High Jump

We’ve waited a little while before blogging this to make sure it wasn’t just somebody’s idea of a joke.  Hoping it wasn’t a cruel hoax being played on the passionate fans of the SEC.

However, it appears now that Raycom Sports (formerly Jefferson Pilot Sports…uh…formerly Lincoln Financial Sports) will be broadcasting all of its 2008 SEC football telecasts in high definition.

Dave And DaveWow…that’s like driving a Model-T one day and a Maserati the next.

And we’re not the only people who are surprised.  Clay Travis of CBSSports.com has written hilariously about JP/LFS/Raycom before, and his take on this HD conversion is equally funny.  After comparing the news to the fall of the Berlin Wall, Travis lists nine “concerns” he has about the new HD telecasts, including:

# 7.  Someone’s going to push the wrong button and the purple pill Nexium first-down line is going to result in a purple telecast.

[...] # 9.  Alabama fans without televisions showing up at Home Depot to watch the game because they heard Raycom was now in HD.  If I worked at Home Depot I’d be insuring against the resulting riots right now.

I suppose we’ll wait until football season starts before forming our own opinion.  For now, we’ll just say welcome, Raycom Sports, to the (somewhat) new era of television sports broadcasting.

We’re looking forward to seeing Dave, Dave and Dave in HD.  And does this mean Daughtry’s intro video will be in HD, too?

So, how about Dave, Dave, and Dave? Doesn’t the 21st Century need a talent upgrade? Which one would you keep? Stabler is currently available, surely we could find someone to go with him.

Blind…I haven’t warmed up to the newest Dave (Archer). He isn’t nearly as entertaining as Dave Rowe was. The other two are pretty good.

Either way, I wonder what will become of Raycom if the SEC starts its own network. Fox is a partner in the Big 10 Network so I suppose Raycom could be one for the SEC.

  1. [...] Pilot Financial) Sports, who televise regional SEC games during football and basketball season, are upgrading their telecasts to HD. I’m linking to this only for the humorous commentary about Raycom and the 3 Daves. [...]
