This is the best i've seen the Big 12 in a long time.
I would honestly have to rate them better than the SEC this year.
Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma St. are all legitamate enough to be top 5 teams, while even though Missouri hasn't exacly had the season they had hoped for, they are still a very dangerous team.
Kansas and Kansas St. can give anyone fits and Baylor isn't exactly a team you can sneeze at anymore either.
Nebraska, Texas A&M, Colorado and Iowa St. are the week sisters of the conference.
Alabama is #1 in the polls now, but something about them makes me wonder if their really that good.
Florida seems to be the red hot team of the SEC right now, by the way they spanked a very talented Georgia team. (as 'Bama did)
Other than those two teams at the top, it seems like the SEC is just one big ? this year.
It will all be settled soon enough but, I thought Texas Tech's performance the other night over an excellent Texas team should have placed it ahead of the one loss teams. We shall see.
Gonzo: This week will reveal how strong Alabama is or how weak LSU is. If it's the latter than we have hope at Little Rock. If LSU is better than it showed against Georgia then we had better win at South Carolina and MSU if there is to be a bowl. game. I think that Tulsa will sneak back into the polls, at the bottom perhaps, if the Hogs can win all three of its last games or at least two. If so, then Arkansas, without a doubt, must have the strongest scheduale in the country. .
Blind: I agree with you. T. Tech should have been number one. But, for the pollsters, OSU and UO are the markers to show that the Raiders are not one hit wonder.
Until I stumble upon a Big 12 team that plays defense I refuse to believe they should be considered for the National Championship game. I think T.Tech will have more of a problem with OSU than OU, as IMO OU is one of the most over-rated teams in the country. They can score at will, but their defense is very, very suspect. Everyone is talking the Big 12 up right now, but at the end of the day the SEC will go 2-0 in BCS bowls… again, OU will somehow get in the BCS and lose…. again, the BIG 10 rep in the BCS will get owned… again, and USC will talk about how the PAC-10 really is a tough conference… again
Saban will own LSU this week, they are ranked based on name this year, typical good D, but no QB
Texas beats OU by ten on a neutral field and they're four spots beneath the Sooners? I hate the Longhorns as much as the next Hog fan, but that ain't right.
Secrectly I am rooting for Bama to run the table but it won't happen…………..unless something crazy happens Penn State vs. (take your pick) will be in the National title game. Let's see, T Tech will lose to either OK ST or OK. Bama loses to LSU or Florida in the SEC championship game. Now what? The great debate on Florida or USC. Whose loss was greater? If Ole miss and Oregon ST line up who wins? Oh that's right, Florida played in a CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME, ripping Penn State to shreds in another over rated over hyped national title game. {OTHER BOWLS} Could possible see a rematch of TEXAS VS. USC (great game). BAMA vs. OK (great game). T Tech VS. FSU (ummmm)………………that's just my two cents!!!
Here's a good one for you…what if OU and Texas win out. Oklahoma could be ranked #1, but Texas would represent the South in the Big 12 in the Championship game !!!
If there ever was a year that spurred the presidents to a playoff, this might be the year. Instead of just 1 or 2 teams complaining, you may have 5 or 6 with legit beefs.
What a mess.
Sunshine
Sunshine,
Every year, it seems the BCS mess gets worse and worse.
Playoffs always get mentioned as the cure, but knowone knows how to go about setting them up.
I have heard a few people mention that we shouldn't have pre-season polls, which basically have a big impact on how the teams in the polls go up and down throughout the rest of the year.
I agree with that assesment, but if the pre-season polls were done away with, were would they eventually come in? after the 3rd game? the 4th? mid season?
And if so, how would a playoff system be set up to follow that new procedure?
Big mess with a lot to figure out, but something definately needs to be done.
I don't believe a perfect solution will ever exist, but there's got to be a better way to determine a national champ, compared to the one we've got now.
