    Good, solid job Hogs.

Go back to the drawing board Gus the Guru, and take all your bogus stats and kool-ade drinkers with you. Tulsa, no matter how much success they've had is no SEC Caliber program. Some of these predictions were just mind-boggling.

Arkansas +7 was the lock of the day.

  2. BlindHog says:

Frank was right. The HUNH will not work in the SEC.

  3. Hog Fan 4 Life says:

THis game is a great example of how mid-level conferences are no match for the power conferences. While the Hogs played a good game, they are not a very good defensive team, yet they held Tulsa in check, and Casey destroyed them in the air.

I hope this shuts up some of those folks that keep crying about losing the Springdale kids and their mentor – your heralded QB is a third stringer and your OC/Asst Head coach is a star in a mid level conference. If you still 'drink the koolaide' be a fan of C-USA – I'm gonna stick with the elite big boys in the SEC and my man Petrino.

  4. BlindHog says:

I have no idea what this had to do with the Springdale kids. Damian is killiing at USC. I, personally, would love to have Mitch as a junior ahead of Casey right now.

C-USA is not the SEC, otherwise, I don't know what you mean.

But, you are right about Petrino. The jury is still out on Gus. Give him a few years to recruit. Clay almost beat us single handedly. But, we traded up for the Petrino Bros. over Dale and Gus.

  5. gary says:

I like my crow salty & well done. I surely didn't anticipate our special teams getting it done for us tonight!

  6. GonzoHog says:

Blind is right. This has nothing to do with the Springdale kids, or Gus's coaching ability for that matter.

    Tulsa's offensive credintials are a bit over-inflated.

Sure thier a good offense, but they don't have that many SEC quality players.

If you take Florida or Alabama's or even Ole Miss's front lines on both sides of the ball, and put them in a Tulsa uniform, then it's a completely different ballgame.

You can't run up big stats on weak Conference USA defenses, and then exspect to beat even a mediocra SEC defense on thier home field.

  7. GonzoHog says:

    Hey Gary,

Isn't it nice to see Tejada back to form?

I've been waiting patiently, but was starting to wonder.

  8. GonzoHog says:

Last I heard, Mitch was back to 2nd string again.

I don't think he was ever exspected to over-take Sanchez in his first year anyway, considering Sanchez was already as good as Mitch out of HS, plus he never had to transfer clear across the country, losing a full year of playing time because of lack of coaching.

Not much of an arguement there as far as i'm concerned.

  9. Okie Hog says:

Congrats to the Hogs!!!! Never been so happy to have been wrong on my prediction!!! I knew better than to drink that stupid koolaid!!!!

  10. reasonrules says:

As good as I have seen Special Teams in a long time.

Congrats to 24 Isaac Madison for a big improvement over last week.

I won't jump on the bandwagon to poo poo Tulsa. They were ranked 18th and I thought they played that well. They made many mistakes to help us out.

  11. Ward_Hog says:

Good win Hogs!!! Say what you will about this prediction, but this team will get enough wins to get a bowl invite. I say we beat M. State and LSU is totally beatable by our Hogs. This season has been so fun to watch. We are learning from our mistakes and that is what is most important this season (and possibly next). I love this coaching staff so far! Go Hogs Go!!!

  12. OwassoHog says:

Great game… lots of excitement! I was disappointed to get off to a 17 point lead but then have to hang on to win the game. My hat's off to Tulsa as they played good enough to win. In fact, they probably lead in most stats for the game. We could have easily put this game away much earlier but we couldn't. Shame on us! Need to focus on SC and play our best game yet to get this road victory. Good luck, Hogs.

  13. Stephen says:

I was glad to see our D backs playing the ball yesterday. They made some interceptions from it. If we'd done that against Ole Miss, I think we'd won. But I'm glad to see the adjustment.

  14. Jimdog says:

It’s beginning to look like a Florida-Alabama matchup in the SEC championship game but there is another possible contest that would be very much of interest to Hog fans. That is, SEC Coach of the Year. If Arkansas can win its last three games it would give them a 7-5 record, which considering all things, would be remarkable. The Tulsa game and the closeness of its last two losses gives the Razorback Nation hope. South Carolina, Mississippi State, and LSU look doable, improbable but doable, since they (unless LSU does a turnaround) are not amongst the SEC elites this year. Hope springs eternal. Even a 6-6 record would recommend Petrino for the award. However, Houston Nutt may get it if his squad can run out the string. Even a loss to LSU would not matter since Nutt has only to beat La-Monroe and Mississippi State for a 7-5 record which would give him the edge considering that one of his wins was over the probable SEC champion or runner up. It would also be a vast improvement over the previous year’s record. Odds favor Nutt at the moment. That Petrino has an outside chance is a sweet irony because of the complex conflict between the two schools regarding coaching changes. Vanderbilt’s coach was a lock for the award until his team’s recent collapse. Losing to Duke will be unforgivable to SEC big wigs. Either Ole Miss or the Hogs elevating themselves from the cellar when that’s where the prognosticators put them at the beginning of the season would be a triumph for both coaches. (Note that Miss. State and LSU are the key games for both Nutt and Petrino).

A major BCS controversy is on the way. Herbstreit last week said that if Penn State wins out and is undefeated then the Joe Paterno factor will kick in. That is sympathy for the old coach to go to the championship game. If that is the case and that is the determining factor then there will be an explosion from one of two other conferences, and perhaps from USC. The reason is that only one other opponent will be chosen from those three. Now it is universally accepted that the strongest Conference in the country is the Big 12 South, (Mizzou and Kansas in the North are also good, but no match the big four of OSU, OU, Texas and T Tech*). Herbstreit, in his opinion, said he did not see Texas or T Tech going undefeated. The second ranked conference is the SEC and Herbstreit said he didn’t see Alabama going undefeated either. Well, one little piggy went down on Saturday and the others might follow. The way Florida has played the last two weeks it’s favored to go all the way. And it will still have a defeat on its record. If that occurs, then a representative of one of the two strongest conferences will not play in the championship game. Given the weakness of the Big Ten and the poor performance of Ohio State in the last two championship games, the idea of going on charity seems like affirmative action for old, venerated coaches. Penn State has only two games left and the only potential pitfall is a slightly above average Michigan State team, and they’re playing that game at PSU. Look for an all out blitz from the media and PSU promoting Joe Pa to get into the game if they win out. But who will be the opponent? And who will be boiling mad?

*On a Sunday Pro football panel, which included old Razorbacks Barry Switzer and Jimmie Johnson, discussing the new BCS standings, the consensus was that any of those four teams would beat PSU.

  15. GonzoHog says:

    Jimdog,

The national championship has pretty much been a joke for several years running now.

There really isn't much debate left that the polls system doens't work anymore, but continues to operate the same for the sake of big money.

In all fairness, if the bowl officials, thier sponsers, universities and television networks didn't have thier hand so deep in the cookie jar,a playoff system surely would've occured many years ago.

Staying with the current system makes about as much since as a global econemy.

Big corporations continue to ship all of our jobs over seas, because of the greed for cheap labor, but fail to see, or just don't care, that it's killing our own people.

Exscuses will always be made in the name of greed.

  16. soupd says:

Gonzo, please stick to football….I've got news for you – we are in a global economy and have been for a long time (as evidenced by the instability of global markets over the past few months).

Your comment about shipping jobs overseas (and this happens across big and small companies BTW) shows a very small minded view. Most folks that don't think for themselves (AKA 'liberals' or 'Democrats') think it's about getting cheap labor, but don't dig into the cause of this need. There many reasons why this occurs, but here are a couple for you to consider:

    1. Business are forced to do this to lower costs and compete in the market. This is due to higher costs of doing business i.e higher taxes, surcharges, compliance to oversight, etc. Also, it is appropriate to note that the costs of doing business will be much higher if Obama is elected and begins to tax those people and business making more than 200K. Guess what…most of the businesses in that tax bracket will most likely have to significantly raise their prices for services or go out of business due to the impact of higher taxes and costs

    2. Productivity of workers. Many (but not all) US workers are unproductive and have a sense of entitlement. All things being equal, would you rather have a worker eager to show up to work and do a good job, or one that needs constant management and has a poor work product. Before you choose, what if someone said that you could get a high productive worker at lower cost? What would you do?

I'm not for sending jobs overseas, but I understand why it happens. The way to keep jobs here in america is to lessen workers' sense of entitlement to drive productivity and lower the cost of doing business (i.e taxes) to provide job growth and opportunity.

    It's Economics 101

    Go Hogs!

  17. Jimdog says:

I agree with Gonzo about why the present bowl system exixts. It's about money and exposure. but a championship playoff would not be to the likiing of most schools. Plus the math doesn't add up for a playoff series. At the present time there are 27 bowls, Therefore, 54 places for 128 NCAA-1 teams. Almost half the teams can go to a bowl, theoretically. The schools like that. At the moment there are 40 bowl eligible teams with 18 on the cusp with 5 victories. Coaches and schools would not want to give up bowl games they can use for both money and an extra game, as well as the extra TV exposure for recruiting. Conversely, if the NCAA went to a playoff similar to basketball it would take 5 weeks to complete after the regular season, unless you played two games a week. They would have to start the season in early August or finish in late February. It would also mean that some college teams would play more games than the pros. There's too much to like about the present system for the powers that be to change it for sportswriters and obtuse fans. One thing that would improve the computer assessments of performance would be more interleague play amongsr the biggies, but they all want the cupcakes to help get them into a bowl. Another way to improve the system would be to make it mandatory for a league to have a playoff either within itself or with another league. Also, let's cut the crap about syle points not being counted. Of course they are, especially with the polls. Comparaive scores should be acounted for in the computer assessment (which is probably done anyway).

I don't want to get into politics here but i agree with Soupd. I have just spent four months in Northern Ohio. You can stretch an arc from Akron all the way to Flint, Michigan that are our most economically depressed areas. The four horsemen of economic apocalypse run wild there. The horesmen are much too powerful unions, a media that is anti-business, Democrat politicians who can't control crime and "milk' the system, and even the greenies who live in fantasy land regarding wind and solar power.as the solution for Ohio and Michigan industries You can add to that academics who are virulently anti-businee and anti-corporation, not understanding that the latter produce jobs. There is a strange sense of entitlement with workers and the eggheads who are convinced that jobs are just there to fulfill their needs; No, business is there to make a profit, and if they can't make a profit, tthen they're outa there; end of arguement. Ohio has not only lost jobs to the Chinese but also to Tennessee and Kentucky. What business in their right mind, that doesn't have to locate in Ohio or Michigan, would want to locate or stay there? I feel sorry for Northern Ohio working class people because they are wonderful, wonderful folks. I really enjoy being with them. But thanks to the four (or five) horsemen they don't understand the whats and the whys of what has happeded to them. Last comment I will make regarding politics. Promise.

  18. Arkansas finally played SEC football and they won a game against a ranked opponent.

  19. HogHead says:

Good win, good effort, fewer mistakes and I'm still seeing improvement. If we can learn to finish a few more drives and get a few people healthy, we've still got a legitimate shot at a bowl game. Go Hogs

  20. reasonrules says:

I just turned off CNN to read some football. Wassup. Come on where is the monitor to delete the non football posts???????????

  21. GonzoHog says:

    soupd,

I was talking about football, although I used about 3 sentences in reference to politics as an example.

Look buddy, if you want to talk politics, fine. But don't confuse my comments as a Democratic/Republican debate.

If you want to vote republican, that's fine, that's your right. But it doesn't change my mind or my comment.

By the way, thanks for advising me to stick to football, while going on a political rant several paragraphs long. I'll try to do better next time.

  22. reasonrules says:

Wow, I am back in the fifth grade.
