Game Predictions — Texas

September 25, 2008 by TipsterHog

Congratulations to Joey (a.k.a. Shaw) for the closest prediction last week of 48-13.  His quote: “Not a chance.  Saban completely outwits Petrino.”  A impressively close score prediction, Joey.  Although I would argue that the coach with better talent always seems to “outwit” the other coach.  (The Ole Miss coach is, of course, the exception that proves the rule.)

As for the RazorBloggers, we have our own little mini-contest going under the same rules.  The only difference is that there’s no RBN t-shirt from Carpenter Clothing Co. on the line each week.  (Hmmm…maybe we could come up with another prize for our mini-contest.  Trip to Hawaii?)  After three games, it’s TipsterHog 2, Sunshine 1, and HogBaller and HogBlogger tied at 0.

So here we go:

Texas LonghornsWalking on Sunshine: The best thing for this young bunch might be to get out on the road and bond together as a team.  Texas slopped around for a quarter and a half before drubbing Rice last week.  Their pass defense is suspect (103rd nationally), but Rice couldn’t take advantage…Arkansas will.  Although Texas will probably not be completely caught off guard, the contrarian in me smells a bounceback this week.  Texas 38, Arkansas 26.

HogBaller: The Hogs need to put together a complete game in order to have a chance.  Petrino and staff will have them ready and these young Razorbacks will play up to their opponent.  Texas gets caught overlooking the Hogs and loses a close one at home.  Arkansas 31, Texas 28.

HogBlogger: The Hogs can’t match up with Texas at home.  Texas 35, Arkansas 17.

TipsterHog: The 2003 game in Austin was awesome.  I know a Hog fan who attended who says it was one of the best days of his life!  Unfortunately, the outcome of this Saturday’s contest will only make us want to remember that game even more.  Texas 42, Arkansas 17.

Leave a comment with your name, e-mail address and pick.  And feel free to add your own take like “Mack truck steamrolls over Boss Hog’s Harley” or “Petrino cures the sick.  Hogs roll.”

Logic tells me to pick the ‘horns, but I just can’t do it! Wilson connects with Adams in the final seconds.

Can’t pick the Horns, I just can’t do it.

Casey has the game of his life but someone has to put the ball in the endzone. We find out who. Arkansas in a squeaker 37-35

jeez, this is going to be bad. if C. Dick looked that bad at home against Alabama, how’s he going to look on the road for his first road test as a real quarterback (not a bus driver) in Royal Stadium? Awful, that’s how he’ll look.

Plus, Mack remembers what we did on their field last time and won’t allow it to happen again.

Continuing the trend of “learning” to play… Hogs lose 59-18.

Arkansas plays a much better game offensively. Muschamp rips his shirt off after one of the few UT defensive stands.

In the end, Texas O is too much for our D.

Another game we’ll have to show some patients, but will still see some improvement. I think we’ll hold it together a little better against Texas, but still take another beat-down on the road. Horns 38 - Hogs 13.

You guys have been smoking crack with your predictions all season. Quit playing the optimist card and analyze the game objectively. The Horns are going to rip us apart. Casey Dick is still at the helm.

This is a game where we need a coach who understands the importance of the rivalry to the FANS, i.e. it’s not just another game against a tough opponent - it’s The GAME. Petrino probably doesn’t understand that yet. As a consequence, neither will the players.

Shades of the 1970s when the Darrells kicked our butts on a frequent basis. The Franks just don’t have the talent to stick with the Darrells. Maybe some day, but not now.

We don’t give them any free TD’s but they won’t need them. After the game, we get ready for “Mr. Wilson” as Casey has another bad day.

Special teams play well. The defense is still weak and Texa$$ could score more if needed.

  28. BACON BITS on September 26th, 2008 9:51 am

After watching Oregon State knock of USC last night I became encouraged. Although the beavers were at home, this might be the one game we can win within this incredible 4 game stretch. The Texas kids on our squad will be pumped. Casey is actually coming to his home state so he plays well. Hogs in a shocker!!!!!!!!!!!!

Longhorns secondary said to have trouble stopping the pass against some weaker opponents so far this week. Let’s hope that trend continues. A few points would make us feel better about how many we give up. I think it’s a bunch…

Hogs 27pt Dog… they will have to prove they can be competitive against legit competition, which they are yet to do.
Seems most have overlooked the key fact… this is the first actual road game for these young piglets.
Could get ugly, although it’s not clear how good Texas is. If I’m Coach Brown, I’m gonna hammer you so you don’t get any kids from Texas.
Good news for the Hogs… after this game is over, you are one game closer to having this disastrous season overwith.
