Hogwired.com: Pelphrey Signs Six Future Hogs During Early Recruiting Period

Arkansas head basketball coach John Pelphrey took a huge step toward replacing the six seniors on this year’s team with the signing of six players to national letters of intent during the early signing period, which ended on Wednesday.

[...] “We’re excited about this class,” Pelphrey says. “Our assistants did a very good job of getting us involved with good players who are high-character guys. This is an important class because of what we are losing. All of them have the chance to make an immediate impact their first season. We talked about that during the recruiting process.”

Wow! Coach Pelphrey got Christmas on Thanksgiving signing Clarke and Payne in the 11th hour Wednesday. No doubt, the best recruiting class in recent memory…one that may very well rank in the top 5.

I agree Sunshine. The combination of Clarke and Fortson are huge. I think Fortson would get the nod at PG, with his ball-handling skills, and his ability to drive and score in the lane, and tenatious defense, but Clarke was probably recruited more for his shooting ability than his ball-handling skills, so I think you could very well see him move over to the 2 spot and become a great 3-point shooter. Also, with joyner added to the mix, as a combo-guard, you have all kinds capable ball-handling, skill guys, at those positions. Next year, with Washington and Sanchez carrying the load, our other Clark (Andre) should fit in nicely. With his athletic ability, he should be able to run the floor well. I think he’s a sleeper. Payne is supposed to be a very good 3-point shooter, and is an agressive rebounder as well. Great athlete. Moore is awesome on the boards, and at shot-blocking, and can step out and hit the 3 if needed. With a healthy Nate Rakestraw, and P. Beverly coming back as a Jr.,the Hogs will have legitamate pure shooters on this team. I think Coach Pelphrey and his staff did their homework, and I believe they’ll only get better and better. GO HOGS GO!!!!!
