When are these kids going to realize that you have to give maximum effort and intensity for 40 minutes? We’ve been watching this same ‘ol, same ‘ol up and down, lack of consistantsy for quit a while now. Anyone who’s familiar with sports in general has heard the old adage “you can’t coach heart”. That statement couldn’t be more true for several of these players. It’s almost as if there’s a mind set in the first couple of minutes of play, that thier either going to play the whole game with the attitude of “were playing to win”, or “we can’t win this one”. In other words, you either have it, or you don’t. If your a SR., and you have to continually have a boot put up your backside to get you to play this game, that you supposedly love, to the best of your potential, then I would say that if you don’t get it by now, you never will, and that your really just not very good. Part of the game of basketball, football, baseball, hockey, tennis, or whatever, is total commitement, if you really want to be good at it. How many years now have we heard one of these SR’s make this remark after a loss; “they just wanted it more than we did”. Isn’t it obvious by now that these kids have already made up thier mind how good thier going to be the rest of the season? I think John Pelphrey see’s it too, though you’ll never hear him say it. He did make the comment “were going to use this time off to do a little soul searching”. That’s about as close to admitting it as you’ll ever hear from Pelphrey, but as fans, we’ve seen it more times than we can even remember now. Personally, I’m so sick of it, I can’t wait for these SRs to graduate. I wish them the very best in what they have planned in thier future, but as a Razorback fan, I’m completely burned-out on these kids “lack of not wanting it enough”. I really hope this mind-set changes for the better next season. ” Attitude is a reflection of leadership”. Anybody remember that one? Our leaders of the past (administration) are gone now, so hopefully, as a better attitude filters down the chain, we’ll pull out of this mess in 2 or 3 years. Looking forward to a brighter future, and don’t forget GO HOGS GO!!!!!

Gonzo — you are expressing some of the things that a lot of the rest of us have had cautiously rattling around in our brains for a while now too – with our fan hopes taken to highs with efforts like the Mizzou game, it was natural to still wanna believe that John P. could work his magic his FIRST year here despite 4 year old habits all around him. Then along come these last two games which with their heads on straight by rights these guys could have won.

You’ve just hit the nail on the head with a big old sledge hammer though. Those “super effort” games will likely be few and far between for this bunch of SRs. It’s certainly not because they don’t REALLY want it. I’m just afraid that by the time they snap out of it it’ll be too late – and they’ll be in the stands watching Pelphrey’s recruits starting to “want it more” about 3 years earlier in their careers here than THEY did. Quite sad what they bought into during the past several seasons.

I think we may be a little off target if we think that Pelphrey will not vocalize his true feelings. At least we should be hopeful that he does and salvages something of this season even if it’s giving “not ready for prime time” kids playing time and moving his best shooting guard to the point. John P. came in here honestly telling this bunch how sad their conditioning was. Now their conditioning is way above average. That was his easiest task. We probably knew that. I would hope that he will take measures and be super vocal with these guys as to their recent attitudes and efforts. He’s eaten up inside ya gotta klnow that.
You started seeing a little of the “disbelief” from Pelphrey in recent games through his body language and subdued vocalization from the bench. Not a great deal, but if you have been sitting in Sam Walton for any amount of games, you too can tell a definite difference. Looks of disbelief is what I would liken it to. Shaking the head and turning around and pacing. Numerous shots of JP during the GA game gave you the feeling that he is going to take part in the “soul searching” too. He’s not at all made like what he’s getting from some of his players. He seems to be the leader that this program needs. Let’s do our damndest to remember that he’s trying to mold some clay that has already semi-hardened. I’m looking forward to the future just like you and even peeking over the old glasses at when opening day at Baum Stadium is.

The anouncer daid it best during he Georgia game. “This team is not very intellegent.” I thought when he said that. “wow he’s right, that’s what it is.”
I am ready for this bunch to go. This has to be the biggest underachievers I have ever seen in college basketball.
Weems and Ervin can look like Boys Club players, Towns is a pouter, I dont know that Thomas has the BBall smarts, and Hill is the Mat Jones of BBall. he can look like he really doesnt want to be there.
It’s obvious now that Stan didnt recruit a good team but only good players.
Like i said in my lat post, we will be lucky to make it to the NIT.
