Leave it to Houston to be Croomed before he is Croomed!

I can’t say that it’s about time cause it is way past time! Maybe, just maybe, they will spend some bucks to get a quality coach or get just get lucky with a rising star.

I just hope chancellor White isn’t too involved with it. With everything going on at the UofA right now, I don’t take anything for granted with him having the final word. Jeff Long is an advisor to him currently, and will not take over his future duties until after Jan. 1st. If a search committee is put together or hired before then, it means were right back to the same ‘ol circus we’ve seen before. Mr. ultra clean (I need to take a shower) White, and Pa Paw Broyles themselves, making the decisions that Long will have to live with. Of course, this is only speculation, but I still don’t trust them. It’s like putting a couple of old crafty foxes in a hen house, while the hens are roosting up above, and expect nothing to happen while your sleeping. I’m hoping for the best, but I’ve been doing this since Lou Holtz was here, so I really don’t have any confidence in Broyles doing the right thing, and “ditto” for White, after the E-Mail soap opera. Hopefully, if a search committee is hired again, as a last ditch option, we’ll get lucky, like we did with John Pelphery.

We first heard the rumors of HDN’s departure while at the deer camp. It was neat to tell each one as they came in from their hunt what the rumor was. Without exception everyone we shared with said, “good glad he is leaving.” I don’t know that I have ever been so excited about a coach leaving. And now it seems like all it was was rumors. I guess now we will spend the next few weeks on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Nutts leaving, no he’s staying, yes he’s leaving no he’s staying. I’m glad I dont have ulcers.

    I’m ready to party like it’s 2012!

  5. Hawgfan100 on November 17th, 2007 6:35 pm

And pay for it until 2012?

  6. Taxhawg on November 17th, 2007 7:22 pm

I’m just ready for the soap opera to be over. Personally, I think Nutt’s done pretty well when compared to the coaches before him, Ford, Kines, and Crowe.

I think it is unrealistic to expect top-10 every year, but I don’t think it is unrealistic to win the SEC West every 3-5 years. Could the play calling be better? Uhm, let’s see…it’s 4th and 1, 100k fans in the stadium knows Peyton Hillis is getting the ball - as does the roughly 2 million who are watching on tv, lo, and behold, he does get the ball and is stopped short. So, yeah, it could have been better.

Assuming Nutt leaves, I’d like to see the Tulsa staff come over here and have some fun with the talent that is on campus.

In some ways, this situation reminds me of a couple of situations at my old job during my time there (Sunshine knows who I’m talking about), supposedly a couple of guys were going to be fired, Lord knows they deserved to be fired and in my estimation they should have been fired long before it happened. My attitude was (and is with Nutt), “I’ll believe it when it happens.” In both of those cases - those guys did eventually get fired, so maybe, just maybe, this will all soon be over and we can all turn the page.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that’s thinking about what that Tulsa staff could do at the U of A, at the very least it would be really fun to watch.

[...] Casey Dick throws for four TDs (!) and the Hogs enjoy a much-needed win over Mississippi State in Little Rock. Still, the rumors about Houston Nutt’s fate are getting louder and louder. [...]

    Points to ponder, maybe.
    Remember the Golden Rule.
He who has the gold , or knows where to get it, makes the rules. That would be Frank. If Chuck Dicus is serious about hiring Frank and Frank accepts (and he will), he will have a tremendous advantage over the new AD with the University’s big contributors, and lets just say that White will tighten his hands on the reins of UA athletics, specifically football. How long does anyone guess that we will have an AD named Long? Here’s another night terror for you. If Nutt should stay in the system as a whatever, whose to say that during the White-Broyles shuffle that Nutt won’t rise to the position of AD.

I’d like to see Gus head the team with his own staff.
At very least he would improve in-state recruiting.

  11. GonzoHog on November 18th, 2007 8:05 pm

You couldn’t be more right about the recruiting Curt. Gus has had a big influence with some of the state’s best teams. They are either going to a spread offense, HUNH, or somthing very close to it. If you want to get a good dose of it this weekend, then try to attend the Greenwood/Camden Fairview playoff game, in Camden. Greenwood is the defending 2 time state champ in 5A, and Farview has a QB, and a RB coming to the UofA next year. Greenwood just beat Pulaski Acadamy Friday night, 57-50, to advance to the semi’s. P.A. also has a WR coming to the UofA next year. All of these teams have wide open, passing offenses, that attack the CBs., especially Greenwood. Coach Rick Jones and Gus are supposed to be pretty good friends, and Coach Jones’s QB, Tyler Wilson, is going to play for Tulsa next season. Emagine that! He was offered scholerships by Nick Saban,(Bama) Houston Nutt,(Ark) Mike Stoops,(AZ) and Les Miles(LSU). I don’t remember the coaches names, but California and Missouri were looking at him too. Gus is just getting started, I promise you!

This would be my dream situation Brent Venables Head Coach and Gus offensive Coordinator, either one of them are on the fast track. Then we go and get Charlie Strong at Florida currently Co-Defensive Coordinator and Arkansas native. We could recruit Florida, Arkansas, and Texas and get some JC talent as well. If I hear the name Glen Mason, I might just tune out Arkansas football for awhile.

  13. Curt in Fayetteville on November 21st, 2007 7:27 pm

Does anyone have any credible news about a
“short list” of coaches the UofA might be looking at?

  14. GonzoHog on November 22nd, 2007 12:39 am

Haven’t heard anything of the sort Curt, and I have to tell you that I don’t exspect to either. I exspect this to be a “hush-hush” affair, right up until the last minute. Something tells me it’s happening as we speak, weather it’s Nutt’s agent trying to find him another home, or the UofA Officials secretly assembling a list. All of this could be happening right now, but realistically, I don’t look for a search committee to begin a search until the season is over. LSU should, and probably will make turkey nutts out of us tommorrow, but even so, we’ll probably make it to a lower-tier bowl. If they (UA officials) do it the right way, they’ll start this journey before the bowl game is even played, but won’t officially come out with a short list until Jeff Long has acquired his A.D. duties, after the 1st of Jan. I exspect to hear somthing within a week after the 1st, but it really doesn’t matter to me, just as long as the “nutt” is gone!

I think it is unrealistic for Razorback fans to insist on a national championship and then want a coaches head if it doesn’t happen. Sure , it would be great, but be realistic - we are not the school that has the talent resources for that.

Coach Nutt gave us the closest season that we have come to that goal in a very long time. That success came from our team and coaching staffs heart plain and simple
I’m sick of a few vocal people wanting Coach Nutt gone. He is doing a great job and doing it with class. It’s just a shame that his supporters aren’t as vocal as his foes.

  16. Steve on November 25th, 2007 12:06 pm

I wonder how Nutt haiters would feel about Nutt going to LSU when Miles leaves. Everyone is all for Nutt leaving if it is for some nobody like Baylor or SMU but how would everyone feel if Houston went to LSU and beat us bloody every year.

  17. Curt in Fayetteville on November 25th, 2007 11:10 pm

Hey Steve, I say let him go. Now, the Nutthuggers might like
to see him beat us bloody because they would rather see him
win than see our beloved HOGS be successful.
What will you, the huggers, say when
Nutt and your new favorite team {LSU) get beat down by the HOGS and a new coach who can win consistantly year after
year without needing a rebuilding period every other year.
ie. Being able to get AND KEEP in state recruits
