Sweet. Proven winner. Should have had the job the first time he interviewed.

Lets not do this again. We made fools out of ourselves in the spring by believing in every leak that came out about a big name coach. I still don’t see this happening but I’d love to be wrong. A big name coach who is from in the stae. Would be perfect for us.
We’re idiots. Who in their right mind drags their family into the cesspool we’ve created.
6 million dollar buyout to Auburn if Tuberville come to Arkansas. I do not see him coming to Arkansas. I do see the prices of tickets skyrocketing though.
Anyone else think it’s funny that the only people saying him coming is fact are television stations?
They were not wrong when they said Houston was leaving or that he was going to Ole Miss?
itonlyagame,
I don’t think I’ve seen a more true, concise statement through this whole thing. We are idiots and this is a cesspool. Why whould Tubbs leave Auburn. There is absolutley no benefit to it. He is using us the way Billy G did in order to get what he wants and we are falling for it again. He’s in the middle of contract negotiations for god sakes.
[...] what’s happened in the past 24 hours, check out the collection of links at the Hawg Blawg and Razorbloggers Network. From an Auburn perspective, our friend Jerry at the Joe Cribbs Car Wash is feeling a bit queasy [...]
I can’t see it happening, Auburn is breaking the bank for his guy. Why would he leave them for us, Auburn could feasibiy play for a National Championship game with all of that talent in a few years. This is going to be a surprise hire that no one will see coming, just like AD Long.
I just got back from Montgomery yesterday and the local news is reporting that they may lose Tubberville to Arkansas.
Fans and media there seem genuinely concerned because
of his contract requests, which by the way, are for things the
U of A already has (new facilities, better pay for his assistants) etc. It’s not always about money.
AD Long to his credit is keeping it close to the vest until he finds HIS man. I agree that one can expect tickets to soar if UA has to pay Auburn $6 million to get a release or whatever the deal is unless everyone ups their giving to cover it. Some suggest Cowboy Jones will assist greatly. Could be but I would not count on it. There is a huge elephant in the State of Alabama’s room that will make Tubby’s recruiting job harder in Alabama. However, both schools are near loads of talent. I do not know whether that concerns him or not but it will be different with Lou S. in the room. One person stated that Razorback fans are doing well with just $35 per game tickets compared to others such as the Vols. I am afraid that is pricing a lot of fans out of the market, but there again the price of gas is high and drivers do not seem to follow the speed limit and save gas money…most on the highway appear not to mind. So, perhaps everyone is doing exceedingly well and will gladly accept the increases, when they come.
It certainly will not be inexpensive even if they were able to get, or even wanted, ones such as Chow and Kiffin. The whole sports scene is getting bad for many fans, but fans just keep on digging down and paying whatever the market asks out of them.
It may be time to rid the college scene of this madness .
“itsonlyagame” - you are correct most sports fans are somewhat idiots and that is pro and otherwise.
Tuberville is supposed to talk with Auburn officials Sunday. I wonder if this means we’ll back off of him, or try and re-negotiate to get him to sign a contract with us earlier. Either way, it will come down to the highest bidder. Didn’t he already do this one time in Dec.of ‘97? If Miles goes to Michigan, word is now that LSU will go after Spurrier. This could get real interesting.

If most sports fans are idiots, what are you doing on a sports blog?

Reason rules: There are exceptions to every thing!
Man! that pretty much sums it up. I’m glad we know who the exception is. Who are the other exceptions DWC, the ones who agree with you, or the one’s you agree with?
itsonlyagame, It’s amazing that you can look in the mirrior, and see blame to the point of saying “we are idiots.” The idiots are in the administration, who created this big mess. It’s no different than what Bush and his “big buisiness policy” agenda is doing to this country. They throw you a bunch of garbage, and exspect you to eat it, because they don’t think your smart enough to know the difference anyway. Even if you are smart enough to figure it out, they know your powerless to do anything about it. This country is ran by power / money hungery polotitians, lawyers, and judges. Without all of the corruption these people have created, we would still be the “land of the free,” but it’s not the same anymore, just like the UofA football program, with Broyles and White in control.
Oh migosh:
I actually find myself agreeing with DWC. Oh, I forgot what is was. Oh, OK. now I remember. If Tuberville does come to Arkansas it wil be because of two things. 1. recruiting. Not only does Arkansas have first dibs on in-state recruits, but in case anybody has failed to notice Arkansas is in proximity to Western Tennessee, Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas City, and Northern Louisiana, all great sources for out-of state talent. Nolan did very well with recruits from Memphiis and there is no reason that a Razorback Football coach can’t do the same. 2. Tuberville may think that with that recruiting base he can eventually win the SEC Championship, something Nutt failed to do
Here’s where I agree with DWC. At Auburn Tuberville has to recruit against Alabama and even against UAB and upcoming Troy State. (If Troy State continues its rise in football success I predict that that they will soon move up again, probably to Conference USA). Tuberville now has to compete against N. Saban, whose players are now leading LSU as evidence of Saban’s previous recruiting expertise. (Saban, however, no longer has the advantage of a one state institution and we’ll have to see if he can duplicate his LSU performance at Alabama). Tuberville’s biggest attraction at the moment for Auburn, in the face of a “mediocre” record (mediocre for Auburn, that is) is his beating “Bama, beating Bama, beating Bama and so on.
Tuberville is not my first choice, but what do I know? Watching the Auburn game was like watching two sumo wrestlers puching each other around, except that it lasted longer. I was, however, impressed with the way Campbell developed as a QB at Auburn and he is now starting for the Redskins, so Tuberville does know how to uitlize a QB other than for handing off and staying out of trouble. There is no doubt, in my mind, that Tommy T. is a better coach than Nutt. I would agree that it’s going to come down to money. If T. T. is offered the right amount and takes the job then be prepared to see teleconferences where the theme will be that it is his challenge to bring Arkansas an SEC championship. Tuberville will also have a grace period to rebuild, an attitude which is presently absent at Auburn for next year.
Oh, by the way DWC, NIce to know your an exception to being an idiot. Are there any other definitions that fit? Judge not lest ye yourself will be judged. (or something like that).
My vote is for Lane Kiffin. He has the tools, the contacts and the energy to make the most of the opportunity. If he brought his dad in as DC, or kept Herring, and added Norm Chow as OC, that would be a winning team!
i’d go for Kiffin too…let’s hope he can bring some quality assistants along (and that THEY have some great recruits up their sleeves).
Unwise comment, Daly. Now if you want to go head to head on theology, I would love it but the rest may get bored, but it sure would be an enlightening session…much better than what the blog is about. Already you have given me the impression that you have a very misinformed impression on perhaps what my pastor, who has a doctorate degree, states is perhaps the most misquoted scripture in the Bible, which is “Judge not that you be not judged.” The secular world and some in the Christian world loves to quote that one but they know not what it actually is talking about. It has to be studied in context along with the other precepts and principles taught in the Bible. With all of the judging of Houston, it is strange that anyone would even enter into that realm which is the kind of judging that the Scripture is dealing with. I could care less whether anyone judges me on earth since all on earth are an imperfect judge whereas my Judge is a perfect, omnipotent Judge, the only One with authority in heaven and upon earth, and the only one to be concerned with. Christ is the King, the perfect Judge, who will come again, rule, and judge the world. Interestingly, almost every single blogger on this site has judged Houston Nutt for a sin where there is absolutely no proof that he committed, and even if he did, no one on earth is his Maker and therefore not his judge. As Ivan Maisel of ESPN correctly stated, Houston was judged by a small minority of fans who had no proof whatsoever of his culpability to the sin. As Maisel correctly wrote, he was judged purely on rumor. Vicious rumoring is sad and can destroy as his detractors apparently intended, and rumor is very hard to defend. One day perhaps you will be able to experience it. I hope not but it would be, shall we say, “A life lesson that you will never forget. I had a boss who went through that, won, but came out scared. Also, I had a co-worker who went through it with a false accusation of Sexual Harassment and he was ultimately saved from firing whenever another female came forth and witnessed that she overheard a few females stating in private, “Let’s get him,” It nearly destroyed him but he arose out of the false accusation and he holds a much higher office within the organization. Emotionally, it still affects people at times long after the event occurred. Some would call that a type of PTSD. Understand, God does not cause confusion. According to the Bible, satin is the author of confusion. Houston’s only sin of record with the few who wanted him gone was losing the last four games of 2006, including the bowl game, to four teams ranked numbers 5, 4, 3, and 1. That is an excellent record. If you believe in the star system, which I have the impression many critics on this blog appear to believe, Houston’s evaluation of talent was excellent with so called no stars, 1 star, and 2 star athletes with a few number 3’s and 4’s thrown in for good measure. I do not recall one recruiting guru listing D-Mac or Jones at no. 5. Nevertheless, according to the gurus his recruits did not stack up high. As Lou Holtz and Kenny Hatfield use to say, outside evaluators do not know our Arkansas talent and needs. They generally do not get the notoriety, as ones in Florida and other high profile states. A few did get some notoriety. Houston and his staff with their eye for talent, did an excellent job.
Campbell of Auburn is a senior, whereas C. Dick has no more than two partial years and this year. He really is not actually equal to a junior in playing time, although he definitely has improved, as he commenced getting help from players returning at close to full recovery from injuries. Arkansas had more numero uno players available for the LSU game than they had available for a long time.
DWC
Sports blog. Focus, Sporrrrrrts Bloooooooggggg!
Also same players that were difference makers in LSU game were available at the beginning of the year. Difference, it took our coaches 11 games to figure it out. HDN was a great motivator. I am selfish a want a great motivator and a great strategist.
Also if you noticed, LSU’s quarterback was hurt during game and Holiday was out and there defense is not near as good without Dorsey. Check out the rushing yards Ole Miss put on them.
Hey Pitt beat West Virginia. Anything can happen on any given Saturday. Hey the movie was “Any Given Sunday”……..
Exscuse me if I don’t say this in precise perfect manner, as the Bible would quote it, but doesn’t it say somewhere in there that we reap what we sow? Maybe I’m wrong, but it was alway’s my impression that every man make’s what he is, not what other men make him. Houston Nutt made himself an Old Miss Rebel, because he failed to do the job on a consistant basis, with bad calls, no offensive balance, and no disapline in his players. To say that he is a great coach is said with just as much speculation (judgement) as one who say’s the opposite. There is no fact presented on either side of the issue, if we are to get that technical. What’s next? Psycology, or triganomitry / Advanced Geomitry diagrams that will show us how to go from point A to point B, by traveling 15 miles to cover 1? What’s the bottom line here DWC? Why don’t you just come out and say you believe your smarter than everyone else, and stop beating around the bush by saying “read it again!” ” I didn’t say that - blah, blah, blah.” I can’t wait to here your next response. Maybe you could write a book this time.
DWC, personally, I’m getting tired of this line that Houston did more with 0, 1, 2, and 3 stars recruits (no offense) - this may be the case but you play the game to win! Having an “average” team year in and year out just doesn’t do much for most folks.
So, at the end of the season, winning is what it is all about. Kind of of reminds me of a line from the movie Facing the Giants - it goes like this… Well, ’cause at the end of the season, nobody wants to be on TV going, “We’re number six, baby. We’re number six.
Certainly, I can appreciate that Houston (or somebody else) is getting more with less than others but in 10 years we don’t have a single SEC championship. In my opinion, I believe that we had the talent to do so these last 2 years but it just didn’t happen. So, I place full blame on the Head Coach.
Migosh, I make one little statement and it starts a theological discourse and a lecture on sexual harrasssment. I didn’t quote the Bible. If I had I would have used quotation marks and cited the source. I quoted Daly, which is my version of the sentiment which remains the same. But getting back to football and the Razorback quandry. I am laughing at all the finger pointing that’s going on about Nutt’s departure. This is becoming an industry. If those of you still want to believe that the decision fo get rid of Nutt was White’s then go ahead ’cause it’s a free country. If you want to think that White can call up the Razorback Foundation and say, “I want to get rid of Nutt. I’ll need 3.5 mil to do it. Put it in the bank tomorrow.” To which the Foundation says, :”Yes massa, we’ll get on that right away, sir, Captain, Bossman.”. Get real. For those of you who have White derangement syndrome, I suggest counseling.
The Demo-Gazette had an interesting column by Wally Hall where ole Wally is trying to deflect criticism from himself by putting the blame on White. Wally has been primarily guilty (in the eyes of Nutt fans) by expressing the attitudes and desires of the powers that be, i.e. the ones who have the money, as well as more than a few Razorback fans. However, for Sunday’s edition, Wally should have known better than to write a column before getting sober. He blames White for running off Blair, the women’s basketball coach, who found success elsewhere. Ahem, Wally, White knows didley squat about basketball of any kind. It was the AD (Broyles) who made that decision.** Look, White is more like Scott McClellan, the former White House Press Representative. He makes announcements, not policy. His job is to explain the policies. He says at press conferences what will be the most prudent, expedient thing to say, whether spinning or not. White also acts as a go-between on negotiations. The Razorback Foundation obviously has enough sugar daddies to exert its will. .White didn’t screw anything up that wasn’t already screwed up and It should have been obvious as to how much power White has when he turned the Mustain mess over to Broyles. That type of situation was, in act, Broyles’ job. Broyles screwed it up, if anybody screwed it up, which in my humble opinion, was a situation where once it got out of hand then no one was capable of fixing it .
Wally’s column was emphatic about the assistant coaches not coaching the bowl game and that those coaches will lure (steal) Arkansas recruits away. Wally’s hyperbole got the best of him when he said that this year’s class was going to be the savior of the Razorback program (Wally, better quit drinking that bad shine). I wasn’t aware that his years’ class was highly ranked nationally. Or that going to ole Miss was going to be a big attraction for the in-state recruits. I would imagine that the recruits’ coaches and parents are telling the kids to wait it out to see who the next coach will be. Insofar as Herring and the other assistants not doing their best to win the bowl game, that is incomprehensable to me. This is Reggie’s opportunity to show what he can do as a head coach. If the ‘Backs look bad, Herring’s resume for a future head coaching job will take a hit. Wally’s suggestion that there were volunteer coaches’ around who could fill in was moronic. Who was he thinking of? Broyles? (Maybe Malzhan knows some smart high school guys). In my sinister and supicious mind, I find this a win-win situation for anti-Nutt fans. If Reggie and the boys win , then that’ something that Nutt has failed to do in recent years. If they lose, well, Reggie didn’t try hard enough. I would think that Nutt and company would be more worried about the Ole Miss recruits and what they will do more than those coming to Arkansas. Maybe that’s why they’re runnning off to Mississippi for a week.
Wally is trying fo deflect and protect by changing the conversation. Poor Wally, this is not your grandfather’s era. It’s the era of the internet, e-mails and bloggers who do have an effect. Relative to this is Kane Webb’s editorial, not the one regarding Orville Henry, but the one on the main editorial page where he dismissively thinks that you people expressing your opinions here are wasting your time and that those opinions themselves are not worthwhile. One has to understand that journalists hate the internet because they are open to criticism and they are not in total control (and this includes sportswriters). They have an inflated opinion of themselves, but are many times not as all knowing, or more importantly, as intelligently analytical, as many of the bloggers and the one’s who run the bloggs. Screw Kane. He is the worst editorial writer at the Demo-Zette. (His article on Henry wasn’t bad, mainly because most of it was quoting Henry).
**In my paranoic view of liberal academics, I would posit that one reason for the firing of Blair and hiring a woman, might have been due to pressure from the gender fanatics at the University, as well, as some prominent equal opportunity women involved with the Razorback Foundation. Just a hunch, may just be coincidence, but to paraphrase someone else, our greated enemies are University English and other Humanities Departments, Hollywood, the Taliban, and Al Queda, in exactly that order.
The University of Arkansas opened practiced today for their January 1st bowlgame. Without a coaching staff, the team gathered at Casey Dick’s house in Allen, Texas near Dallas. The offense workout in the backyard while the defense used the frontyard. The special teams units played basketball in the Dick’s driveway. Razorback center Jonathan Lugis said, “We didn’t get too physical today because alot of the guys forgot their helmets.” In a spirited throwdown game of rock, paper, sissors, Mattreal Richardson bested Casey Dick and will quarterback the razorbacks in the second quarter. “Man, I always wanted to play QB since the 7th grade. Now I get to and in a bowl game!” After practice the team met in the Dick’s garage for a film session. Casey’s mom passed out graham crackers and juice boxes. Guard Robert Felton said, “We watched about five minutes of out opponent and then somebody slipped in the VCR “Weekend at Bernie’s”. Dude, that is one funny movie!”
In a related matter, Arkansas AD Jeff Long said the Razorbacks briefly had a head coach earlier in the day when Millsaps College Colonels (D-III) head coach, Mike Shula agreed to take the job. But not for long. AD Long said “He called back about two hours later and said his wife kept ranting about airplanes with banners, F.O.I.A.’s and to make a long story short told him he couldn’t go.” Long said he would spend some time today looking through resumes on MONSTER.COM but he wasn’t going to let it “ruin my weekend.” Former Governor Mike Huckabee answer columist Wally Hall’s call for volunteer coaches. “If they’ll let me call the plays, I’ll leave Iowa right now”, the presidential hopeful said.
