We recently threw our support behind fellow blogger Brandon Marcello and his campaign to get Bobby Petrino posting on Twitter.
The Expats did as well, although they expressed some of the concerns we’ve had about how Petrino might end up sounding a little boring when compared to @PeteCarroll or @UKCoachCalipari.
The dirty little secret, of course, is that many personalities on Twitter (actors, coaches, etc.) aren’t putting “tweets” out there themselves. They’re letting someone else do it under their name. Mark Richt has even admitted that an athletic department employee updates his feed.
And here’s a warning to the Razorback athletic department: don’t give a lackey assistant on his first day on the job the password to Petrino’s Twitter account. That’s apparently what happened over at Tennessee yesterday and NCAA secondary violations insued:
“It’s a beautiful day in Knoxville, Tennessee today. I was so exited [sic] to hear that J.C. Copeland committed to play for the Vols today!”
Nice. They’ve certainly been keeping the UT Compliance Department “exited” lately over there in “beautiful” Knoxville, huh?
If @bobbypetrino does decide to start using Twitter to communicate with fans and recruits, let’s hope Jeff Long and the folks in the Broyles Center let him update it himself. Otherwise, he’s not going be worth adding to our “follow” list.

Is this what we have come to? We finally get rid of Dale and Frank and get a real old school ball coach and we want to know his every thought? Twitter? At least it is well named.
These guys are good. They will figure out how to use this to their advantage. Not to worry.
I agree with Blind. I have little worry when it comes to these goes being competitive in recruiting. I trust that they are good at evaluating talent and putting together/executing a strategy for bringing in big time talent. I follow recruiting less now than I did because I just feel like its pretty well handled, never mind what happens when we start winning.
Funny post over at FanHouse by Clay Travis:
Lane Kiffin Commits Recruiting Violation On Twitter, Universe Explodes
Clay Travis hit the nail right on the head, Tipster.
Twitter has to be one of the most useless instruments a college coach could have attached to his name, especially when a secondary person (staff member) is posting under his name? Ummm…. yeah, ok.
I really can’t see Bobby Petrino tying himself up with such a device.
A man that’s personality screams “all business” isn’t likely to waste his time worrying about having a dayly, or even weekly twitter post.
Oh, by the way, the staff member that posted the secondary NCAA rules violation at Tennessee has been fired. As far as i’m concerned, the wrong coach was let go.
Too much more of this kind of non-sense though, and I figure Lane Kiffin will be on his way out after his first season. He’ll be very lucky if he see’s two.
Tennesse officials, at the moment, are playing down the attention Kiffin has brought to the university, trying to say that it’s been beneficial to the program’s recruiting.
That, absolutely, has to be the lamest PR bulls**t I have ever heard. Talk about living in denial.
I bet if the truth be known, Kiffin is a living nightmare from hell for university officials tyring to play down all of this so-called positive attention.
These “niTwits” are stating to make even Auburn look good.
