Hogwired.com: Houston Nutt Weekly Press Conference — LSU Game
Nutt: “We had some little preliminary discussions and we have some more coming this week. We’ll wait until that time to see what comes out of it. Again, right now, I’m excited. Chancellor (John A.) White and Coach (Frank) Broyles want me here. They want me to stay and that’s a good feeling and I’m excited about that.
“(The prelim discussions) were just with Chancellor White right now. Jeff Long was still at the LSU game and he had relatives there, so we’ll wait until this week, about mid-week when he gets back, and have some more formal discussions.”

I told you guys this was going to happen this morning. Nutt is already lobbying to Jeff Long before he even get’s back from visiting with his family. I hope Jeff Long has the guts to do the right thing, and blow Nutt completely out of the water. My worst fear, is that Jeff Long is nothing more of a cronie to Broyles and White. If so, we’re screwed again!
He also mentioned Jimmy Johnson doesn’t want the job because it is too difficult. He is such a showman. Take folks a long time to see through the bs.
Puts all the pressure on the new guy because Houston has announced Frank and John want him to stay.
[...] has a good article on Houston Nutt’s Sunday afternoon press conference. (Thanks to razorbloggers.net for the [...]
this program missed it’s chance at becoming big time because of the ego of one houston dale nutt.
we will never see a backfield as lethal as darren, felix, and peyton again.
all that was missing was a little comprehension of an offensive gameplan, and a quarterback to keep the opposing defenses honest.
we had those key ingredients in gus malzahn and mitch mustain.
imagine the lanes that would have opened for those backs in a spread formation with a true deep ball threat at the quarterback spot.
and imagine having damian williams as the sure handed replacement for monk.
think about what d-mac could do if the linebackers were forced back 2 to 3 yards to respect the pass.
how many touchdowns would d-mac have if the saftey’s were back in coverage rather than on run killing blitzes or playing shallow enough to appear as an extra linebacker.
all this was not possible, it would have happened if houston was not so small minded and self-centered.
i do not have ill feelings for houston.
i wish him well.
i hope he falls before that god of his, and asks for his heart and hands to be cleansed.
and then, i wish he would do the right thing and just except the best offer out there.
so we, the fans and this university can be cleansed also.
so we can all be allowed to heal.
I agree with all semohawg has to say on this. He has now stated they love me and want me to stay, making it public that it would be Long who has the monkey on his back. We had chances all the time he was here, he is too simple minded and will never allow Arkansas to be who it could be if he stays. His record over ALL his time here should be looked at and what shame he has brought to the WHOLE Program by what he has done. Beating LSU is nice, but I noticed he didn’t prepare the next years guys for any playing time either or experience that much. Now he can BLAME that for the problems he’ll have then. With Mitch, Gus, and the others, I do think we could have been better. But we could have been better also if he had a gameplan a 12 year old couldn’t prepare for. Stack the box. This guy cannot develop a whole team and only parts are successful. I am happy for the team, university and the win, I do not hate Nutt, I only want to see him happy somewhere else as he limits us moving forward. I am not happy where we’ll be if we allow him to stay. We lost to teams that should have been beaten this year, and the past also under his helm. Damn JJ (Jimmy Johnson), PLEASE come or somebody that can move and motivate and develop a Team back to the winning ways we used to have. We did win several SWC championships, we never have the SEC. We should have by now and I think his chances should be over. Let’s move past Nutt and go on. I do so hope that LONG is ready for some changes to move forward. Does ANYONE have the email addresses for Chancellor White and the others there so we can email them on how we feel and why?
Well I don’t agree with the idea that Gus and Mitch would have made that big of an impact this year first off Mitch still has to have a reciever to throw to and we didn’t have many options and as quickly as a reciever emerged the quicker they fell due to injuries. Secondly gus still has to run the play by HDN. I don’t think HDN or his coaches should be kept and my main reason for that is when I look at the kid Jackson who is starting qb for the Vikeings and MJones Reciever for the Jaguars and to think we had them both here and we made one a qb and ran the other off. That just lets me know someone doesn’t know how to evaluate talent. We have not won a conference championship in 10year not to mention a NChampionship. I just don’t think that is exceptable with all the NFL caliber players we have been producing.
Anoymous, I too saw the scroll on my tv in the office and can’t wait . It’s like Christmas has come early. There are so many openings out there Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, and Southern Miss coach Jeff Bower just resigned he can go somewhere else. The team next year will have no DMAC, Felix or Hillis. We need someone to cultivate and move the program into a new direction. If he comes back next year, we are just going to be suffering through another year of pee wee football. 430pm pt I am going to tune in.
Darrell(Hog in LA), Your not going to believe this, but Fox Sports reported at 2:00 P.M., that Nutt is out. That’s right, they actually said he has been let go, and the university will make an official announcement at 6:30 P.M., CST. I hope their right. I’m sick and tired of rumors. If it’s true, then maybe I was wrong about Jeff Long. Please, let me be wrong.

Looks like the program wins big today!!
Too bad the New England Patriots will be replacing Belichick and Brady with Malzahn and Mustain. Maybe we could’ve got them back after Nutt’s gone.
With all the controversy that Nutt has brought to the Razorbacks, I think he can be credited for putting Razorback football back on the map. I’m not that old, but I can remember when we were a total joke. Even though he has totally botched some terrific opportunities, I would like to think he has had the best intentions for the players and the program.
Gonzo, if this is true then all of us need to rejoice. I was sitting at mother’s house in LIttle Rock over the Thanksgiving weekend listening to this clown on FOX 16 talking about the Nutt Haters and how it would be exciting to play in the freaking Cotton Bowl and our expectings are too unrealistic. Get out of here man! For them to make this announcement today says alot.
HOGFAN23, I don’t think Nutt brought the controversy, it was a small number of so called fans that blew things out of proportion, along with Arkansas’ media that doesn’t have enough to report on. Coaches and players leave programs all the time due to differences in expecations. It’s too bad that the player and coach involved happen to be talented; but it happens.
I agree that Nutt should be gone, but not due to the controversy, his win/loss record is enough for me. But I do think he was treated VERY unfairly by Arkansans by the constant rumor-based criticism and ridiculous cell phone record incident.
For the small group of fans and media that managed to run Nutt off, I hope you’re happy. You can bet that no big name coach would want to step into the Arkansas snake pit.
No doubt about it darrell, even the administration knows you can’t continue with this clown and his politically correct BS. It is NOT unrealistic to want a coach to evaluate talent correctly, recruit players that will accomidate a balanced offense, and show them that you are committed to the future of the program, by using them the way you promised when you brought them in. Taking Frank out of position was the first step, and amazingly, it look’s as if the second step is already in place. Mississippi made a mistake not retaining Orjeron for another season. He may not have won any games in the SEC, but he was competitive with all of the top SEC talent until a breakdown accured with the Hogs. This happened with a lot less talent than the Hogs had, and I hope the Rebels come calling on Nutt. He is what they deserve.
win is a win, I understand your way of thinking, but you also have to consider the fact that Nutt seems to find a way to bring this redicules attention to himself, and it’s not so much the fans have created a snakepit, than it is Frank Broyles creating one by letting this guy hang around for 10 years. That old saying “enough is enough” should come to mind when referring to this administration as a whole. I would say Frank is more responsible than anyone, if you want to single someone out.
Gonzo, I agree with you Frank Broyles created and maintain this Soap Opera for 10 years. The whole idea that we can’t do better and we should be happy with these average at best results is crazy. Win, win you can continue to support Nutt at another university. People are always afraid of change but sometimes it is neccesary and this will good for Nutt and Arkansas.
win is a win, go ahead and believe that this was a small group of fans. However, I’m fully convinced that it wasn’t. In fact, White didn’t want to believe that it was but as this year unfolded, he was forced into believing that there was much more distaste for Nutt that he believe. This was the only viable option in moving forward.
As for Houston, I don’t believe that he intended for this to get out of hand as it has but it did and most of the blame is squarely on his shoulders as he was digging so hard to get out of his grave it just got deeper and deeper and he didn’t know what to do but dig faster.
As for Frank, he’s just as clueless as he has been with dealing with EXISTING coaches.
You are correct that 10 years was more than enough to realize that Houston wasn’t getting the job done. However, I’m not convinced that the soap opera wasn’t enough to do him in too. Remember, Houston quit on us ONCE already!
KOTV in Tulsa says that Houston will NOT coach the bowl game. While I’m totally in agreement that Houston needs to go, he should be allowed to coach the final game but maybe this was his choice.
Herring will coach the bowl game… oh well… I guess the streak continues!
Most of you here wanting Nutt out make me want to vomit. Who in the hell is going to want to come coach here now? All it takes is some of the players Mommies and a bunch of wanna-be Razorbacks to force the coach out. The Razorback fans are the freaking laughing stock of the country right now. I currently live and Dallas and the radio stations here are essentially laughing their butts off at you morons. Today was a terrible day for the Hogs. Thanks a lot you idiots.
Wow….I’ve been reading some of the previous post on this blog. You should rename this “RazorbackHaters.com” No respect for history. No respect for tradition. No respect for the Razorbacks. You people are an embarrassment. Hey…I hear Phil Bennett is available (he was the HC fired from SMU). Maybe we will get him. Or Chan-freaking-Gailey. Would that make you guys happy. How about Coach Fran. Maybe Ted Roof who was just canned from Duke. Man I’m pissed off right now.
Dallas Hog—not very nice, and wrong!
DallasHog, looks like that lobotomy finally took! When is the last time you attended a Razorback football game - 1964? Don’t feel sorry for Nutt… he just walked away with some EASY money by quitting the Razorbacks that’s why they are laughing! Go figure!
T-towner……Was not intended to be nice….but was very correct.
I am usually only able to go to 2 or 3 games a year as it’s a bit difficult for me living in Dallas. If I could afford it I would go it every game but it’s not possible for me at this time. I don’t think that makes me less of a fan.
FYI….they are laughing at you guys. Not the money. You guys took down a head football coach. Congrats.
houstn nutt fell into the same thing as any coach on the hill.just look at who they run off.nolan,sutton,hatfield,holts..if you don’t play to the money then by by..
maybe the new blood we have coming in will let ark st and the hogs play
the fit for arkansas football is tommy
