Centenary 5, Arkansas 1

Hogwired.com: Baseball can’t solve Centenary pitching

Junior Andrew Darr hit his second home run of the season in the fifth inning to tie the game, but his efforts were not enough for the University of Arkansas Razorback baseball team as they dropped a 5-1 decision to Centenary College on Wednesday afternoon at Baum Stadium.

This is just the beginning. Arkansas sports has been going down hill. Maybe if we wouldn't get rid of all our coaches that win, we could be consistent in our sports. I'm sure if VanHorn ever struggles one season he's gone too. What's good in a team that can only make it to the dance at the end, but can never compete. Missoui kills in football bowl game, NC KILLS in second round of tourney play, ark baseball can make it to the college world series but can't compete. Now our fall back…track…starts off at a whopping 13th in the nation pre-season. We've gotta start earning respect sometime.

Since this is the baseball forum, I'll stick with what little I might know in that arena. You hate to make excuses but you also can't ignore the facts (if you have them). When you lose a half dozen players to the professional baseball draft and half of those are underclassmen pitchers which were basically your week end starters – you have a long road to hoe to shore up the mound. Those kinds or "threefers" don't come along that often. You then are faced with having to score a ton of runs to compensate and that is difficult to put together game after game. Another thing staring you in the face are the numberous injuries that this team has sufferred to starting outfielders, infielders as well as pitchers. That's a leadoff hitter, a gold glove at third and a former starting pitcher and a couple of other bats that were very productive last year that are NOT available right now. Add to that a very young pitching staff and that's like a full house reduced down to a pair of deuces. You have to be a bit more fair but to do that you might need to become a bit more knowledgeable before you become too critical of the Razorback baseball skipper.
