Punt returns

The Hogs averaged 149.5 ypg passing in 2006, they are at 182.5 ypg for 2007.
When are we going to stop talking about Casey Dick? The secret is not to simply outscore everyone. If that were the case Hawaii would have been National Champs for about the last ten years. THE PROBLEM IS DEFENSE! Hello, 2000 Baltimore Ravens. Would we be 4-0 with the Golden child and Gus? Really? We lost eight players off the defense, 2 were 1st round draft picks. Could we really have expected to be the same. I say no. We need to get over it. We are four points away from the same record as we had last year at this time. I guess we'll see if Reggie can turn it around, cause if he doesn't, I don't know if we'll win another game starting with Auburn. GO HOGS!

Great chance to build confidence against the last rated defense in the country. Receivers needed the boost to just know they could catch the ball.

Sure hated to see Auburn regain their composure right before we play them.

Looking forward to a couple of weeks when we can see if the games against patsies helps or hurts.

This team was in some bad need of some...any confidence. Like Gonzo, I'm going to wait and see, but they showed some life on both sides of the ball last night.

One more tune up before Auburn.

I did not get to see last night's game, but the writers say that we had four drops of Casey's passes. What's up with this? I can remember when Razorbacks consistently made unbelievable catches and seldom had any embarrassing drops. Remember Tim Horton against Ole Miss and Texas? Maybe he needs to coach receivers instead of running backs?

The loser of the Auburn game can go ahead and make reservations for Shreveport although that match up with Tulsa in Memphis is intrigueing.

I'm glad we still have a little life, a little spirit. That is something to build on. Gonzo is right. 50 per cent against these guys is a bad sign for the passing game. Emert's 75 per cent is more like it. Auburn had 65 per cent against Florida. Can you imagine them against our secondary?

This can still be a Houston Nutt turn around team. It is what he has always done best. There is still the senerio where Florida beats LSU and Baton Rouge is played for the return trip to Atlanta. I don't know see where we find the defense for that though. We really needed Alabama and Kentucky just to get to the Cotton Bowl with this team. Unless we find a play caller and tighten up the defense and special teams we are still looking at 7-5 or 6-6 so far. Maybe is we ever get Monk back. Our passing offense and defense just don't show the potential for enough improvement to stay with the good teams.

But, it is a first step. They did what they were supposed to do.

Also, the 2 losses the Tigers had at home, wasn't as bad as what it first looked like. South Florida turned out to be a pretty darn good football team, and Miss. St. is nobody's fool this year. You better buckle up your chin-strap before you play these guys. They play to win. It's starting to look like Auburn was caught not looking at the wrong time, but it looks like they have plenty of momentum now.

Great win for the Hogs, but I still have my reservations about it being a big confidence builder for Casey. He still knows it was against inferior talent. He only broke 50% by 2 completed passes, so he went from just under 50%, against solid SEC defenders, compared to just over 50%, against a lot less. Not trying to knock Casey, but I'm not going to buy into this "we've turned a corner" thing. I am a little encouraged though, that our defense played a little better than I exspected. N.Texas is no pushover on the offensive side of the ball, so that was good to see. If anything, perhaps we have turned a corner a little defensively. Congrates to Jerrell Norton on the 100 yd. int. return. Overall, it was a good win for the Hogs. I hope, with all trhe upsets we had yesterday in college football, the Hogs won't get sloppy next week, looking ahead to Auburn. They need to just keep taking care of buisiness, and keep on getting better. Auburn gained a great deal of confidence yesterday, with their big win over the Gators in the swamp. I garantee you they'll be ready.

Could this be the beginning of a great run? I sure hope so. This maybe the game that Casey needed.
Go HOGS!
