In a related matter, Arkansas AD Jeff Long said the Razorbacks briefly had a head coach earlier in the day when Millsaps College Colonels (D-III) head coach, Mike Shula agreed to take the job. But not for long. AD Long said "He called back about two hours later and said his wife kept ranting about airplanes with banners, F.O.I.A.'s and to make a long story short told him he couldn't go." Long said he would spend some time today looking through resumes on MONSTER.COM but he wasn't going to let it "ruin my weekend." Former Governor Mike Huckabee answer columist Wally Hall's call for volunteer coaches. "If they'll let me call the plays, I'll leave Iowa right now", the presidential hopeful said.

The Demo-Gazette had an interesting column by Wally Hall where ole Wally is trying to deflect criticism from himself by putting the blame on White. Wally has been primarily guilty (in the eyes of Nutt fans) by expressing the attitudes and desires of the powers that be, i.e. the ones who have the money, as well as more than a few Razorback fans. However, for Sunday's edition, Wally should have known better than to write a column before getting sober. He blames White for running off Blair, the women's basketball coach, who found success elsewhere. Ahem, Wally, White knows didley squat about basketball of any kind. It was the AD (Broyles) who made that decision.** Look, White is more like Scott McClellan, the former White House Press Representative. He makes announcements, not policy. His job is to explain the policies. He says at press conferences what will be the most prudent, expedient thing to say, whether spinning or not. White also acts as a go-between on negotiations. The Razorback Foundation obviously has enough sugar daddies to exert its will. .White didn't screw anything up that wasn't already screwed up and It should have been obvious as to how much power White has when he turned the Mustain mess over to Broyles. That type of situation was, in act, Broyles' job. Broyles screwed it up, if anybody screwed it up, which in my humble opinion, was a situation where once it got out of hand then no one was capable of fixing it .

Wally's column was emphatic about the assistant coaches not coaching the bowl game and that those coaches will lure (steal) Arkansas recruits away. Wally's hyperbole got the best of him when he said that this year's class was going to be the savior of the Razorback program (Wally, better quit drinking that bad shine). I wasn't aware that his years' class was highly ranked nationally. Or that going to ole Miss was going to be a big attraction for the in-state recruits. I would imagine that the recruits' coaches and parents are telling the kids to wait it out to see who the next coach will be. Insofar as Herring and the other assistants not doing their best to win the bowl game, that is incomprehensable to me. This is Reggie's opportunity to show what he can do as a head coach. If the 'Backs look bad, Herring's resume for a future head coaching job will take a hit. Wally's suggestion that there were volunteer coaches' around who could fill in was moronic. Who was he thinking of? Broyles? (Maybe Malzhan knows some smart high school guys). In my sinister and supicious mind, I find this a win-win situation for anti-Nutt fans. If Reggie and the boys win , then that' something that Nutt has failed to do in recent years. If they lose, well, Reggie didn't try hard enough. I would think that Nutt and company would be more worried about the Ole Miss recruits and what they will do more than those coming to Arkansas. Maybe that's why they're runnning off to Mississippi for a week.

Wally is trying fo deflect and protect by changing the conversation. Poor Wally, this is not your grandfather's era. It's the era of the internet, e-mails and bloggers who do have an effect. Relative to this is Kane Webb's editorial, not the one regarding Orville Henry, but the one on the main editorial page where he dismissively thinks that you people expressing your opinions here are wasting your time and that those opinions themselves are not worthwhile. One has to understand that journalists hate the internet because they are open to criticism and they are not in total control (and this includes sportswriters). They have an inflated opinion of themselves, but are many times not as all knowing, or more importantly, as intelligently analytical, as many of the bloggers and the one's who run the bloggs. Screw Kane. He is the worst editorial writer at the Demo-Zette. (His article on Henry wasn't bad, mainly because most of it was quoting Henry).

**In my paranoic view of liberal academics, I would posit that one reason for the firing of Blair and hiring a woman, might have been due to pressure from the gender fanatics at the University, as well, as some prominent equal opportunity women involved with the Razorback Foundation. Just a hunch, may just be coincidence, but to paraphrase someone else, our greated enemies are University English and other Humanities Departments, Hollywood, the Taliban, and Al Queda, in exactly that order.

So, at the end of the season, winning is what it is all about. Kind of of reminds me of a line from the movie Facing the Giants – it goes like this… Well, 'cause at the end of the season, nobody wants to be on TV going, "We're number six, baby. We're number six.

Certainly, I can appreciate that Houston (or somebody else) is getting more with less than others but in 10 years we don't have a single SEC championship. In my opinion, I believe that we had the talent to do so these last 2 years but it just didn't happen. So, I place full blame on the Head Coach.

Also same players that were difference makers in LSU game were available at the beginning of the year. Difference, it took our coaches 11 games to figure it out. HDN was a great motivator. I am selfish a want a great motivator and a great strategist.

Also if you noticed, LSU's quarterback was hurt during game and Holiday was out and there defense is not near as good without Dorsey. Check out the rushing yards Ole Miss put on them.

I actually find myself agreeing with DWC. Oh, I forgot what is was. Oh, OK. now I remember. If Tuberville does come to Arkansas it wil be because of two things. 1. recruiting. Not only does Arkansas have first dibs on in-state recruits, but in case anybody has failed to notice Arkansas is in proximity to Western Tennessee, Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas City, and Northern Louisiana, all great sources for out-of state talent. Nolan did very well with recruits from Memphiis and there is no reason that a Razorback Football coach can't do the same. 2. Tuberville may think that with that recruiting base he can eventually win the SEC Championship, something Nutt failed to do

Here's where I agree with DWC. At Auburn Tuberville has to recruit against Alabama and even against UAB and upcoming Troy State. (If Troy State continues its rise in football success I predict that that they will soon move up again, probably to Conference USA). Tuberville now has to compete against N. Saban, whose players are now leading LSU as evidence of Saban's previous recruiting expertise. (Saban, however, no longer has the advantage of a one state institution and we'll have to see if he can duplicate his LSU performance at Alabama). Tuberville's biggest attraction at the moment for Auburn, in the face of a "mediocre" record (mediocre for Auburn, that is) is his beating "Bama, beating Bama, beating Bama and so on.

Tuberville is not my first choice, but what do I know? Watching the Auburn game was like watching two sumo wrestlers puching each other around, except that it lasted longer. I was, however, impressed with the way Campbell developed as a QB at Auburn and he is now starting for the Redskins, so Tuberville does know how to uitlize a QB other than for handing off and staying out of trouble. There is no doubt, in my mind, that Tommy T. is a better coach than Nutt. I would agree that it's going to come down to money. If T. T. is offered the right amount and takes the job then be prepared to see teleconferences where the theme will be that it is his challenge to bring Arkansas an SEC championship. Tuberville will also have a grace period to rebuild, an attitude which is presently absent at Auburn for next year.

Oh, by the way DWC, NIce to know your an exception to being an idiot. Are there any other definitions that fit? Judge not lest ye yourself will be judged. (or something like that).
