prediction: all players on suspension play the next game to try to get a win. If pelphry can’t beat the cupcakes and we can’t pull more than 2500 fans, Long will have to get rid of him to shake things up….maybe before the year is over.

don’t get me wrong, I think Pelphrey is the one to get the program back on track; but there is no time to be patient – Long can’t afford for the program to run into the ground this year without some sort of action.

I’m in total agreement here. I feel like we’re in re-build mode again and my thought is that this year is already gone and if something doesn’t happen soon from the higher ups, then our recruiting class of 2011 will be in some serious jeopardy.

This is sad times. Sure we’re only 6 games into the season, but I haven’t witnessed anything to really rally behind.

It really is almost embaressing to watch the hogs basketball team. Michael Washington, everytime I’ve seen him its like he has very little interest in being there and doesnt really want to play. and i understand that we still have alot of people out but still these guys we do have were recruited to play D1 basketball and i dont think we could beat a high school team. I know John Pelphrey is all about morals and everything, but he’s not being paid to be a parents, he’s there to get WINS…..and if he doesnt figure something out like really quick, he may be gone before the seasons even over.

Cupcakes? The Hogs look like the cupcake now. This is rebuilding?

  5. reasonrules says:

Since Pel has been here, have any of his assistants moved on to bigger and better things or is he still surrounded by everybody he came with besides Rob Evans?

  6. Swineherd says:

Reasonrules: Don’t know about the assistants, but all those players who left are probably feeling vindicated right about now.

BTW: Hogs better buy some life insurance before they leave for Oklahoma.

  7. Grim Reaper Hog says:

Pelphry should have been fired yesterday. Period. Let Rob Evans finish out the season. I’m tired of excuses. A once proud program is in shambles. All of the Pelphry Apologists can stir the pity pot all day long and trot out the million and one excuses for what has happened to the program, but it doesn’t change the fact that we do not have a quality basketball team or coaching staff. Laughing stock. We’re the jokes of not only the SEC, but every mid major team in America. Fire Pelphry today.

  8. GolfHog says:

It’s no fun to pick on Pel anymore. It’s too pitiful for that.

I don’t care what they do. I don’t think it matters until one of these recruiting classes stays on campus long enough to put a foundation under this basketball team.

But, please, this is going to go on for a while. I wish Pel would man up and stop the whining. He looks like a 16 year old keek begging for a prom date.

It’s done now. If he needs to run some more kids off, play with 6 and not win a game, do it, but lets move on to something that makes sense and describe it as such. Now, it looks like Dudley Do-Right for a few days and then back to Hell’s Angels. And, yes, Free Michael Washington and let him go to Europe. If he doesn’t want to play any more than that he is not helping his NBA chances.

  9. BLP says:

The program is MUCH worse off than when Stan Heath was fired. Pel is probably a nice guy, but I don’t think he can coach his way out of a wet paper bag.

He certainly has displayed ZERO knowledge of how to build a program. Recruiting kids that have to be run off completely from the team!!?? Replacing those guys with skinny guys that are average athletes at best!!?? Suspend anyone and everyone who ever farted in the locker room!!??

It is a sad, sad day to be a Razorback (basketball fan). Letting (rent a win) teams come into Bud Walton arena and have their way with the ARKANSAS RAZORBACKS!!!!?????? Pel has driven a tradition rich and proud program into the outhouse. Sadly there is nobody else to blame. These guys are no more prepared to play division one basketball than a high school team. I just don’t think Pel has any clue about what he is doing. He might be a really good assistant coach for someone, but he doesn’t look worth a flip as a head coach.

  10. Swineherd says:

I tried to make this point at the beginning of the season: The main problem with this program lies with the administration. They are the ones who hire and fire and write the checks. They are the ones who let the situation get out of hand, to the point they were grabbing at straws to save the program. Pelphrey was a middling coach in a middling league before he came to Arkansas. Why the administration thought he could win in a top-tier program is a question perhaps only they could answer. They might have thought there was something in his character that was worth a gamble. There was some kind of dog whistle that the rest of us could not hear.

Fans: The administration tries to downplay the importance of fan-response in their decision-making, but the truth is that in a program like the Razorbacks the fans are ultra-important and their opinions matter. The fans pay the bills. You can bet that the most important stat in the loss to So. AL was the 5100 (estimated) fans in The Bud.

Bloggers: I’ve heard coaches tell players not to read the blogs. IMO the bloggers are the best fans. They are sometimes rabid, radical fans, but they truly want what is good for the teams and the program, for the Hogs and for Arkansas. And they are knowledgable fans. I would say to the bloggers: keep speaking your mind. Your opinions count more than most. I believe the blogs are more widely read than the administration acknowledges.

    Enough. Unload Pel now.

  12. reasonrules says:

Hey in a couple of weeks Mike Anderson is in Central Arkansas for the kickoff luncheon. Lets kidnap him and declare him Coach. ;)

  13. Resume Writer Hog says:

Fire Pelphry TODAY! Give the job of finishing the season to Rob Evans at a bargain basement assistant’s salary then open up the checkbook, hire a proven winner and pay him whatever it takes. Otherwise, turn Bud Walton into a shopping mall and start playing to half empty crowds in Barnhill arena.

  14. GonzoHog says:

I’ve been one of the more patient fans of Pel for quite some time now, but as i’ve witnesses those last 3 ball games against teams an Arkansas basketball program should be beating, i’m seriously wondering about his ability to coach on this level.
I really didn’t worry about it all that much after losing big to Louisville.
You could even see there were times in that game where we actually looked pretty good, especially at the beginning of the 2nd half, where we scored the first 14 points, cutting the lead to just 3 points.
Recently though, we’ve gotten back G. Bryant, S. Welsh and Micheal Sanchez, and it looks like we’ve actually gotten worse.
It’s starting to seem like we have a head coach who’s incapable of coaching up a defense. For whatever reason, we can’t seem to stop anyone.
Now, here we are looking to go into the Loyd Noble Center and take on OU?
I’m not sure I can even bear to watch.
    These are sad times folks.
