Game Predictions — Louisiana-Monroe

Sitting in Razorback Stadium last Saturday night, I was sick when Western Illinois scored their touchdown with 10:34 left in the game.  Sure…I knew the Hogs were only behind by 10 points.  And I hadn’t given up hope.  But the thought of losing to the Leathernecks had not entered my mind until that moment.

And then I thought about something else: no one on this site picked WIU to win.  Not one RazorBlogger or RazorCommenter.  Heck…even a WIU fan who posted picked the Hogs to win.

So what would we do?  It says right there in rule #1 of our official prediction contest rules: “…must pick winning team.”  So would we still give a RBN t-shirt from Carpenter Clothing Co. away?  Would we be sued for fraud if no one got a t-shirt?  Would there be protests and hate mail this week?  Luckily, these questions would not have to be answered.

A fourth quarter comeback would help Adam have the closest prediction last week of 30-20.  His quote:  “Let’s be realistic, it’s still Casey Dick at quarterback.  We win, but closer than people think and ugly.”  Congratulations, Adam.  But let’s hope it’s neither close nor ugly this week.

So here we go:

Louisiana-Monroe WarhawksWalking on Sunshine: A week’s worth of film study and error correction should be what the doctor ordered for Petrino’s Piglets.  A jacked up crowd in ‘The Rock’ won’t hurt, either.  Michael Smith makes up for lost time.  Arkansas 38, Louisiana-Monroe 19.

HogBaller: The Razorbacks keep this one from being a nail biter as they make great improvement on special teams and defense.  The Hog offense is a thing of beauty, as we finally get to see the running game.  The defense improves, but shows that they still have a long way to go to be ready against SEC teams.  Arkansas 45, Louisiana-Monroe 17.

HogBlogger: The Hogs start like they finished last week on offense and get ahead early.  Michael Smith adds a spark to the running game and prevents some of the pass protection lapses we saw last week.  The defense and special teams show improvement.  Arkansas 34, Louisiana-Monroe 14.

TipsterHog: Michael Smith brings balance back to the Hogs’ offense.  Players returning from injuries help the defense look better.  Sorry Nick…no Natural State “catastrophe” this week.  Arkansas 38, Louisiana-Monroe 17.

Leave a comment with your name, e-mail address and pick.  And feel free to add your own take like “Big deal…we throw for 300+ yards all the time now” or “Warhawks pick up their ‘attendance check.’  Hogs roll.”

41-13… Bobby is still "tweaking" the system.

  2. ward_hog says:

Hogs roll!!! Casey 'Tebow' Dick continues to show Hog fans what is in store for the future of this program. I really believe he lights up the scoreboard in this one. Our defense will look nothing like last week, for this is Louisiana-Monroe. All Razorbacks… Us-48 Them-10.

    Go Hogs Go!!!

  3. BACON BITS says:

I'm not ready to say we've arrived just yet. I was totally mistaken about Western ILL and what we would do to them. We also have a team (Monroe) coming here that is a little more polished. I think the jitters are gone on offense and Smith helps but the defense still has to show me something………….

    HOGS 42

    HAWKS 28

  4. Smedlap says:

Hogs improve, drop less than 12 passes and fumble less than two kickoffs; however, defense misses 27 tackles in closer game than expected, again.

Hopefully the first game nerves are gone…

I got carried away with my pick last week so I will take it easy this week:

Heading down to LR to see Bobby get off on the right foot in our other stadium!

It'll be close, but Smith will bring more balance.

  10. Carolina Hog says:

I'm pretty scared of this game. None of us ever counted on losing one before Texas. I did feel good about the offense by the end of the game. Let's hope they keep it up and the D improves. Go Hogs

  11. Adam says:

well, I'm still pessimistic about everything. I still hate Casey Dick, despite his being responsible for 4 TD's last week. And ULaMo absolutely knows they're capable of beating lower tier SEC opponents… so, in short, I'll be that guy.

    ULaMo 31

  12. GonzoHog says:

LMU's QB didn't do all that shabby against Auburn, recording 220 overall yards. He likes to use his athleticism to run out of the pocket, so our CBs are going to have to play good pass protection and good run support out on the corners. D-Line will have to play better against the run, and apply more pressure on the QB to be sucsessful. Offense need's to get out to a fast start, so the WarHawks have to play catchup. Run game will be better. Hopefully, we cut down on turn-overs. Hogs 35 – WarHawks 17.

  13. Chap says:

Same score as last week, but a different result for the hogs.

  14. T-towner says:

Hog defense and offense improve dramatically in one week:

    Pigs 45

    Warhawks 10

  15. LiqourStoreHog says:

I think we improve greatly on the defensive side of the ball, but keep in mind that it's going to be freshman that improve greatly. I think the offense clicks for all 4 quarters and i'm calling the Jarius Wright's first college touchdown on his first college reception. Casey Dick will have another 300 yard passing game and the Textbook Bandit gains 100 all purpose yards

    Warhawks-17

Along with Bobby P I have been praying for the line to learn how to block. I believe prayers will be answered Saturday and look for both Casey "Vick" and Michael Smith to have stellar performances. Next stop, 2-0 aboard the train to Austin

    In other news SEC news

    U.G.A. VII is 1-0

Tebow accounts for 3 TD's and almost 200 yards less than Casey Vick, but continues to wonder how to remove ESPN's lips from his heinie

Ole Miss runs 34ish times passes 20ish and stole the Wildcat… again

    and finally

Miss St ruined many peoples 4 game parlay's and disgraces the SEC… again

  17. Ray Zorbak says:

    MSmith gets rolling…

    Hogs 41-23.

  18. BlindHog says:

Same song, second verse. The coming out party is ahead but not this week. Thank Goodness War Memorial is worth 10 points. I expect the crowd to welcome Bobby home. Stay out of the mud. Arkansas 35-21

  19. Mike S. says:

Remember- their offense stuggled against Auburn- we will have 3 scores on Defense-

  28. HogNEdmond says:

It appears unlikely there are going to be any easy W's on the Hogs schedule after last week. Yet, I am still optimistic. Offense should be better. ULM offense might be worse than WIU.

Darius Winston was a huge pickup. I was worried we were returning to the dark days of losing the top instate players. If we are fortunate enough to have a home grown 5 Star athlete we need to lock them down. Go Hogs!

  31. KristalHog says:

Hogs win a squealer, by a snout.

    Hogs 17

  32. Hey Mike in Magnolia, I double checked and you were indeed painfully edged out by Adam last week. Adam’s 30-20 score had a differential of 6, while your guess of 24-21 had a differential of 7. Neils Boar also narrowly missed out with his 35-24 pick (differential of 7).

“The winning entry must pick the winning team and have the smallest combined deviation from each team’s final score. For example, if the Hogs beat their opponent 20-14, and your prediction was Hogs 21-17, your deviation would be 1 + 3 = 4.”

Little Rock + balanced running and passing game by Arkansas's offense will hopefully provide a lopsided victory provided the Arkansas defense clamps down.

Wahoo!!! I mean whew!!! I love these young guys. How bout that 4th and inches play. WOW! Special teams gets a big F for this game. I don't care how ugly it was… a win is a win and I am glad luck was on our side with that last FG try!!! GOOOOO HOGS!!!!

  42. Little R says:

Ditto on the F for not-so-special teams. I guess I wasn't crazy when I thought I saw Shibest sneaking into War Memorial!
