Holy freakin cow! 51 points, are you kiddin me?
This, combined with the solid PG play of Nobles and our other newcomers, proves to me we’re going to be a much improved basketball team this season.
We now have more offensive and defensive players inside and out on this squad.
Now, if we can only get C. Fortson to pull his head out, and get G. Bryant back on the floor to gain some experience, we should be ok.
I’m so ready for S. Welsh to graduate, it ain’t even funny. He does way more harm than good for this team.
One thing you notice watching last night’s game…without Fortson in there, there is a noticable increase in the “sharing of the basketball” mentality.
With Fortson, its always a 1-on-1 affair…if I can beat you off the dribble and take you all the way to the basket, I’ll score, get fouled, or as a last resort – pass. Everyone tends to stand and watch, because they know what’s going to happen.
Last night was different. Nobles did a good job (9 assists, 2 turnovers) of keeping everyone (especially Rotnei) involved. I like what I saw from him at the point. Strong with the ball, quick, good hands on defense. He’s a keeper.
Let's not get carried away here. Alcorn State is terrible. But 130 points is still pretty good if you are shooting by yourself in the gym.
This certainly makes me feel better than the Razorbloggers predictions before the game. The above comments about Fortson are spot on. Courtney seems a smart enough guy that maybe he can see it himself. Well, come on! Can't I hope?
I played guard in college and one of the first things I noticed abour Fortson is that he either is not a good passer or he is envious? His passes, especially to Clarke, seem to be off target or late. A great leader is one that gets the whole team involved in the play. Fortson is simply a gifted but selfish player.
Right on about Fortson and Welsh! Fortson has no interest in whats best for the team!Guy could average 15 or 20 assists a game if he had any interest in being a true point guard. Scorers all around him and he's driving to the hole with his head down! But don't worry, he and Welsh will be back next semester to bring us back to selfish basketball!
