Previously when we played LSU Keukel handled them in the first game of the double header. Then Eibner was shelled. Last night for the first time I hear the stat that LSU is something like 33-3 against Right handed pitchers and 18-13 against left handed pitchers. What did we do? Start the right handed pitcher that got shelled the last time. Was Smyley not available? Was someone who can throw left handed not available. Now I know the main excuse for throwing Eibner is that he is our second day starter but based on past outings and the fact that LSU hammered RHP you have to do something. What is the worst that could have happened? We lose by 8? I mean come on, this is the CWS try something to survive. Don't even get me started on pinch hitting House with the bases loaded.
I was scratching my head as well, Hank.
But then again, Dave Van Horn has made some great calls lately.
I guess this just wasn't his day either.
This seems to have been the perfect day for a guy like Smyley to shine again.
Lord knows he has to have a ton of confidence after almost shutting out OU in Norman a couple of weeks back.
I wonder what the reasoning was behind starting Eibner?
From the RazorBloggers Twitter feed:
Our recommendation for Coach Van Horn: start Bolsinger on Wed and then LHP Keuchel on Fri and LHP Smyly on Sat against LSU
I wish Florida had made it and LSU had lost out.
