Game Predictions — Western Illinois
August 28, 2008 by TipsterHog
Another season…another year of weekly predictions. It’s always a fun thing for us during game week to throw out our guesses and then see what you think.
Last time we did this, the RazorBloggers were divided over whether to pick Missouri or the Hogs. In the end, it was Sunshine who chose correctly…not that it made him or any other Razorback fan feel good after that very ugly (red pants) loss. (And dang right you should be apologizing, Reggie!)
Once again this year, we’ve partnered up with our friends at Carpenter Clothing Co. to create a limited run of RazorBloggers Network t-shirts. (Congratulations to Roy, by the way, for winning a t-shirt with the closest Cotton Bowl prediction of 52-9. Ugh…I promise that’s the last time we will ever mention that game again.)
Here are the contest rules:
- The winning entry must pick the winning team and have the smallest combined deviation from each team’s final score. For example, if the Hogs beat their opponent 20-14, and your prediction was Hogs 21-17, your deviation would be 1 + 3 = 4.
- Any ties will be broken by a random drawing.
- The weekly winner will be contacted via e-mail for a shipping address and t-shirt size. (So make sure to fill out the e-mail address box in the comment form!)
So here we go:
Walking on Sunshine: No offense to the WIU faithful, but if this doesn’t look like a machine gun drill, then we’re in big trouble. Offense is in mid-season form. And after the win, Petrino resists the temptation to climb the band director’s ladder to sing. Arkansas 52, Western Illinois 9.
HogBaller: The new era of Razorback football begins with a shock and awe from the Hogs that the Leathernecks never recover from. “So this is what a real staff can do” 49, “What just happened?” 10.
HogBlogger: The new Razorback regime will run up the score just for the sport of it. Expect to see the ball in the air. Arkansas 52, Western Illinois 12.
TipsterHog: Bobby Petrino is no Jack Crowe. Western Illinois is not The Citadel. Arkansas 55, Western Illinois 17.
Leave a comment with your name, e-mail address and pick. And feel free to add your own take like “So that’s what a forward pass looks like” or “Leathernecks stay leashed. Hogs roll.”

Hogs win 55-31!
10k is back! I’ll be the first to predict that this game will be ugly. Offense will look good, but the youngins will struggle on defense.
Hogs - 49
Division II School - 29
Hogs - 56
WIU - 9
Hogs-41
WIU–20
My shirt size is still XL;)
Go Hogs Go!!!!
Hogs 39 WIU 8
Hogs - 55
WIU - 17
Offense looks sharp early and defense gets better as the game goes on. Glimpses of real “Special” teams are shown.
Everyone will have plenty of time to move around, mingle and buy refreshments..
Hogs 34
WIU 14
20 starters coming back and an All-American tailback against our linebackers, WIU comes to play, not that it will do them any good. Offense starts fast but continues search for focus late.
Arkansas 41-20
Let’s be realistic, it’s still Casey Dick at quarterback. We win, but closer than people think and ugly.

WIU 20
Just a side note…apologies to those who tried to access the site earlier this morning. Our hoster experienced some issues that caused us to be down for several hours. Hopefully they are corrected now.
Thanks,
Tipster
I’ll go out on a limb, a la Hogballer’s season predictions:
Hogs - 63
WIU - 9
Whatever the score ends up being, I am looking forward to the season beginning!
Hogs win but not a complete blowout.
Hogs - 38
WIU - 10
Hogs D struggles. WIU controls the clock and keeps our offense on the sidelines. Hog offense impresses. Hogs win 35 - 24.
45(AR)-21(WIU)
It’s finally time !!!!
Hogs 43
WIU 13
Go HOGS !!!
According to all the practice reports, this team, overall, my be young, but as Petrino said, “we love to hit”. Going by that info, I’ll predict there’s gonna be some turnovers, and that spells double-trouble for the WIU defense. The more Casey Dick and Co. are on the field, the more chances we have to score. HOGS 59 - WIU 16. WOOOOOOOO PIGS!!!!!
Hogs 35
WIU 14
Two running backs go for over 100 yds (sounds a little Nutt-like) and more than one receiver has three or more receptions (not very Nutt-like).
WPS!
Hogs find it more difficult than the fans could have imagined. Just to many freshman
Leathernecks 21
Hogs 24
Offensively executing comes into play later on in the game and freshman make instant impact….meanwhile defensively we struggle just a tad but win 45-21. PS Casey puts up crazy stats.
Much like preseason scrimmages, our defense stinks, but our offense is pretty good.
Hogs - 63
WIU - 35
55-13
Very hard to predict considering it is the first game, but our kids are ready to play. No more waiting until the fourth quarter to pull away.
Hogs 42, WIU 21
Casey puts up ridiculous stats but Hog’s D gives up some big plays.
Was watching a few games from last year to get pumped up, and was reminded that Casey looked very strong the latter part of the year. I can’t wait to see what he does when he has more than one reciever to choose from on a play!
Hogs 52
WIU 10
Hogs 45, WIU 24
We’ll put up some offense, and I think the defense will look a little better than most people think, but will still give up a couple big ones.
Hogs 41, WIU 10
Not sold just yet on the high-octane Leatherneck offense.
Oops, I copied Ward Hog. Make mine 42-24
Hogs 44-10
Our defense may not be that good but I think against a DII line, our D-line will dominate and reduce our need for linebackers. I’m psyched to see Antwonne(spelling?) Robinson back in the fold. I was so excited about that guy after his sophomore season and then last year is a flop for whatever reason. First touchdown comes from defense or special teams after all this talk about offense. Adam, I think you’ll eat some crow. After what Casey has been through and the stats he is about to put up this year he may well go down as one of the most fondly remembered Razorbacks of all time. That is until he gets busted cutting a “key” of booger sugar in the back of an SUV.
Completely off topic but… “it appears that the Arkansas-Louisiana-Monroe (ULM) game on Saturday, Sept. 6th will be available as a pay-per-view broadcast for $34.99.” Ouch!
41-28 Petrino starts off the year right. We can finally forget the prior regime. It’s going to be a fun year! GO HOGS GO!!
Hey everyone, I’m a WIU alum of a year. I think you guys will win, but we will put a dammn good fight. Our defense was one of the best in the nation and held Illinois to 7 points all the way through the 3rd quarter last year. Granted that is Big 10 and not SEC but don’t be surprised to see our D run with your SEC boys. Our offense is terrible and that is going to be the prob. You guys are going to load the box just like Illinois did. Still, will be a good game. To let you guys know we have a pro player on our team #7 Mike Mceachern who plays saftey was drafted in the CFL last year by the BC Lions. Also #6 Jason Williams ” J-Will” is a great linebacker and excpected to go 5th, 6th, or 7th round. You guys win but closer then most think.
Razorbacks- 35, Leathernecks-21

Closer than 2.5 million Arkansans think it will be. Still, it is good to walk around campus with no Nutts.

I would like to be proven wrong, but I need to see this team play before I predict the blowout some of you see happening….

Owasso, $35 is a great value, particularly for Hog fans out of state or not in the local area. I’ll be at the game, which is costing around $400 including tix, gas, etc - $35 is great for me! Not the same as being there, but invite 4 friends to watch, each person pitches in 9 bucks and no problems!!! I’m just thankful that PPV will be available!
It will be hard for Petrino to let off the gas on offense until very late . . . but the young Razorback defense may get tired.

over 20 new freshman. most on offense. casey dick has been rusty his whole razorback career. but this year is his year. he will carry the hogs out with a bowl victory. arkansas wins home opener.
38-10 arkansas
God help us….red pants again according to Razorback Nation’s Aaron Peters.
38-17 Hogs. It would have been better… but considering the pants I’ll take the win.
What are you guys talking about? What red pants?
Hogs 45
Leathernecks 13
Casey has 3 TD’s; one each to Jarius, Joe, and DJ Williams. DJ and D. Curtis each run for a score. We also pick up an INT return for a TD and a Tejada FG. Good times.
woohoo… i do believe that’s winner winner chicken dinner with my 30-20 predicition (a 6-point variance). just barely beat Mike in Magnolia’s 24-21 predicition (7-points).
Adam, you are correct. You edged out Neils Boar (35-24) and Mike in Magnolia (24-21). Congrats. You have mail…
