That just goes to show that a straight up vertical jump is not that important when dunking a ball. If I saw it correctly, Weems only has a 32″ vertical. That was the worst of the bunch. There was a 6′9″ dude that had a 40-41″ inch vertical.

Weems knows how to get off the ground. His formula includes a lot of speed while attacking the rim. His ability to convert forward motion into vertical motion is really impressive.

The MAN can jump!!! I really liked his last dunk. Over the shoulder with the left hand off the bound … now that was NICE!

When I heard Weems had been invited to the slam dunk contest, I thought he had a pretty good shot at winning it. Really not a big suprise he won it.

The guy from Texas A&M Corpus Christi Will Bullard was good but he was straight-up ghetto. I was embarrassed to watch him dance. He would have gotten better scores and more respect had he acted like a true athlete other than a punk. It was a great contest, nonetheless. Those guys are unbelievable and when Weems flew from the foul line, it took me back to the Jordan days.

How about through the legs in the air, once with the left and once with the right.

Bullard would have done better if he had not done the same dunk three times.

Sonny Weems did a 2008 version of J.R. Riders East Bay Funk Dunk from 1993. Sonny should be selected to the 3rd Annual College All-Dunkadelic Team that are released the day after the NBA Draft.
