I got to watch my first televised Hog game last night, and I have to say, I really enjoyed watching our new kids, but also enjoyed watching our veteran players as well.
Stephan Welsh seems to be playing more under control, and really seems to understand his role on this team as a leader. I would have to say the same for Washington, and Britt is playing with a little more confidence than he was last year.
R. Clarke is the real deal when it comes to shooting the basketball, and even though C. Fortson gets a little ahead of himself at times, as all Fresh. do, he’s the real deal too, as a true PG.
That hard bank he did off the backboard to assist Jason Henry on a dunk was off the charts, just as long as he doesn’t start thinking he can do that at any time, in any game, I have no problem with it.
Speaking of J. Henry, what a big game this was for him. I knew he was supposed to be multi-talented, but wow! Pelphrey seems to think that he’s only scratching the surface of his potential, so if he can keep his focus on all the right things he should be doing, the sky’s going to be the limit for this kid.
He does a little bit of everything, which was shown last night. Dribble, pass, shoot the 3, sky high for a dunk and rebound. No wonder Pelphrey said he’s capable of playing 3 positions very well.
If there’s one word out there to describe M. Sanchez, it would have to be “hustle”.
This kid has a warrior mentality, and is a good fit for this team inside, especially with Fortson being able to utilize that kind of hustle, by rewarding him with the ball.
If every player on this team (including Montrell McDonald) buys into the system, with Fortson leading the charge, how in the world could they not be really good in another year or two?
