Weekly Predictions – Tennessee

Congratulations to Guinness Snout for the closest prediction last week of 32-28.  His quote: “We finally hold on to a fourth quarter lead.”  Yes, we did…although I admit I was getting a little nervous until DMac broke loose.

He may not be a ‘Real Man of Genius,’ but Guinness Snout will be receiving a RazorBloggers t-shirt courtesy of our friends at Carpenter Clothing Co.  Remember…always wear it responsibly, Guinness.  (Oh…and you’ve got mail, too.)

It seems to be all over but the shouting in the RazorBloggers mini-contest.  With the win last week, HogBlogger has a commanding lead with 5 points, followed by the rest of us with two points each.  With just four (five?) games left, if someone else doesn’t hit a winning streak soon, HogBlogger will be showing off his championship ring to anyone who’s interested after the season.

So here we go:

Tennessee VolunteersWalking on Sunshine: Before the 1981 Texas game that saw the Hogs beat the top-ranked Longhorns 42-11, Coach Holtz’s pre-game speech was one to remember.  After he entered the locker room, he slowly looked at every player, and then said…”It’s not even going to be close”…and walked out.  This week…it’s not even going to be close.  Arkansas 41, Tennessee 18.

HogBaller: Do we see the Hog offense from last week against South Carolina?  I think we do.  DMac and Jones both top 100 yards and carry the Hogs to victory.  Arkansas 35, Tennessee 17.

HogBlogger: The Hogs may have found the winning formula on offense.  The question is ‘can we actually play defense?’  Arkansas 31, Tennessee 28.

TipsterHog: After an emotional win like last Saturday, it’s almost always inevitable that there’s a letdown the next week.  Unfortunately, it’s ‘Home Sweet Home’ for the Vols.  Tennessee 38, Arkansas 31.

Leave a comment with your name, e-mail address and pick.  And feel free to add your own take like “Fulmer still eating breakfast donuts during the opening kickoff” or “He’s still ‘all man.’  They still won’t be able to ‘tackle his butt.’  Hogs roll.”

Hogs 35-31 – late season rally inspires the fans (for now).

Going to Knoxville. We were there for the last game when Jason Whitten broke our hearts in the 6th OT. Hopefully, no repeat of that.
God, what a great game last week. Just to see DMAC with bounce in his step again. If he’s running strong again, I think we walk off with this one.

  3. Guinness Snout says:

I’m still not conviced. However, with last week’s showing, I can’t pick against them.

    Another SEC defensive struggle:
    Hogs 45
    Tenn 41

  4. Hog 'n Iowa says:

I think we outscore them as both offenses put up big numbers. Turnovers will play big role in this game…

    Hogs 44 UT 34

    Hogs 38
    Vols 35
    Tejada is the difference.

  6. Useless Hog says:

    PhatVols: 37
    McHogs: 23

PhatVols are not the Cocks and figure out how to slow the McHogs just enough to have time to score against an unfortunately ever-porous McHog defense. Revision of the Wildcat in Malzahn’s absence shocked the Cocks. PhatVols not so surprised this week.

  7. 2 Tour Hog says:

Piggies can’t d-up against this passing attack, and the Run game will not be able to stand alone.

    Vols – 38

    Pigs – 17

  8. HogN_TX says:

I’ve finally figured out a way to get the Hogs to win and that is by picking them to lose. Damn, does that mean me picking them to win earlier caused the losses? Better to learn from ones mistakes so I have found the formula that works. Hogs roll into Vol country with the Swiss Chess defense and there are too many holes.

    Vols 35
    Hogs 28

This means the Hogs win as I am picking them to lose. Hey, it worked against SC and Miss. and picking them to win against Kentucky, Alabama, Auburn didn’t. I’m picking them to lose out the rest of the year so we can finally win a bowl game!

  9. Michael Stansbury says:

Ohh gosh! I am going and I have never been so excited. Tennessee fans wail when they lose. There is weeping and gnashing of teeth- I can’t wait to see it- at Halfitme Hogs 31 Ten 3

    Final Hogs 68 Ten 9

    Print it!

  10. J-Dub says:

I’m not sure if the Hogs can get that High Octane offense hitting on all cylinders for two weeks in a row, but it will be an interesting game.

    Hogs 29
    Vols 25

  11. DieingHog says:

As I said last week HDN has these guys believing in the second season speech. I think RH will switch to some sort of zone defense which will help us. DMac, Felix, and Hillis have big games Hogs 32- 17.

  12. darrell(Hog in LA) says:

On paper this looks like a wash Vols don’t stop the run and that is our bread and butter. But coaching, preparationn and adjustments favor Tennessee. Vols in a shootout 45-31.

  13. HogBloggerJr says:

    Vols 35
    Hogs 31

Vols won’t be able to stop DMac or Felix, but the Hogs won’t be able to stop Ainge (especially if they couldn’t stop Mitchell). This game will be be very boxing-esque and the teams will constantly trade blows. Hogs hold momentum in a hostile environment until Casey or DMac (dare I say it) throws a critical 4th Quarter INT giving Tennessee the chance it needed to pull ahead. DMac runs for a lot of yards, but poor coaching leads us to another SEC loss (while at the same time a moral victory).

Its one or the other, Fat Phil saves his job or the Gutless Punk goes out on top. Trends say Gutless Punk 41-34

  19. razorblade says:

Interesting that Hogs are favored against the higher ranked Vols in Knoxville. I’ll even say they beat the spread and I’ll take the over.

    Hogs 38
    Vols 28.

  20. GonzoHog says:

Tennessee will come out strong early, and show the Hogs they are better at running than advertised. This will set up the long pass down field. With our 1st and 2nd string safties out of this game, the Hogs will give up the long ball more than once. Hogs will keep it close, but this won’t be another SC for D-Mac and Felix. Ainge will beat us with the pass in the 4th. Vols 31 – Hogs 28.

  21. Mike D says:

    Hogs – 38
    Tenn – 27

I HATE everything orange! Hating since 1998.

  22. Doublek says:

Only Ole Miss and Kentucky are worse defensively than Tennessee. Hogstop Rockytop 38-34.

  23. Money Hog says:

    Hogs – 27
    Vols – 32

Houston Nutt plays the SMU fight song during practice next week to prepare for his next coaching job.

  24. Eric DubYa says:

Reggie Herring hears the air raid sirens and tells the defensive backs to “Duck and Cover”. The Vols strike by air with little resistance; the Hogs ground attack has too much ground to cover to make the game interesting.

Old fashion defensive struggle with a sprinkling of penalties and offensive turnovers.

Arkansas squeezes out a victory in a low scoring game.

    Tenn 17

  27. win is a win says:

Hogs win big….SCarolina’s passing game/Spurrier’s system is more complex than Fulmers and we survived that. Our defense doesn’t give up a big play and our passing game is effective (Dick throws 2 TDs), allowing Felix and DMac to have a 200 yard game (each):

    Hogs-42
    Vols – 14

  28. HJHog says:

I’m worried about the problems at safety, but I am expecting to see the MalAzan offense again. Vols are no match against the run, especially the Hogs freight train express (DMAC and Felix).

I’m bleeding RAZORBACK RED for the first time in a long time.

    Hogs 35
    Vols 30

  29. Waldron Hog says:

    Ark 31
    Tenn 28

As the second season continues, the ride continues to be fine. DMAC and Felix have another big day.

  30. The world is about to end….HJHog AND Waldron Hog both pick the Razorbacks.

  31. HogNEdmond says:

Just when it looks like the Hogs are rolling, reality sets back in. Houston’s career at Arkansas comes full circle. Another come-from-ahead loss.

    Tenn 28
    Ark 24

    Oh, the agony.

  32. Carrmaduke says:

    28-24 Hogs
    DMac is too much.

  33. Little R says:

On our way to Knoxville right now. Husband thinks it will be Hogs 41 – Vols 38. I am hoping for a DMac-Felix highlight reel and praying Fulmer eschews any Mark Mangino style orange velour :P

  34. T-towner says:

    How does this look:

    Runnin’ Hogs 48
    Passin’ Vols 31

    McFadden does 200+
    Jones 150+

  35. GonzoHog says:

I am sticking to my origional prediction that the Hogs lose (see comment #20) so they will win again. It’s superstition I know, but every time I get on the “bandwagon” again, something bad happens, so I’ll just continue to predict they’ll lose the rest of thier games, and maybe something good will come out of it. GO HOGS GO!!!!! BEAT TENNESSEE!!!!!

  36. Cook-E says:

    Hogs 35
    Tenn 31

Too much D-Mac and Felix Jones.

  37. Momahog says:

    Hogs 31Vols 33
Dick is replaced by Emert who almost pulls it off with the help of Hillis. Without the emotional high of the Arkansas faithful the orange crowd will work against the Hogs.

  38. High on the... says:

    38-35
We finally make a 4th qtr stop to win the game!!!
