Game Predictions — Ole Miss
October 23, 2008 by TipsterHog
Congratulations to Jay Dub-Ya for the closest prediction last week of 24-20. His quote…uh…actually…he left no quote. C’mon Jay! Okay…I’ll give you mine: “Hogs lose in a bluegrass heartbreaker.” Ugh…sucks to be me, huh Jay?
As always, each week’s winner receives a RBN t-shirt courtesy of Carpenter Clothing Co. And Jay…you can feel free to write ‘Pork vs. Dork’ on your new shirt before wearing it to this week’s game.
So here we go:
Walking on Sunshine: The Prodigal Son returns to face the wrath of an entire state. ‘Golden handcuffs’ removed, Nutt and the Rebels try to keep their bowl hopes alive. If Michael Smith plays, and the crowd stays at a fevered pitch for four quarters, I think the Hogs find a way. If you take your kids, make sure and cover their ears. Arkansas 27, Ole Miss 25.
HogBaller: Like Houston, Razorback fans had this one circled on their calendars for a long time. Houston has the better team on paper, but we saw first hand for 10 years what that means…doing less with more. The experts are calling for this to be a nail-biter (pun intended)…I beg to differ. The Hogs jump out to a lead and never look back. Balanced Attack 35, ‘I Called That Play, Chuck’ 17.
HogBlogger: The strong emotions on both sides of the ball will only contribute to the Hogs’ (so far) consistent inconsistency. Houston Dale will play tough and ‘not to lose’ and the Hogs will play into his hands. Winning will require no turnovers, solid defense for the entire game, and a 300-yard passing game. That’s an unlikely combination. Ole Miss 28, Arkansas 17.
TipsterHog: After a loss like last week, it takes a while to get emotionally ready for the next game. Fortunately, turnovers by Ole Miss help wake the Hogs up and realize they can beat Houston Dale and the Rebels…barely. Arkansas 21, Ole Miss 20.
Leave a comment with your name, e-mail address and pick. And feel free to add your own take like “The Wildcat is neither the Wild Hog nor the Wild Rebel…discuss” or “Every win is precious. Hogs roll.”

Houston booed early and often and in the end he still can’t hold the lead. Hogs win 31-30!
Takin’ the plunge again and waitin’ for flyovers:
Hogs-24
Rebs-21
Hogs: 17
The only team I hate worse than Texa$$: 24
I want to win this game more than any other on our schedule. There are several “if’s” that could change and I’d pick Arkansas but they all stack up against us right now.
We still have the same QB and now have no apparent backup. Our 2 best offensive players are hurt (Smith and Williams). That makes for a rough operating offense.
Smith plays a half, the Wild Rebel runs wild. Turnovers make the difference.
Arkansas 31-27.
Nutts Revenge. He’s not gonna let up & we’re beat up as hell:
Hogs: 21
Rebels: 45
God, I hope I’m wrong.
I hope i’m wrong on this prediction:
The Nutt Huggers 24 - Hogs 14
If Nutt’s team can’t hang on to the ball, and we get a few turnovers, I will gladly eat some crow and lick my fingers.
Hotty Toddy that, Nutt….
Hogs-21
Rebs-17
Nutts Bro’s: 32
Petrino Bro’s: 14
HDN always gets his boys up for the rival game, and Smith is banged up. This will be the last year BP lets this happen (especially after he hears from the alumni)
I barack that i am wrong too-
Hogs 23
Ole Miss 31
It’s going to be a close game win or a blow out loss. I say close. 17-13 Arkansas.
This is going to be entertaining! I hope it is as fun as:
HOGS 34
Rebs 27
The team with Petrino the better coach, still needing talent: 18
The team with talent but no coach: 25
Rebs win despite their coach. A team that can run the ball against Arkansas has a great chance to win. Thus, the coach who only knows how to run the ball gets his only victory against Petrino in the next five years.
Rebs 38
Hogs 21
Smedlap has it right. Its about talent and we are still developing ours. I hope that I’m wrong. You throw out the last 5 minutes last week and we are playing decent football but who knows what shape we come back in from that meltdown.
Guinness,
The alumni need to shut it whether we win or lose. We have a good first year coach who has us heading in the right direction. We need to be patient as a fan base and unlike HDN, Petrino truly doesn’t give a crap what the alumni thinks so just keep it to yourself.
HOGS 31
Rebs 14
Houston Nutt will not walk off our field with a victory, karma dictates that just won’t happen. We have faced two pretty darn good defenses the last two week and literally shot our selves in the foot or else we would be 2-0. The Ole Miss defense is not nearly that salty and we all know half the stadium can call Nutt’s plays. Nutt loses then runs to the band and attempts to lead the fight song…. weird guy
…
Hogs 20
Nutt’n Honeys 30
Jr.
I would love to beat Nutt and I think we have a better coach but I’m not sure Karma sides with a fan base that flies signs over the stadium 3 weeks into the season call for the head of its coach.
It occurs to me that one should be careful using the words “Nutt” and “beat” in the same sentence.
I believe that the Hogs will win this one. Yes they had disappointing loss last week, but that’ll only make them that much stronger. The hogs get even more fire as they try to beat their old coach. In the end, they have more to play for and will play better as they keep improving.
Hogs 28
Ole Miss 17
Also Casey Dick will have another career day.
Running Rebs Route Razorbacks
42 Rebs
17 Razorbacks
Much as I hate to say this, all signs point to a win for Nutt. I’m sure that Ole Miss is a handcapper favorite. Those who think that Nutt will pound it out don’t realize that Ole Miss QB Jevon snead is very good. Look for Nutt to pass early to see if he can get away with it. If he gets a lead then, then he will sit on it. One problem with a running game, it uses clock and a passing team can gete back quickly (remember 21-20). Ole Miss 31 Hogs 17. If Petrino guesses right Hogs might win 21-20.
Without Michael Smith
24 - Ole Miss
10 - Hogs
With Michael Smith
24 - Hogs
17- Ole Miss
i believe we can score on anyone. (As long as we can catch the ball) our defense has improved and is getting better. Casey Dick needs to step up and distribute the ball DOWN FIELD in order for up to win with or without Michael Smith.
Casey, throw the ball AWAY sometimes. As already said, if we go turnover free, we will win. This is a much bigger rivalry for us than it is for the Ole Miss players. As we’ve seen before, emotion can sometimes take the place of experience.
“Once a Razorback, you’re always a Razorback”, until you’re a Rebel.: 24
HOGS: 34
Hogs 38
old piss 27
The Hogs and Petrino put it all together at the perfect time.
Ole Miss 35 Hogs 31 Turnover plagued game ensues, if Smith plays full-time full-speed it will be a game, and Hogs may win, Ole Miss WILL turn it over. Sad to see most reduce the game to Hogs vs. Nutt….. to paraphrase Coach Dale from Hoosiers… let’s talk about who we are instead of who we are not. Let’s also hope there are no classless stadium flyovers….. that stuff is bush-league and well beneath the dignity of the program Petrino is trying to establish.
This one is the one we have all been waiting for. Unfortunately we are still learning a new system and seems Ole Miss has Nutts simple system down pretty good.
The Man to Man defense that Ole Miss plays could bring back our passing game this week (Atleast it better). Unfortunately our defense still has alot to prove.
Much as I hate to lose gotta be realistic.
Ole Miss- 27
Hogs - 17
Even if I picked the wrong winner - I still win!!!!!
Arkansas: 20
Ole Miss: 27

I just can’t pick against the Hogs on this game. Hogs find a way to get a win over Houston and the Rebels.
Hogs: 27

Hogs 21
Rebs 13
Weird game.
Fighter - 24
Hogs - 14

Ole miss 27 Hogs 21
Nutt only gets people ready for the big games, and this is a big game. Hogs lose… Again.
I don’t see how we can be competitive when Ole Miss has either beat a team that clobbered us (Florida) and almost (should have) beat a team that clobbered us (Bama).
As much as I hate to see it, Ole Miss wins; and the only thing that keeps Nutt from running up the score is his loyalty to the kids he recruited and cared for - despite what our ‘fans’ think.
Ole Miss - 24
Hogs - 14
Every week I get closer and closer to winning the shirt. This is the one, baby! Me and the Hogs both get a win.
Hogs - 23
rebs - 20
HOGS 21
REBS 16
what irony…we beat em passing the ball…
New Coach of Hogs 27
Old Coach of Hogs 25
I’m not sure if the Hogs will play an all around game to best their old coach, but that is what I would like to see. Houston will pull some tricks out of his hat, but the Hogs should prevail.
Ark 31
Ole Miss 30
Wild game.
Hogs 35
Rebs 28
A lot of scoring bad defense on both sides.
Ark 20
Miss 26
A tough loss to Houston Dale.
I think the difference will be in the line play and Ole Miss has some studs on the DL
OM 27 Just wait til next year 22
