WOW!!!!!!!! It sure doesn’t look like now we are ready for Auburn. I’m concerned razorback nation real concerned. This game could be a major setback. If HDN has ever coached now is the time.

  2. D A IN MTN HOME says:

After this game Houston and the rest of the coaching staff should avoid the media at all costs. We don’t need them negatively slamming our players in the media like Houston and David have done in the last couple of weeks. These next two games will define how our season will end up.We have to win both games to regain confidence in our players.A split of these games won’t do if we expect to get six wins and be bowl eligible.I hope we can do it,but I’m beginning to lean towards finishing 5 and 7 after watching our remaining opponents ply this week.I’m still a very loyal hog fan,but I am a person that believes in reality and facts. The fact is our coaching staff cannot come up with a complete game plan to beat our sec foes. The reality is Darren and Felix can’t carry us all game even with the tremendous hearts they have.It comes down to coaching .DO WE HAVE ANY COACHING?????????

  3. HogBloggerJr says:

I just want to say I love the hogs, but man this is depressing. We just don’t care anymore and it’s showing on the field. I honestly think the players have started to give up on Nutt and this whole thing is about to implode, starting with Auburn. We play like this on Saturday and Auburn will beat us by 3 Touchdowns. We lose to Auburn and it’s likely that we get taken by USC-east, Tennessee, Ole Miss and I hate to see what LSU does to us. Next Saturday will define the season and that does not excite me. I can not believe our coaching is this miserable and Houston if your reading this get your brother out of things, he is no longer a coach. And also this win was not precious, stop saying that.

  4. BlindHog says:

It’s no surprise that the soap opera took the heart out of this team and coaching staff. Big time college football is tough enough for both without distractions the size we had in the off season.

Frank is responsible and clearly should have been honored and removed years ago. Houston had very little business here to begin with but showed well for awhile. I don’t think his heart has been in it for a few years now, he just can’t find the exit. But, the biggest mess in this whole deal is that we ran off a decent offensive mind for a guy who calls plays worse than Dale.

  5. GonzoHog says:

It’s pretty obvious this team just showed up to enjoy the festivities. There was absolutely NO focus on playing a football game, and to make matters worse, these kids were actually looking ahead to playing Auburn. How in the world can you look ahead of schedual, in the midst of not being a very good football team? Did they think because beating N. Texas was so easy, this team would be easier? The bottom line is, YOU ALWAY’S COME TO PLAY!!! Focus seems to be the key issue here. If focus doesn’t come into play this week in practice, then you can hang it up for the rest of the season!! I didn’t see Auburn looking past Vandy. They took care of business, and continued to get better before facing the Hogs in Fayetteville. They won’t be the least bit intimidated after what they did to the Gators in the Swamp last week. As a matter of fact, if I were a player or a coach for the Tigers right now, I would feel pretty darn good about my chances. The Tigers are still alive for the SEC West tital, unlike the Hogs, and appear to be a team looking to make a run at LSU. They have to win out, beating LSU head to head. If they do this, they play for the tital. THEY WILL COME TO PLAY!!! It’s really too bad the Hogs will still be questioning themselves coming into this ball game!! What a shame!!

I guess we could just cry about it all week, but reality should tell us that were not a very good football team. This team is well far from exspectations. The Hiesman talk of the pre-season has definately overshadowed reality. The reality is, talent-wise, we have the best athletes in the country assembled in the backfield, but team-wise, we are inconsistant. That trend will not stop on it’s own. The only way to cure it is busting your butt until you get better. These Hogs have not shown that they are willing to make the sacrifice. You have to have great leadership to convince young men to “suck it up” and persevere. Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe it’s the players fault.

  7. Is it too early to start the discussion: “Can we get Bowl Eligible?”

Man, I can’t believe we didn’t pound these guys. That’s unusual for them to lay an egg (be flat) in Little Rock.

  8. BlindHog says:

This team played the first half against Kentucky, the third quarter against ‘bama, and got caught up in the excitement against North Texas. Otherwise, this team has shown nothing that would make you think they will not be in for a struggle just to get bowl eligible. The play calling and execution look very similar to the 4-7, 2005 team. The defense is in big trouble. The cannot stop the run or the pass. That doesn’t leave much. Despite the best backfield in school history, with our pitiful passing game, no consistent rushing attack (someone please do the stats on drives over 65 yards for a TD,) and no creativity to keep defenses off balance it is hard to see where your first SEC victory comes from. It could be Miss St in the Rock.

Of course this bunch looked pretty hapless last year until the took care of Auburn. We have one last week of hope. At least Auburn should come in over confident. And, they won’t be expecting all of that stuff we haven’t been showing yet.

We just don’t have the horses that we had last year. Too bad for Darren. Finishing second last year was a great honor and he will get some votes this year too. His health is a real concern. Maybe if we lose on Saturday they will ease off of him and save his health for the NFL.

  9. T-towner says:

Well, call me a one-hit-wonder for winning the shirt last week and then picking our Hogs to win 80-0 yesterday. Well, all I have to say is better to be a one-hit-wonder than a half to no-hit wonder like HDN is beginning to look. I know we had some questions coming into the season, but the lack of focus is stunning. We must throw the football better and we continue to show an incomprehension about the passing game. How sad it is to think that we have this much talent and this little leadership.

  10. Jim Daly Sr. says:

Maybe this is just a ruse to get Auburn to be overconfident. If not, then maybe, I’ll get to see Darren break the rushing record. next week. The fans attitude after the first half was one of doom and gloom. Half were saying, “Oh no, not another Appalachian State”, while the other half, inlcuding me, felt we would win, but not by much. Having Tejada gives one confidence in a close game. This is the first Razorback game I have ever left early from (with 5 minutes to go), Both coaches were trying to run out the clock. So why bother to stay? The play calling for Arkansas was frustratingly strange. Two examples:. To go for it on your own 45 with 4th and 1 right after you just failed to make a yard on 3rd and 1? (the fans, with the exception of me were hollering to go for It). Also, It would seem to me that with 3rd and 5 on the 15 that this would be a possession down, but no, we throw into the end zone and settle for a field goal. Some of you may remember that in college cerrtain organizations such as fraternities and sororities had test banks for courses being taken byr their members. I swear somebody had Nutt’s playbook in their bank and gave it to the Mocs. Another thing that bohtered me was that long run up the middle by the Mocs back. Our secondary didn’t get near him, which may explain why our opponents receivers are getting behind the defenders on man coverage. Lastly, were there any boos at the bitter end? During the game there was only one guy in our section booing and he was told to cool it. However, maybe the fans were so discouraged that they didn’t have the psychic energy to boo.

  11. Hog 'n Iowa says:

Not having the opportunity to watch a game in person, I’d like to know from you who have if there’s any area that the Hogs have actually improved on since game #1, almost a month and a half ago? Passing game has not improved, apparently the d line hasn’t improved, probably the secondary has not improved. It would seem like something would have to be better. If not… what are the coaches doing in practice? I hope AU comes in over-confident because if they don’t, and our offensive play selection doesn’t include something to keep their defense off-balance, it’ll be bad.

  12. Bluffhawg says:

I would say the D-Backs have improved slightly, but the degression of the already pathetic offense has more than made up for it.

  13. darrell says:

I think a 6-6 record is real possible. If you want to remain a cut above Vandy,Ole Miss, and Miss St keep HDN around. This is so pathetic and why are playing these Sun Belt Conference Schools so we can play in the Independence Bowl game. And here is some trivia, In the modern era has anyone ever passed for 300yards in a game at Arkansas? 2007 and we haven’t perfected the forward pass.

  14. OwassoHog says:

And the answer is…… those in bold are modern era (i.e. used the timeframe of 1980+ as modern):

    387 Clint Stoerner vs. LSU (18-38, 2 TD, 0 INT), 1997
    345 Joe Ferguson vs. Texas A&M (31-51, 0 TD, 1 INT),
    1971
338 *Bill Montgomery vs. Ole Miss (17-34, 1 TD, 4 INT),
    1969
335 Ronny South vs. Texas Tech (18-33), 1967
    334 Clint Stoerner vs. LSU (27-38, 2 TD, 0 INT), 1998
    325 Clint Stoerner vs. Auburn (20-43, 2 TD, 1 INT), 1997
    316 Clint Stoerner vs. Alabama (24-52, 1 TD, 1 INT), 1999
307 **Brad Taylor vs. North Carolina (14-29, 2 TD,
    0 INT), 1981

    304 Joe Ferguson vs. TCU (20-32, 4 TD, 0 INT), 1972
*1970 Sugar Bowl **1981 Gator Bowl

  15. Jim Daly Sr. says:

    To Hog’n Iowa

The answer to your question is a definate No!

In fact, and I could be off base on this, but I think that Casey Dick has regressed and this regression began at the end of last season. He was a better QB as a freshman than he is now. I think that the problem is not a lack of confidence or experience, but that he is “running scared”. in terms of throwing an interception (the interception in the Mocs game was a tipped pass). What I noticed is that Dick is consistently throwing high and sometimes wide to receivers away friom defenders. Hillis’ had to reach and make an outstanding grab yet there was no defender near him. In other words, Dick’s problem was not consistency but overdoing an effort to keep the ball away from defenders. With one long pass into the end zone he threw late, which meant to me that he had no confidence in his receiver’s ability to separate. I surmise that the reason for this cautiousness is an intense indoctrination to not make mistakes that cause probelms with the running game, which is Nutt football. QBs are there to “manage” the game and not screw things up with sacks, interceptions, and fumbles. Long yardage is difficult to make up by only running the ball. A Woody Hayes emphasis on running requires two things (1) talented running backs, and more important than most fans realize, (2) a dominanant offensive line. This year Arkansas has (1) but not (2). Without (2) you need some creativity in your offense, especially if your passing game is even less than bad.. Now I understand that the Hogs receiving corps is depleted and inexperienced but one can only lay the blame for this on coaches who started out with the idea that they only needed one receiver (Monk) and the rest were decoys and window dressing.

Well, don’t give up hope, Nutt and company may have been playing possum. But, if so,they may have oveplayed their hand because it might have been too obvious to Auburn. Auburn wil probably be expecting some changes in offensive play calling and are probably preparing for it.

  16. darrell(Hog in LA) says:

Thanks OwassoHog, I guess you dance with who you take to the party but McFadden and Jones have got be tired of this song. Jim Daly, Sr maybe you are right and they are playing possum and show some NE Patriots type offensive fire power, because if they can contain Superman(Tebow) enough to win I can’t see our Superman(McFadden/Jones) running up and down the field on them. What is going to make me mad is if Kodi Burns throwns a touchdown pass to win or Lee Ziemba pancakes someone. It is not like Arkansas mass produces D-1 talent every year, you have to keep those guys at home.
