Before all the mumbling and grumbling starts to kick in, has anyone besides myself noticed that for a team with no exsperience or depth, we've fought two of the league's best team in back to back games now, only to lose by 3 and 4 points, with last nights game being on the road in OT.
I realize that some peoples minds work in a black-n-white mode, 24-7, exspecting nothing but a W, but I'm actually pretty darn proud of the way this team fights with the passion of their coach.
I can remember vividly the team we put on the court the past few years, just giving up completely not 5 minutes into the 2nd half. Does anyone remember that? (Stan Heath era) Those teams were supposed to be pretty good too weren't they? weren't they?
All in all, I think we should be proud of all these kids for not quitting.
Our coach must be doing something right. With the situation this team is in, having to rebuild with only 8 players on the roster, I think that pretty much speaks for itself.
The future looks bright with the way these kids are improving. The wins aren't always everything in a rebuilding year.
GO HOGS GO!!!!!
Fortson = 10 turnovers = loss. Amazing we made it to overtime.
I agree Gonzo, great post. With the losses piling up, it would be easy for these youngsters to give up. The opposite is happening – they are fighting every game, and experience will help these kids close out games.
I wish folks wouldn't be so hard on Fortson's performance after every game. He's a freshman folks – the SEC is a long way from high school. I think he's doing an admirable job given the circumstances. I haven't done the research, but is there any other freshman point guard in the country (that plays the minutes) that has better stats than Fortson? I just hope he can get his attitude in check and continue to be coachable.
soupd, I hope you are right as hope is about all we have today. I do know that if I were Pel, Courtney would put me over the edge. So, Courtney and I are both glad that I am not the coach.
I'm glad too for, if you were the coach, we'd be in the middle of an all-new 'Coach Hunt' at the end of the season if not sooner. I'm very happy with the one we have. ;^)
Few more athletes like Henry and a center and we will be competing. Tells you what kind of talent was left when at this point of the season some of our freshmen are outplaying our juniors.
Soupd,
Thanks. Its easy to forget the Fortson is freshman. I agree with Gonzo, we're not far off considering all of the changes. I think Jason Henry may be the key going forward. Go Hogs!
T-towner, a good coach with integrity doesn't give up on his kids. he works with them, disciplines them and helps make them a better man (and ball player). It takes a lot of balls to suspend one of your key players before the Kentucky game, but it also says alot when after the discipline you support them and give them confidence to go forward. So yeah, I guess we're lucky you're not the coach
