Outcoached, outplayed, outhustled, you name it.

It has been said on this site many times, if our game plan works, we can win. If our plan doesn’t work and our coaching staff has to made adjustments, Lord help us.

    Very disappointing today….

  2. OwassoHog on November 10th, 2007 4:06 pm

oldskooljt, you summed this up fairly well. Looks like we are in for the standard 0-3 run to finish out the year. :-(

Thought you guys would find it interesting that the banner baron flew over Neyland before the game…..”HOGS SHOULD BE 9-0 THANKS A LOT NUTT”

I was reading HP’s live blog today and asked him this question:

HP, do you think it’s a sealed deal that Nutt is gone by the end of the season? With all the off-season turmoil and now not being able to capitalize with (what was) the Heisman front-runner, not to mention all the disgruntled fans (myself included)… is there a chance he doesn’t get fired AND who would be a good replacement (said, improvement)?

    His answer:

I think he will get fired and that this loss to UT will start the ball rolling. Next up will be MSU and then LSU. Could be a nasty finish.

Many are speculating that Butch Davis (currently at NC, previous coach of Miami Hurricanes and Cleveland Browns) could be the next guy. I actually think a better pick would be a Gary Pinkel (currently at MU) or a Chip Kelly (Oregon Off Coordinator), if they can pull it off. Or maybe Art Briles (Houston).

    Interesting, eh?

Little R…I’m sorry you had to see that lousy game and the latest banner in person. I’m sure HogBlogger isn’t very happy that he drove over there, either.

  6. BlindHog on November 10th, 2007 5:36 pm

When Nutt has lost his motivational skills there is truly nothing left. This team has only showed up to play football about 3 times out of 9 games. He should have taken his money and a year off last February. But, it would have take a wise man to see that.

I feel bad for the kids, mostly Peyton Hillis and Marcus Monk.

What has happened to Markuson and the offensive line? Is he spending to much time with his realtor?

I figure we lose to MSU and then beat LSU. I’ll take Oregon over Kansas in the National Title game.

  7. BlindHog on November 10th, 2007 5:52 pm

    10 games, sorry.

And how about the complete lack of discipline on that defense? Mr. Manhoods boys can’t play but they can shoot themselves in the foot well. Hiring Reggie was almost as good as hiring Lee.

  8. OTHOG1 on November 10th, 2007 7:49 pm

Mcfadden can kiss the Heisman goodby, even thought its not all his fault. The blocking was nothing short of terrible and the passing game once again was ineffective. too much time was spent trying to establish a non-existence passing game when we should have been establishing the run, that’s Arkansas’ game and only game. A competent coach would have realize that after the first few missed passes. Miss. State may not be in the “W” column as we originally thought… after beating Alabama.

  9. GonzoHog on November 10th, 2007 8:52 pm

Has anyone figured out now, why I don’t jump right back on the “band wagon” anymore? This is typical of this team, because the way they are coached, (prepared) they aren’t equipped with the mentality to overcome a hostile crowd, on the road, early in the ballgame. Remember Alabama? Some teams play well early at home. Arkansas is one of these teams usually, but at the same time lousy on the road, against a quality SEC opponent. The Vols are a better running team than they are advertised, because of thier passing game. They pass 65% of the time, so why wouldn’t they be? Before today, they outscored thier opponents in the first qr., at home, 71-0. That, combined with the fact the Hogs were short on safeties, should have been enough to convince the Hogs they needed a mistake free ballgame, or something pretty close to it. Disapline is a coaching problem, period, and you can’t say it’s something else because the lack of disapline has been there all season, because the foolish penalties have been there from day one. Have they been improving in that area? not one lick! This game should have been close, “but ya neva know whut ya gonna get” with this team, because the coaching staff is lead by incopetence. Do we need say any names? What’s up with going for it on 4th down, from your own side of the field, when your down 20-3, in the first half? Was the HC just trying to give the ballgame to them? or was he just trying to be Les Miles in his own stupid way? Whatever you want to call it, this game was a joke, and so is the HC! There is no plan for a balanced offense when the HC is not copetent enough to develope a passing QB, and lies to everyone about the OC being the guy who calls the plays. This idiot is in complete charge of running the offense, and he just keeps feeding us the BS. David Lee is nothing more than a cronie, that is holding down a name. There is no plan B when the run off tackle isn’t working, just keep doing it and hopefully it will finally work. Maybe he’ll bust it! That some real intelligent thinkin right there now! With a bowl game possibly looming, this game was important. Now the Hogs face the possibility of not even going to one. Miss St. is a good team, and getting better every week. If we don’t win that one, it’s over. Yea, go ahead and keep the Head Coach when that happens, if you don’t think the stupidity can get any worse than it already is! Anyone got any basketball tickets for sale?

How many times has a defensive lineman jumped offsides this year? I lost count a few games back, but I know it continues game after game after game after….. Why wouldn’t the coaches tell the defensive lineman that they will sit for a quarter if they jump? It has happened at some really inopportune times. It is past time to ask Houston to find something else to do with himself. Maybe Danny Ford needs a ranch foreman?

  13. BlindHog on November 11th, 2007 10:11 am

If you are not going to recruit QBs and receivers you had better recruit offensive linemen. How do we end up short there?

But, of course this is really about coming out flat in the game that could have saved your season, made a statement, put you in the Cotton Bowl, built momentum for a showdown in Baton Rouge.

Paw Paw’s crazy old man big money politics and Dale’s complete lack of character led to an off season meltdown that no team could recover from. Loss of fan support, distraction instead of focus, were as inevitable here as the sunrise. You have to give Diana credit too. What kind of crazy mess is left up there to clean up? The whole thing begins to look like a sesspool. A winning team can’t form in that atmosphere.

Great kids caught is a foolish mess. Paw Paw should have been gone long ago. I wish he would have left before he destroyed his legacy. He invested so much in building it.

  14. mnt hogger on November 11th, 2007 3:44 pm

First of all go hogs forever and Razorback till I die! Now saying that where to begin? When I say “we” in a little bit I mean the University Of AR football team, just to be clear. Id like to apologize on behalf of hog fans to all the seniors on the football team for the under-achieving results of this years team (at no fault of THEIR own) when it could have been and SHOULD have been a special, title contending season, if only they had had an open-minded coach, with at least SOME INNOVATION, who could recruit more than just runners and run blockers, and oh yea… land and keep TOP IN-STATE PLAYERS!!! More on recruiting later, but with just a little INNOVATION this year with the talent we have and we’d have been undefeated until, well the Tenn game, and still in hunt for conference title. Dont get me wrong, I love running over opponents with 3 and 4 hundred yard rushing games and id rather see a well blocked 40 yard run than an 80 yard bomb, BUT to win in this league U have to have at least a little bit of a respected passing attack to keep defenses honest when facing quality opponents like AUB when they crash linebackers and completely stuff your powerful rushing attack. Just a little INNOVATION, not necessarily trick plays, is all it would ‘ve taken to keep us from losing all those close games we were in last year and this year. A basic example would be this: With a D-mac in the backfield, a Felix jones in motion and only a few seconds for a linebacker to react, who would ever pay attention to a TIGHT END especially if he blocked for a second and then slid down the field a little on play action???? WOULD BE OPEN EVERY TIME!!!! at least until LBs had to pay attention then that would open up running game more. Or more passes to FB which we did way not enough of. Speaking of full backs I want to apologize the most to P Hillis. Even though I think he should be drafted, there is NO DOUBT he would definitely be a 1st rounder for sure if only his skills and abilities were utilized and showcased more through the years( I know he had some injuries) especially as we see now since he is our leading reciever. Even still giving d-mac and felix their carries, hillis could have been used more. Sorry to D-mac, which should have won the heisman (but he’ll still be fine as a top 3 NFL pick, so i wont cry for him too much) but the non-effective passing game, which woulda opened up the running game in the nationally viewed AUB game, COST him the trophy!! I know he got back in the race after the Carolina game, but the AUB game cost him and the University the Heisman. As far as recruiting goes, Im confused in that area. Even though these teams are in lesser conferences with way inferior opponents, Lets look at the QB position for other in sate schools UCA and ASU. Now I”ve never followed these schools at all, but have heard that ASU’s QB was on the davey obrian list earlier in the year for QB of the year in college . WOW! I dont know where he is from. UCA’s QB, an IN STATE BOY has been putting up BIG #s and was his conf player of the week at least once if not more this year. HELLO??????? Who do we have as QB?? Not to hate on Casey at all, but How and WHY do these smaller in state schools get higher quality talent at the QB position than The U of A does??? Arkansas is in the BEST conference in the country, with guaranteed national exposure, and yet either We didnt look for these players or they didnt wanna come here, especially the HOME STATE boy at UCA!!! I know these boys dont play the comp AR does or in front of massive crowds in person or on TV, but they still have more ability than our QBs have!! How has AR’s Junior QB progressed under Nutt?? Well, in the 10th game of the season yesterday, after being his normal self and missing hillis for a TD on the previous possession, he was yanked for the backup who completed more passes to the opponent than to his team!!! Honestly Dick was normal inconsistent Dick, but since emert had success against pip squeak FLA INT, I guess Nutt thought he was ready to play in front of 100,000 in knoxville. WRONG!! Emert had happier feet than Fred flinstone. Desperation by Nutt, U betcha!! But who can he blame but his self? That’s the best he could recruit and develop. What an eye for talent he has huh?? I think the Vikings drafted a guy for QB that I believe played under Nutt for a little while at AR BEFORE TRANSFERRING didnt he?? What happenned there?
Like I said I will always support the HOGS! There has just been too much “money left on the table” as far as what mighta been under Nutt, especially this year and last. This is as good as it will ever get unfortunately for us hog fans if we stay the present course, unless we can get a breath of fresh air NOW with some innovation, who knows how to keep home boys from going elsewhere, and can recruit talent at ALL POSITIONS!!! GO HOGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  15. Defense Wins Championships on November 11th, 2007 4:49 pm

Yes, Defense wins championships and Tennessee with their superior talent were motivated for this one. Too bad we could have not kept Felix on the field. If the holes are not there you do not run far. Arkansas is too shallow at all positions to leave two D-backs home, not to mention several receivers out this year and Valdez on the side. And the QB is still learning (probably will be Nathan D. next year.) Hopefully, he did not write a clandistine book stating Nutt should be fired! It is just the luck of the draw with injuries this year. Some years are that way. As players get bigger and bigger, look for that problem to get worse for many teams. Sometimes the problem with top talent is getting them motivated. Nutt is a great motivator with the talent he has. Better talent may be on the way. We shall see. Just ask Univ. of So. Cal. about motivating 4 and 5 stars. Sometimes Carroll is successful in getting them up and other times he is not. Great recruiter but not much of a motivator or tactician in many games. He has the best recruiting classes most years on the coast and nationally, but guess what, with all of that talent they have losses! Amazing. I love modern college football but do not like the negativism that is in almost every program. As I said, this is the McDonald generation…want everything immediately and FAST. Tennessee fans (some) want to fire Fulmer. Actually, he has a very good record. Signs great talent. And even a nice man.

Auburn fans (some) wanted Tubby gone…they may get their wish. Administration tried an underhanded firing of him a few years ago. That was low class by fans and administration. Although he has had a very good overall record, but fans always say what have you done for ME this year And besides that you, you have lost too many games this season and not scored style points. Has been a good recruiter in SEC. And heck, I keep losing with the gamblers, and that makes me feel BAD.

Ole Miss ran off a successful coach (now at Tenn) and look what they got for their foolishness. I suppose they will again start over. We shall see what they decide. Took West Virginia years to overcome the loss of Bowden to FSU and he turned FSU into a power for years.

Florida signs the best talent in the conference almost every year and guess how many losses they have. Some of their fans likewise want a change. They also wanted a change in the coach that went to llinois, but looks like he is on the rise and the Fla. administration would not likely be foolish enough to push him out the way they did the last one.

Alabama fans are now disenchanted but give Saban time and he will make them feel better. Witness the one who called into an Arkansas sports call in show!

Ole Ball Coach may just be ruining the best job in
America by winning too soon. Their fans use to be docile and content…even with lots of losses. He may have ruined that because fans forget quickly (remember when Arkansas fans just wanted a coach that could beat lowly SMU?). There are rumblings that some now are not happy with the SC coach. After all “miracle man” should have won the National Championship for SC at least by this year. If he does not win BIG soon will be interesting to wach what happens over there.

Georgia and Vandy seems to have the only sane fans left in SEC.

Because MSU always gives the Hogs fits, I always thought that game would be a tough one this year for Hogs with Croon getting settled in…and after the upset by MSU at Alabama, now others are penciling in that one for a tough game and perhaps a loss. We shall see.

LSU has perhaps the greatest talent in the league, but they have been living on the edge. If they play to their capabilities, they should be in the BCS championship and win it, but they are not always motivated… either. If great talent is not motivated, they too will lose a few. If they get in another close game, I would bet on them not pulling it out…law of averages is against them. I know an LSU fan who is not trusting of Miles’ coaching; however, he is obviously a great recruiter and coach. I will be surprised if he does not take his staff up north after the BCS bowls if Michigan gives him what he wants (and after Saban his ego may be sticking out and who could blame him), especially, if he prefers the more sane Big 10.

I am surprised no one (this time around) did not drool for the Tulsa coach/staff. That would be interesting to watch the very fans celebrate their arrival to only commence sticking pins in them after a short period of time! Of course passing is exciting no matter whether it is caught, dropped, or intercepted. Either way fans win in the excitement category! Maybe we should just get a contract with other schools and rotate coaches/staffs periodically! There is always excitement with new staffs.

GO HOGS. GO!! BEAT MSU!!! (And P.S. get rid of your drive-stopping penalties!

  16. Defense Wins Championships on November 11th, 2007 4:52 pm

If a team has a good or great year, look no further than the Senior leadership. I am not in a position to evaluate it this year since I do not live around them, but when a senior spikes the ball and could have cost the game, senior leadership is suspect. Last year SEC West Champions had great Senior leadership. When they grow older, they too may acquire it.

On the other hand, they are very, very young…not men…and let them have fun!

  17. BlindHog on November 11th, 2007 7:16 pm

You’re right DWC, it is the seniors, a bad bunch having a good time instead of focusing on winning. It certainly is not the coaching, thank God. Wonderful coaches, bad kids.

  18. GonzoHog on November 11th, 2007 7:52 pm

Yea, I agree, the coaches are awesome baby! What will we ever do with this bunch of seniors? I sure hope the next group can be motivated!

  19. reasonrules on November 11th, 2007 9:05 pm

    Defense,

I gotta tell you I can’t compare us to many teams on your list. We have two wins. One against Ole Miss winless in SEC and the other against SC in a four game losing streak. We are next to last in the entire conference tied with Vandy. We played four patsy’s that would make us the winner of the Sun Belt Conference. ASU had a better showing against UT with much less talent. All the woes you mention fall back on the head coach. This has been a horrible year with three backs likely to move on to the NFL. This has been his worst year yet as Arkansas’s head football coach. So what does next hear hold for us with a Freshman at QB and the shelves bare at RB? You think Reggie is sticking around for another year of this?

You are trying to be supportive, but there is nothing to support except continue to attend the games and encourage the kids.

Houston’s arrogance and inability to take responsibility for mistakes has finally caught up to him, and the people around him are finally starting to see through it. Daddy Frank is not around after the end of the year.

I have said it before and will say it again. HDN can humiliate teams with lesser talent and we have. But when we play other teams with equal or slightly better talent we always lose the game in coaching. Inspiration will not help the players when the other team knows exactly where you are going. What idiot runs a fourth down play without DMAC in the game at least to distract? Who wastes a year of eligibility on Monk with our QB’s this late in the year when you are playing for nothing but a subpar bowl game. Who plays DMAC against inferior opponents instead of letting him rest to be ready for big games. Who leaves players on the field after making critical penalties or mistakes. What message is that? And the best we can hear after mistakes is hey, I’m 2012 baby.

I’m sorry but I don’t even want to go to the games any more because I am just sick of the man and his lies, but I go to chear for the players even when he shuffles them out there to be his defenders. My two boys would make my life miserable if I didn’t get the tickets.

  20. Jim Daly Sr. on November 11th, 2007 9:06 pm

    Blind Hog:

You’re not making any sense with your predictions, Arkansas gets MSU at home. MSU has an excellent defense but not much offensive firepower. Could be a low scoring game which gives the Hogs a chance. if they can bust some big ones. Hope Jones is back. But beating LSU in Baton Rouge?. What are you smoking? LSU can score and also has an excellent defense and it will be like Knoxville all over again with the crowd noise of the fans. Anything can happen this year but I don’t see your scenarios. Insofar as Oregon and Kansas being in the national champioship game, Kansas still has to play Missouri and then probably Oklahoma in the Big 12 championship game. Oregon still has to finish out its PAC 10 season and there might be a stumbling block in one of those games.. LSU’s biggest roadblock to the big game will be the SEC Championship game and that will test Les Myles’ coaching abillity. Odds makers now probably have Oregon and LSU in New Orleans. Wishful thinking is not a good thing to bet on. As I said, I think that they have a good chance against MSU and I will be at both of the last games to cheer the Hogs on. Keep the faith..
I will say that if Arkansas loses both games and can’t get to a bowl then Nutt is gone. And, unfortunately, he will be leaving the cupboard bare. Best bet for Nutt in the future is to get an assistant coaches position some place. As a QB coach maybe. I’m kidding, I’m kidding. ..

My prediction was mostly tongue in cheek based on how nobody can seem to hold the top spot. It would be just like us to drop the next game but play LSU like our bowl game which of course it would be. Yes, we would need a lot of help from LSU but, as I say, every team in that spot has managed to blow a game this year. LSU could be next.

  23. darrell(Hog in LA) on November 12th, 2007 11:47 am

I didn’t get the see the game out here, but no first downs to the third quarter? Hello? Who finally pulls Jr High School QB Casey Dick in a game after 9 games of awul play. If you think for a moment this team is going to beat Mississippi State or stay on the field with LSU you are dillusional. It is plain and simple what needs to be done, I can’t wait and see if this University livesin the past or moves ahead to the future. Kansas is in the top 5 people and we ain’t talking basketball.

  24. GonzoHog on November 12th, 2007 4:25 pm

You forgot Missouri too. Too bad the Hogs won’t play in a bowl game if they lose to Miss.St.. I was kind of wanting to see them play Tulsa in the Liberty or the Independence bowl. Wouldn’t that be a hoot? Maybe we’ll be lucky enough to play in the Music city bowl with a 6-6 record.

  25. darrell(Hog in LA) on November 12th, 2007 6:17 pm

I am thinking their is no way Nutt wants to match wits against Gus, they wouldn’t stop scoring until the final gun. I don’t they beat MSU and we all know LSU isn’t going to let a pee wee coach football team keep them from the BCS title. It would be fun and with all of the SEC bowl tie ins whomever they play in a Bowl game, you can almost bet we will be out coached and everything else.

  26. chuck on November 12th, 2007 7:33 pm

my goodness-out coached again. how can you pay a man what we pay and not be tired of predicting every play and losing against all but “joe’s barber college” type teams. i am shocked that we beat south carolina!

  27. Defense Wins Championships on November 13th, 2007 4:01 pm

Hey, bring on that sub-D-I coach in a Bowl game and my Razorbacks shall beat them back into the Stone age! Count on it! That is one bet you can make and be correct, but if you bet on Tulsa, you better bet no more than a few bucks unless you just want to clean out your account! From some of these posts, they act as if Ole Gus is coaching T, but I will assure you their head coach is Graham! Apparently, some do not know that fact. Would be an interesting mach up but T will go to a bowl, take a few fans with them, and get beat if they play Troy U.

  28. darrell(Hog in LA) on November 13th, 2007 5:10 pm

DWC, you make me laugh. Chavis DC at Tennessee said this was easy game of the year to defend. Man to Man coverage and eight in the box. This is exactly what I am talking about we are discussing playing Tulsa in Subpar Bowl Game that he would probably get outcoached. Welcome to the Nutt era, stay tuned.

  29. GonzoHog on November 13th, 2007 6:42 pm

Unlike last year, in the last 5 games, Gus is calling the plays (for TU), and Nutt is calling them for the UofA. This is a fact, reguardless of the hiring of Lee. We are playing exactly like we played in ‘05, when you know who was still calling his own plays. If Tulsa plays the Hogs, it will be Houston vs. Gus (offensively) matching wits against each other. Boy, is that a lop-sided matchup of intellect.

  30. darrell(Hog in LA) on November 13th, 2007 7:25 pm

Gonzo, I might just pay to see that matchup. It would really be embarrassing to him and the U of A if Tulsa hung half a hundred on our beloved Hogs. How many pages do you think the offensive play book has? 20 to 25.

  31. GonzoHog on November 13th, 2007 7:30 pm

Gus has more plays in his head than the Nutt has on paper!
