It’s not like there was going to be much of a surprise about what game would occupy the top spot in our countdown of the best Razorback games of the 2007-08 seasons.
When you defeat the #1 team in the country for the fourth time in school history and the first time in 26 years, that pretty much takes all the guesswork out of the decision for us.
Arkansas Defeats #1 LSU – SportsCenter
Arkansas Defeats #1 LSU – College GameDay
Arkansas Defeats #1 LSU – Pump Up The Volume
And who knows…when you look back in 50 years at a victory over the #1 team in the country that was clinched on the last play of triple overtime…it might just qualify near the top of the best Razorback games of all-time.

Great game but my only disappointment in this entry was my belief that LSU didn't deserve to play for the NC. Thanks for reminding me how much of a farce the BCS!
Great game by national standards, program standards, but hardly a truly great game.
LSU was flat all day. They did not come to play. Their whole focus was Florida and the SEC championship game. We were an afterthought. It was much like the big win over Texas. It meant much more to us than it ever did to them. That was only a great game because it was TEXAS. The three overtimes were great but they lost it as much as we won it.
It was a great game by last year's standards and clearly deserves its spot at the top. But it was just the high point of a very disappointing year. It was a great game as a backdrop for the greatness that was CatDog and featured Peyton Hillis in his last game as well. That is probably its real significance. It sent out our best backfield ever on the proper note.
And, it was a great game because it gave the great fans of Arkansas some bragging rights without saving Nutty's job. It was a great end to an awful mess.
I'm not sure what game BlindHog was watching, but that win over LSU was most definitely a great game. Maybe not for LSU fans, but for Hog fans that's one to remember for the next 30 years.
Long after people have stopped fretting about Houston Nutt, we'll all still be talking about that one. 50-48 in triple OT over the #1 team…on the road? Heroics a-plenty by McFadden, Hillis, even Casey Dick? Yeah, that sounds pretty great to me.
I watched it again last week. Their play was poor. It took us four quarters to tie a team that was hardly paying attention.
The time has now come for Arkansas to win against teams that are paying attention. The big wins against over achievers and overlookers are no longer the standard. We can be better than that.
It is Petrino Time.
BlindHog, quit it! You need to calm down… we still have too many days until the first game. It's starting to feel a little too much like Christmas! Boy, isn't this fall going to be some kinda of fun?
Championship teams don't fail to pay attention. If they do, they get what they deserve: emabarassed on national tv. An 'afterthought'? What are you? Les Miles' PR agent? This was a great game, period.
Call yourself a Razorback Fan? Shame on you.
Razorback Expat, you're not in touch with what's outside your immediate circle. Not important to LSU fans? You must have never talked to a LSU fan, student, alum, etc. Every game is important, and they expect to win them all and are highly disappointed when they don't. I live nearby and have spoken to a number of LSU alumni, and they state that the Arkansas game has turned into a significant rivalry for them – the Golden Boot is more relevant than a number of other SEC games.
And after reading this blog for a while, I expect BlindHog to belittle or qualify every signifiant positive that occurred last season. His disdain for Nutt truly takes the wind out of the sails for all of the great, overachieving acomplishments by the kids. Yes, that's right, I think last years team overacheived given that they were working with a two play, predictable offense and marginal defensive strategy and schemes.
BlindHog, I'm excited about the upcoming year too, but hopefully your expectations for excitement are managed appropriately. I suspect we'll have some highs and lows.
I have to agree with Blind just a little. LSU hardly blinked an eye for this game, yet they still almost won. We mixed it up just enough to break several big plays for TDs, when they had us all but stopped. If you go back and look at the play-calling, look at how many times they had us shut down just before D-Mac or Felix or Peyton would break off for a big run. Total lack of preparation by the Tigers defense was the reason for this victory. They felt like they had nothing to prove, and just basically showed up. We had everything to prove after a lousy year, because we had a lousy head coach.
Can we for once NOT make this sort of discussion about the coach and just give those kids their due? They played their guts out against a team that by all rights should have simply hammered them to the turf. So what if LSU helped the Hogs by being lackadaisical and cocky? The team still had to go out there and make them pay. The game and the score speak well to how they did just that.
Another point to make is that LSU wasn't ready for a number of other games so I don't think that their lack of preparation for us was any different.
Give Nutt credit.
Arkansas became the team that LSU, Alabama, and Auburn did not want to play. They lost often enough, at the wrong time, when they were more worried about Tennessee and Florida. It separated us from Ole Miss, Miss St, and South Carolina.
I'm calm. I won't comment further. It was a good game. My brother got his Phd from LSU and lives in Baton Rouge. I don't have tell you what kind of Thanksgiving he had. We watched together even if we really didn't see the same game.WinisaWin is right. They were ashamed to have lost to us.
Nutt accomplished the above without spending much time in the top 25, much less the top 10.
I'm sorry if having the best backfield in the nation while going 4-7, 10-4, and 8-5 leaves me calm but, that's just me. I was looking for a team that LSU might respect, perhaps secretly fear.
I think the kids got thier "just dues". I also think they got a certain amount of respect from the Tigers too, but facts are facts. LSU didn't come to play no matter how you look at it, because thier arrogant and cocky, because they know thier good. Thier a reflection of thier coach, and very lucky to have won the national tital, considering how many close games they had, even if they were the most talented team in America. Anyone disagree?
Nope…and I do think we were fortunate they were banged up when we played them. However, if our team had believed what I've been hearing around here lately then they wouldn't have stood a chance (much less won) even if LSU had suited up their band for the game. ;^)
The coaches can do whatever they want to motivate the kids but the kids still have to buy into it and make it happen. Just look at some of what our new Conditioning coach, Veltcamp, is doing. Definitely different and interesting but it remains to be seen if the kids are buying it (seems like they are but…we'll see). The LSU game showed what can happen if the kids believe and decide to make it happen. Was there poor coaching? Yes. Did it really matter? No. I can't wait to see what happens when we have that great attitude AND great coaching. Petrino is supposed to not only be able to motivate his team but also to be much more 'businesslike' in his approach to the game. Great. I'm ready!
Amen Gonzo and hawgfan. this was a victory of our kids over theirs. They were poorly coached or they would have had some focus. We were poorly coached because we had Hooty. But our kids game to play and took the boot back to Fayettenam. That is what made it a great game.
