Hogwired.com: Hogs Handle Press and VCU as No. 18 Arkansas Tops Rams

Two days and a few practices after turning the ball over 32 times in a loss to Providence, No. 18 Arkansas committed just 17 against Virginia Commonwealth’s press as the Razorbacks closed the O’Reilly Auto Parts Puerto Rico Tip-Off with a 70-60 victory on Sunday.

Hey what did you guys think about the game last night. I don’t think they have made it to Nolans 40min of Hell yet. I just get the feeling this team might fall short of what was and is expected of them with what I saw yesterday. It just seemed like something was missing and maybe its just me but I just can’t see VCU staying with us with the talent we have on this team.

  2. I think it’s going to take Coach a while to get them to play like he wants them to play. The sloppy play, and lack of zone busting, three point shooting looked a lot like what we saw from this bunch last year.

They’ll get there…it just may take him most of the non-conference season to get them out of some bad habits.

What impressed me more was how Coach handled the sloppy play. My practicing them twice on Saturday I’m sure sent a clear message. I also noticed how he dealt with Welsh and Towns during the game. Coach takes no crapola. I like his enthusiasm and intensity as well. He will either get them in playing his way or there mght be a few less players before the end of the season. I like him already

Mike, you are spot on—–this guy (Pelphrey) is the boss and all the players know it. I saw that he said something to the effect that he was benching anyone that could not control the ball and if it was embarrassing to them, he did not care! I love the guy already. With the current state of affairs in football, I hope we love Pelphrey just as much when the new has well and truly worn off.

There’s no doubt, Pelphrey’s on the right track. These guys still have a long way to go, but old habits are hard to break for anyone. Pelphrey look’s like he’s going to be steadfast on any given situation, but the players will have to learn to accept a little, or a lot of humility along the way. They’ll get there if it take’s all season, as far as there HC is concerned. GO HOGS GO!!!!!

I just thought in case someone might be wondering, about what was going on with the Hogs basketball recruiting, that Rotnie Clarke officially committed to be a Hog, Wed. night at 10:00 P.M. I was really hoping we would get this kid, and was glad to see he did what I thought he was going to do. This kid can really light it up from the 3-point arc! Good job recruiting in your 1st year as the “Boss Hog” John Pelphrey. You have done an excellent job already! GO HOGS GO!!!!!
