Hogwired.com: Pelphrey Plays for White Team, But Red Wins Game, 84-78

A three-point bucket by head coach John Pelphrey, along with a pair of 20-point outings by Darian Townes and Sonny Weems, wasn’t enough for the White team to overcome a more balanced attack by the Red in Arkansas’ annual team scrimmage on Friday.

The Red got a combined 74 points from Charles Thomas, Stefan Welsh, Vincent Hunter and Levan Patsatsia to post an 84-78 victory over Pelphrey and the White unit.

  1. I think after they watch some film of last night’s contest though that Pel may have some extra running to do. There were severl times that he didn’t get back on defense like he should have. ;)

    Fun times.

I was pleasently surprised by the shooting of Britt and Patsa last night from three point land. I had no idea that those two could shoot that well.

Hogs are 19th in the first ESPN/USA Toady Coaches poll:

It’s kind of hard to get a grasp of what this team really has to offer with 4 players out of the game. Rakestraw is the only one who hasn’t had exstensive playing time. Even with that being said, he was still exspected to contribute to the team as an outside shooting threat. I like the fact that Coach Pelphrey stepped in and played. I think it shows not only his committment to this team, but also his passion for the game. I like his leadership, and it’s a great example for the team. I also like the fact that he is interested in these kids as men first and players last. This will carry over into everything they do for the rest of their life. Keep up the good work coach, I’m looking forward to the season!
