Yikes!!! Offense was a little more balanced, but defense still has a long way to go. I watched Texas play UTEP last night. The Horns made it look pretty easy. Thier offense is very polished, and thier WRs look very quik, much like OU’s do. It could be a very long day down in Austin.

Bobby promised exciting games…. WOW! - I didn’t think this would be the kind of exciting games he was promising.

Predicting scores this year seems to be much more difficult then expected. My hats off to the winners so far.

This is the first time I can ever remember not getting that real excited feeling before a Texas game. That doesn’t mean the Hogs have no chance of beating the Horns, but it’s not very likely that’s going to happen, but this game could go either way, as far as a confidence builder goes. Even in a probable loss, we could still see marked improvement in certain areas of this team. I’m keeping my fingers crossed we give the Horns more than they really exspected. There is one game though, that pump’s me up just a little. I have no love for the over-rated Buckeyes, and look forward to seeing the SC Trojans dismantle them, completely. I get so sick and tired of hearing about how good they are, and what thier chances are to get back to the NC title game, when they shouldn’t have even played in the last two. I’ll suck it up, and be an SC fan for a couple of hours, I guess.

Petrino seems to be working his magic w/the offense. Unfortunately, I don’t think the offense will even come close to making up for the lack of a defense. All we can hope for is that a few more guys get healthy enough to play and that the young guys drastically improve. The D-line is very disappointing this year.

Is this team exciting or what? I know it is cause for concern, but the future looks so bright for us. Offensively, we could be REALLY great! Don’t you all see it? These guys are getting more confident each game. They didn’t panic. I didn’t agree going for it on 4th and 2 at the 47, but Coach P was trying to get the momentum on our side. That hurt. However, he has one great offensive mind. The sky’s the limit with Coach P. I’m excited! Smith looked great. Casey is the only QB in Hog history to have 2 consecutive 300+games. Unbelievably, crazy!!! Casey Dick! haha Not bad for the ‘bus driver’, eh? I’ll let someone else comment on the defense, or lack there of. I will say that thank goodness for the 2 CB comments for next season. Let’s hope our guys play to their competetion and play better in Austin. GO HOGS!!!!

We have had poor special teams play, apparently we have lost what we thought would be a weapon in the kicking game, we get no turnovers in either game, we make all kinds of mistakes and still win both games. The eternal optimist has to say we will only get better.

Is there a chance that these guys were looking ahead to TX?

I said it before the first game and I’ll say it again. We are playing 20 freshmen, plain and simple. You cannot compete in division 1 playing that many freshman. I don’t care how good a coach you have or how athletic your freshmen are. This will be a long season and so will next year, but that’s ok. Folks the cubboard was bare and it won’t be filled over night or in a year for that matter. I have come to except the fact that the hogs will be lucky to win 4 games this year. But like I said I’m ok with that because of the future preview that we have seen thus far. We may also go through a couple of Defensive coordinaters before it’s all said an done with. Remember the one we have now was not the first choice.
    GO HOGS!!!

Mike, I’d have to agree that our Defensive coach might not be around for long. However, if you are right in the “cubboard was bare” statement, then he might need some grace too.

I didn’t watch the game (I did listen) so I wasn’t sure how close the 4th and 1 was at the end of the game. After watching the highlights and seeing how close this play was, I was impressed with the call, the execution, and the blind luck of the catch… I’m guessing more times then not we wouldn’t make this play. If we don’t, obviously we lose. Give coach the credit for having the nerves to actually call this play. Wow!

I believe with time, the defense will get better. Depth is a concern. Behind Sheppard and Mitchell, we have 2 more True Freshmen. Askew and Stadther. In the DE rotation, Jake Beaqette is a R.S. Freshman, and Demario Ambrose is a Sophmore ,that barely played last year. To make matters worse, A. Davis is a converted safety, who is still only 238 lbs. Our two starting interior linemen are the only real exsperience we have. We may have jumped the gun a little, with exspectations we had of this group. Also, I’m a little suprised we haven’t forced any turnovers. I exspected us to be more physical, and force a few gimmies. I believe this will come in time, and hopefully, we start getting some solid play in the special teams. If that happens, we could be a pretty salty team by year’s end. I’m confident the offense will get better and better. GO HOGS!!!!!

Opps! That last comment need’s a correction. Antwan Robinson should be included with the group of D-Linemen with exsperience.

I know everytime I saw the score on Saturday night I kept reaching for my beer, what the hell man. We are just so young this year, these next few weeks will definitely make the season. I still think we will compete with Texas but 2nd half they will probably pull away from us, defensively there seems to be some drop off in experience and talent.
