Well, I thought our offense was for real. Although it could become even better. Childs was awesome. Running game was pathetic. Over a thousand yards offense in this game between both teams.
I still don't have a good feel for what this defensive coordinator can do with this defense. It seemed that Georgia could throw at will but chose to establish their run. If they hadn't had two turnovers in the first quarter, they may have scored in the 60's.
Special teams was a little better, but not great.
Congrats to Mallet and Childs and the rest of the offense.
Our secondary was horrible. How can receivers get behind our d backs over and over again? I choose to think it's poor play calling where our D backs were not put in a position to make a play. It's a shame, cause the D line did pretty well and our offense was out of sight. Hopefully our secondary will improve – we'd be better off playing a prevent defense.
Can you spell Arkansas Razorbacks with a D? No but Bama will DOMINATE the hogs!!!
Soupd you are completely right on Cox's five Touchdown passes on only one was there actually any coverage and that was the jump ball thrown to A.J. Green over Ramon Broadway. Our secondary is awful!!!
Are you referring to the one where A.J. pushed off Ramon but the refs didn't call it? Poorly officiated game but that's not why we lost.
I'm not sure but it was the only TD pass tha wasnt a comnplete busted coverage and the wide reciever was wide open
We are defenseless—–a no contest plea in court will suffice. AND, I hate the ribbon boards. This is supposed to enhance our experience?
Amen to the ribbon boards… this had better be listed as the FIRST UGLY by the RazorBlogger review!
Can you say YUCK! I'm going to call them tomorrow and voice my opinion. It was about 90% ads! It didn't enhance my experience at all… in fact, it was definitely a negative.
Any news on whether the A&M game will be televised or not. Seems like it would be. Just another chance for Jerry to show off his new stadium
It will definitely be televised. Details (including the actual game time) should be released on Monday by SEC and networks.
thanks tipster
It's going to be on ESPN2…
6:30 PM kickoff on ESPN2.
You can't build a defense in the weight room or on the practice field; you have to do it on the recruiting trail. We have running backs and recievers we can't play but only one middle linebacker??
I love Bobby but, you've got to recruit both sides of the ball. This is the SEC.
Did we not just land the best secondary recruiting class in the nation? (Leon, Crim, Gordon, Wiston…) The problem isn't the recruiting… it's the recruits… they're on the bench and not on the field. Why? That's the better question…
I think it's the scheme guys. Watch the replay and look where the guys are lining up – if you call a bad play it doesn't matter how good your athletes are..as a coach you have to put your players in a position to make a play. It's like calling for a run when there are 10 players in the box vs calling a quick pass.
And, with all of these running backs, we need to play enough ball control to leave a bad defense on the sideline. With our defense, offense needs to do more than just score.
Defense was awful and I hope we are done for a while with the Broderick Green goal-line project. I can't wait to see the Good, Bad & Ugly report.
While I'm griping the revamped sound system at RRS gets a D in my mind since it was overwhelmingly loud. And I can't believe that we still don't know how to consistently format video for the Pig Screen after 10 years with the dang thing.
Can someone conact SECsports and ask them why the Arkansas / Georgia game is about the only SEC game not posted for video replay? They've got Auburn/WV complete video replay up twice and every other SEC team posted from week 3's action. Being in Europe, it my Sunday form of going to church. Thx
ROLL TIDE ROLL!!! The Tide will smoke the hogs for some great bar-b-que come 6pm on Saturday night!!!
Not much to complain about really. I think we pretty much got what we should have expected.
Everyone already knew we were rebuilding the football program, so what did we think our first look at real competition was going to look like? A NC team?
Look at it like this, what would last years team have looked like against this same Georgia team? I say the score would have resembled something to the tune of last season's Florida game. Didn't we lose that one after battling a penalty-ridden Gator squad tough for 3 qrs? Wasn't that score 38-7?
I think we've come a long way folks. We're just not all the way there yet.
There's a reason why most people picked us to win between 7 and 8 games this season. Didn't we see that last night?
Win or lose, let's be objective and hope we can improve on some of the mistakes we commited in our first real test.
Personally, I think if we could just clear up our penaltys with the O-line, and get just a tad bit better at run-defense, that would take us a long way towards our goal.
tidefan,
Don't over-react and get too confident just yet. Arkansas will improve, but they still have a few adjustments they need to make.
Alabama is good, no doubt about it, but Cox to A.J. Green is a little more dangerous right now than McElroy to J. Jones. Also, Georgia's O-line is just a little bit better than 'Bama's right now, so don't go bragging on yourselves just yet.
The biggest reason why the Tide are so good is because of their defense and STs.
I'm not too sure we can slow down Arenas, but i'm not that sure the 'Bama defense can slow down the powerful passing game of the Hogs either.
Arkansas's offense will definately be the biggest test for the Alabama defense thus far, hands down.
GO HOGS GO, BABY!!!!!
I agree Gonzo…BUT our defensive players are more talented than what they are showing. I watched the game again today, and I'm 100% sure the issue is with the defensive play calling, sorry Willy lovers, it's time for him to go. In many passing situations, we had 6 guys in 3 point stance on the line (outside linebackers), then at the snap the backers would drop back in pass coverage rather than rush the QB. Guess what that means? Yep, those guys are already 2 steps behind the recievers/tight ends. That's why those big plays occurred down the middle. I give Richt credit, he saw it and took advantage of it, but Willy kept running the same defense.
With the exception of the 80 yard run, our D line played well. If we'd keep the linebackers in position where they can make some pass coverage plays we'll be in good shape. I think our corners played well considering GA's talent on the outside – most of the big plays were over the middle.
This defensive problem has to be driving Petrino nuts. I have to think we'll make some solid adjustments before next week.
The GREAT news is that we finally have huge talent at QB and recivers. Childs was amazing last night and Mallet is an NFL arm for sure. Fixing our running game will be fairly easy – that's a lot easier to fix than a passing game.
It's a shame folks built this game up as a season killer for the Hogs. There is a lot of football to play, and don't forget we were in this game all the way; it wasn't a blowout like last year's games. It's evident the players are improved on defense, now if we can just get some good coaching there we'll be fine.
No love lost for Willy, but BP's first choice at DC (current SC DC) didn't do much better last week against Georgia.
Didn't say he was a good choice either.
I think losing Franklin in the 1st Quarter was devastating. Our LB depth was already weak to begin with and his actions cost us tremendously. With that being said, why does #39 still play. Every highlight seems to have him running for his life trying to catch up with whoever burnt him. Just saying.
#39 is Matt Harris… led the team in solo tackles (5)… and tied for total tackles with Wendal Davis (8).
Matt Harris with all due respect is not an SEC defender… On the INT he was so far out of position that Cox didn't even think about the Thomas coming in from the far side of the field. As long as Harris is in the game… we're in trouble. Come on Anthony Leon, Gordon and Winston!!!!!!!! Get your heads into the playbooks… watch the film…. perform in practice and GET INTO THE GAME and help YOUR team out!!!
Hats off to a great Ark team. the qb Mallet by far has the best looking arm in the SEC. Dawgs were lucky to come out with a win. As one blogger stated above. In the SEC you have to have some defensive recruiting as well. Petrino is a good coach and give him time and i'm sure he'll come up with a good defense. UGA defense gave up just as much total yards if not more, so we are fortunate to come up with the win.
